Hello I have 2 3600 appliances in my company. Both in different sites. We are backing up servers locally to each and duplicating jobs between both devices. One of the servers is also licensed with the enterprise server option (CASO). My problem is that my appliance running the CASO license has fallen over and died. The other appliance is running fine , however all the backupexec services have stopped on it and we cannot connected to it. How can I move my enterprise server option license to this MMS server and start recovering/backing up again ? Regards F1.4KViews3likes14CommentsAbout shrinking the catalogs
Hi all, For my 3600 appliance, I've been backing up the catalogs (D:\BackupExec\Catalogs) regularly by burning the whole folder into a DVD. For a pretty long while since use, it's been good and remained at around 3.5 GB. However, in the last month, it's grown substantially and reached 4.9GB now. Any reason why it has expanded so much? Is there a way to shrink it so that I can burn it into a single disc successfully? Thanks, JoeSolved1.1KViews1like4CommentsDuplicate to tape "Rule Blocked"
I setup my 3600 to backup a server full / Incrim for a few months just to dedupe locally now a tape is being required so I installed a quantum ulta 5 half height tape library. (no updates available on the 3600 I am on 2012 SP4 with all the latest hotfix's) Ensured it is on the latest FW, did a full diagnostic via quantums propriertery software, ensured the hba was also on its latest firmware/driver ( I did this after when troubleshooting). Connected the tape drive and installed it via adding a tape drive in storage and used the symantec drivers. I then proceeded to modify the rule for the server I am backing up to dupelicate to tape and with all backups selected, then with most recent full backup to which I got a running job then back to scheduled with nothing else I tried a one off backup job and it worked.... I then created a new job with the same settings and deleted the old job I now get a rule blocked. I then proceeded to disable/hold every other job and clean out every old job, recoverys etc.... and tried it again still rule blocked I then changed the full backup to yearly removed inc and the tape to yearly and set it 6 months apart still rule blocked. to note I am trying to backup lotus DB only not exchange and I only have 2GB lleft on dedupe/disks I am at my 500gb reserve, so no new disk backups can occur I have also disabled all error handling rules and enabled logging to the maximum and couldnt see anything to which it was referring to ? any ideas as I am going out of my mind on thisSolved1.3KViews1like4CommentsBE 2014 - Exchange Restore (Emails Missing)
Afternoon All. Having another issue with my new appliances which I am hoping somebody may be able to assist with. Just to give some background to the problem Previous Environment - HP Proliant Server with Backup Exec 2012. New Environment - Backup Exec Appliance 2600 with Backup Exec 2014 (fully patched). Exchange Environment - MS Exchange 2007 SP3. A request has come in to restore some emails from a historical backup (from March 2014) and I have identified the tape which has the relevant data on it however when I have cataloged it on the new appliance a ton of emails are missing from users mailboxes (in some instances there are no emails from the whole of 2012 and 2013 appearing within the restore options). I have inserted the same media into the BE2012 environment which is still in place and can confirm that all the emails are visible and avaliable for restore within Backup Exec 2012 however due to the fact that I have upgraded the agent on the Exchange Server to the necessary BE2014 agent I am unable to restore to the users mailbox. I have approx 35 users requiring restores from this period so would rather not go down the PST restore route. Has anybody got any ideas as to why my new BE2014 server is not displaying all the messages I would expect to be avaliable? I should stress that some mailboxes have the messages avaliable for restore - it is only some which are not appearing with their full content avaliable. The existing environment now that i have a BackupExec Server attached to the fiber tape library and i purchased Backup Exec appliance and CASO for the Physical server to enable the Physical server to manage the appliance and delegates jobs to it. I get an error everytime i tried to add the backup exec appliance as MBES for the Physical server. I want to double check if this solution is applicable and if anyone has any ideas regarding the steps have to be done to perform this solution. On the other hand , I want to notify that the physical Backup Exec server databse is SQL 2008R2 Express501Views1like2CommentsHelp with backing up VM's
Hello people who are reading this. Here is whats going on. I have 3 servers running vmware ESXi 5.1 and vCenter controlling them. I have a brand new Symantec 3600 Appliance. All the VM's are stored on a SAN connected by iSCSI. Now the old way I've been backing up the VM's is by installing the Agent for windows on the VM's and backing them up like that. Everything works fine like that. Since I now have the 3600, I should have the V-Ray edition of agents for VMware. (Understand that I know nothing about the V-Ray edition other than they backup virtural machines better) I have everything from AD to SQL to Exchange and Sharepoint running on VM's. (Server 2003-2008R2) Is the method of backing up the VM's the same as before or is there a better way then installing an agent on every VM?? Example: I have 3 Host ESXi 5.1 servers and 1 vCenter and 10 VM's. What is the best way to backup all the VM's? Do I install an agent on every VM? I have the option of adding a vCenter server to my list of servers to backup, when I edit the selections I can see all the VM's on all the hosts but when I expand a VM it just shows the vmdk. Is there a way to backup both the vmdk and individual files on the server in one job? (i.e. exchange mailboxes, documents, etc.) Or do I create one job to backup the vmdk and one to backup the server itself?? Hopefully someone can understand my madness lol Thanks for any help!Solved878Views1like3CommentsCurious about the Backup Exec 3600 Appliance?
In our efforts to keep you connected to the braintrust behind all things Backup Exec, we are doing another AMA on Reddit. For those of you who are unfamiliar, AMA stands for Ask Me Anything. On Friday 01 March, we will be on Reddit from 2-4 PM EST and you can...uh...well...ask us anything. Various members of the Backup Exec team have taken part in AMAs over the past few months. We have found the feedback from Redditors to be fantastic. That being said, we are back, only this time around, it is the team responsible for the Backup Exec 3600 Appliance. In the name of brutal honesty, this is an AMaA as our team is only responsible for the appliance, not all of Backup Exec. We are committed to being here from 2-4 PM EST answering your questions. We will also do our best to address those that come later. The team includes gallagher221 – Product Management m_bagley – Director Product Mgmt skipstpierre – Product Mgmt jamkey – Technical Support PackMatt73 – Product Marketing Mgmt Also various and sundry members of engineering So come on out. There are a lot of folks out there using the BE Appliance. I know there are a lot more who are curious about it. This is a great chance to speak directly with the folks who built it from the point of conception and are planning its future.344Views1like0CommentsClient side dedupe for Linux machines
For all our linux machines, physical and virtual, we get the following when backing up: Client-side deduplication is enabled for this job, but it could not be used. The link points us to KB article V-79-18273. I have tried following steps outlined in the article, but continue to experience the same issue. Any suggestions?633Views1like4Comments
