I have any enviroment with both Physical and Virtual (VMware) servers I want to backup to both disk and tape. I have no fiber in the enviroment so I don't see FT w/SAN client being an option So I think that leaves me with a SAN media server. But since the SAN media server can only backup itself does that mean I would have to make every VM/Physical server I want backed up both a Nebackup Server and a Media Server. If that is the case that could get ugly very fast. Were would the SSO fall into place. It seems I need the tape library license as well. If I have 200 servers does that really mean I need 200 backup servers, yikes. It seems without fiber Netbackup enviroment could get fugly fast. I realize there are modules that could speed backup up. The thing is, if I go with Net Backup, I dont' want to end up with 1000 different modules during the initial implementation725Views2likes3CommentsCan we import backup images from tapes used for Backup Exec in Netbackup

Hello fellow Phoenix Backup & Archiving group members, There are currently 4 Symantec Backup & Archiving User Group meetings each year in the Phoenix area, yet only a small group of members attend on a regular basis. We would like to improve attendance, as these meetings are full of great information, lessons, tutorials, best practices, and provide a great chance to network with your backup peers & Symantec product experts. To that end, we would like to ask a few simple questions to see if we can increase your interest level in these meetings, as well as provide a broader range of subjects to discuss. 1) What backup and / or archiving products are you currently using? (eg: BackupExec / NetBackup / EnterpriseVault / NBU Appliances / BMR / DLO / NDMP / OpsCenter / etc) Feel free to include non-Symantec products such as DataProtector / Commvault / Networker or Open-Source solutions if you are using them too. 2) Are you currently backing up Virtual Environments (VMWare / Hyper-V / Xen / etc)? Which? 3) Are you currently, or do you plan to use a de-duplication solution in the next 6 months? Which? 4) What backup / archiving related topics would you like to learn more about? 5) What backup / archiving related challenges are you currently experiencing? 6) Are there any products you would like to see an in-depth presentation on at one of the meetings? 7) What can we do that would ensure you would attend the next meeting (Currently December 8th, 2PM - 5PM)? 8) Has your support team mentioned attending these meetings to you? Thank you for your time and attention. Help us to meet your needs! Dear All, Regarding the consolidated backup, has anyone already implement this yet ? When I look at the documentation, it appears that Consolidated backup does not work with non-windows guest OS for file-level backups. I will need to see if this holds true, or if i can still do the file backups when SOlaris 10 is the guest OS on VMWare. Currently now we are using VMWare vSPhere 4.1 These virtual machines reside on a FC SAN, and should also integrate with Veritas NetBackup and Backup Exec and we want to implement Netbackup 7.1. Now we still review what kind of the method of the backup (best practise). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Fatra1KViews0likes5Comments
