How to backup Backup Exec itself, and how to restore it ?
Hi - Im using Backup Exec 2010. In case of a total disaster, how do wemakes a backup of Backup Exec 2010 software itself, with all jobs, history etc? I m thinking of a scenario where my backup exec computer is lost and I need to reinstall Backup Exec and get all backup jobs/history back again? Please advice. Kind r Bjørn.

BackupExec 2010 dropping tape drive offline
Hi, This is a new topic to re-open the issue discussed here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/tape-drive-goes-offline-second-backup Just to recap on the issue itself: Running BE2010 Trial on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64. Hardware is Dell R710 rack server, connected to a HP Ultrium 1760 LTO4 SAS drive via a Dell PERC 6/E SAS Adaptor card. This is what’s happening: Setup and run a backup job with full verify. I’ve tested up to a 250GB job and it completes fine the first time around. After completion of first job, rerun the same backup job (after tweaking the media overwrite/append etc settings) The job immediately fails, reporting the drive as offline – cannot bring drive back online using BackupExec administrator Close BackupExec administrator, restart BackupExec Device/Media service (which also restarts associated service dependencies). Re-open BackupExec administrator - drive appears to be online again, ready for another job to be kicked off. I’ve completely replaced: Numerous LTO tapes The Dell SAS adaptor that connects the Dell server to the HP rack chassis The HP Rack chassis that houses the 1U internal HP LTO4 Ultrium 1760 SAS drive, SAS adaptor board and all The internal HP LTO Ultrium 1760 drive itself We’ve verified that all above component drivers and firmware are fully up to date. This problem occurs with both Symantec Tape Drive drivers and HP's official LTO4 tape drivers, To me, the following facts suggest that the problem lies with BackupExec itself: After the drive goes offline, a simple restart of the BackupExec services seems to bring it back online again If the drive goes offline, and I stop the BackupExec Device/Media service, I can still access the drive using HP LTT utility, and HP Data Protector Express – only BackupExec detects the drive as offline. We’ve replaced all possible hardware components and the problem still remains This problem only ever occurs with BE, I'm testing with HP Data Proctector Express and MS's Data Protection Manager - all work fine. Luckily, I haven't bought a license for BackupExec yet, however this means I doubt Symantec Support will be willing to spend too much time on it, so I might be forced to go with MS's Data Protection Manager instead if I can't get a resolution soon. Has anyone seen/resolved this issue before? Alistair

im using backup exec 11d., i have this problem since last week..all the things cannot be backup and on queue "Please insert overwritable media into the robotic library using the import command. Overwritable media includes scratch, blank, and recyclable media. Please note that depending on the current Media Overwrite Protection setting, imported and allocated media may be overwritable as well. Consult the online help for more information on overwritable media." please consult me in this situation..

Failed Final error: 0xe00084bd - The system cannot find the path specified - unable to restore file or directory.
Hello I can't backup only this Vm with Backup Exec 2014 since a very long time. They are no snapshot existed in snapshot Manager. When i select manually only one VM using snapshot technology .. Could you help me ? it says always .. And after the message appears.... ANd, Why it talk about restore ? I giev a backup not arestore. Error : e00084bd - The system cannot find the path specified - unable to restore file or directory. See the job log for details. Agent used : Yes Advanced Open File Option used : No

Bu VSS hatası için genel olarak net bir çözüm bulamamıştık, microsoft VSS Backup hatasını kabullenmiş bununla ilgili bir sürü makale ve güncelleme çıkarmış ancak net bir çözüm için Exc SP2 Rollup 4 veya SP3 Geçerseniz düzelir diyordu.. Veritas backup forumlarından yola çıkarak edindiğim bilgiler doğrultusunda şunları yaparak çözdüm. 1. Ekteki Vss-update311216.reg dosyasını her CCR deki nod1 ve nod2 ye yüklenmesi gerekiyor 2. Nod’larda symantec agent kurulurken AOF (Advanced open file) kurulmaması gerekiyor 3. Backup jop ayarlarken AOF disable edilmesi 4. Back up from the active copy only mutlaka seçilmeli. Default gelen önerilen seçilmemeli. Konuyu farklı bir şekilde anlatan symantec formu aşağıdadır. Ama en doğrusu benim izlediğim yoldur. Can't backup system state
Ok, next question... One of our servers, that happens to be a backup domain controller, we're using to run test backupswith thetrial version of 2010. The system logon account (which is same as system account right now)being used to backup this dc is a member of the domain admin group which in turn is a member of the administrators group. We have even tried with another domain admin account and get same results. Have followed the error link and tried solutions but no luck... ...andwe keep getting following errors on the test jobs: Error category : Security Errors Error : e000fe7d - Access is denied. To back up or restore System State, administrator privileges are required. For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-65149 We have also turned on AOFO (thanks pkh). Very slow Backup Exec Console (GUI)

BE 2014 SP2 ( 2 server - CAS & MBES) on windows server 2012 R2 with SQL 2008 EnterpriseR2 SP2 . BE Use Local SQL Server withInstance of"MSSQLSERVER" (BEUTILITY Want to use BKUPEXEC) Recently i have Upgraded my servers to SP2 , during the SP2 Update CAS server failed to install the update but after a few tries its updated to SP2 Successfully. ( the Problem appeared after SP2 Upgrade) We have 2 HP MSL Libraries , backup exec is only using one of them (over FC) and other is connected to another backup system but BE can See It. the other library was in offline mode until recently we delete it from BE Console ( ithink it has somthing to do with GUI ProblemTECH204561) SymHelp says the Database Schema is Older than Backup Exec Version ( i triedTECH50537but still getting same error) this server is so important for us , we cannot reload the database we have more than 200 Jobs on it with 150 TB of Backup data. I really apperciate it if anyone can help me with that. thanks

V-79-10000-11226 - VSS Snapshot error - How to prevent it?
I'm running Backup Exec 2010 and we will occasionally have a backup fail on a machine (not always the same one) with the error message: V-79-10000-11226 - VSS Snapshot error (I can provide the full text of the error message if needed) After some research, I found this article on Symantec's web site: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH77585 That fixes the problem and backups run on whatever machine had the problem, but that leaves two big questions: 1) Is there a way to test for this problem without having to actually run the backup? 2) Is there a way to prevent this problem from popping up at all? This seems to come up rather frequently for us and it's pretty random, which is making it very hard to track down, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Bryan

job status - complete with exceptions
there are some backup jobs run in Backup Exec 2012 , only two full backup jobs complete with exceptions in the lastest backup task. The credential of this backup job test result was failed. we haven't change any password or credential of this job.
