shutdown and restart Cluster with VEA
Hi all, I have to shutdown our Hardware for a while. Now I'm looking for the best way to do that. I have two storage SAN's connected to two hardware micosoft clusternodes(Windows Server 2003) with VEA 3.2. I will shutdown the sytsems this way: 1. passive Cluster node 2. aktiv cluster node 3. first san controller 4. second san controller 5. both storage's 6. FB switche and the restart this way: 1. FB switche 2. both storage's 3. both storage san controller 4. both cluster node's Are there any things i have to regard? Do the VEA start the to resync after the restart for hours? or it will only reconnect. I hope you can help me. Thank you!1.8KViews0likes3CommentsHow to adda node to the cluster SFWHA

Has any one done it please advice. Regards.Solved868Views0likes1CommentInstallation of Storage Foundation on Win 2003 Ent. R2
Hi, We have two servers with two non-standerd application running. The Operating System - Windows 2003 Ent. R2 FC based storage connected with both the servers. Now we wants a DR site with host to host replication ... Will this solution work ..........any caution need to take care... I came accross some docs..that the C drive need to be in adifferent arry... IS IT.. Is there any thing else need to take care... Can we also do through Backup Exec to take a backup and create a DR site ...or something.. Please, help.. :) Thanks.EMC CX4 to EMC VNX LUN Migration
I have a few challenges I've stumbled onto in regards to a LUN migration involving Veritas Storage Foundation 5.1, a product I am unfamiliar with. I need to migrate the data/luns on the server that our mail archiving system (NearPoint Mimosa) is on from an EMC CX4-240 to an EMC VNX5500. The server hosting the data is Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 x64. This server has both EMC Powerpath 5.7 SP2 and also has Veritas Storage Foundation 5.1. We've been doing the data/lun migrations using EMC's PowerPath Migration Enabler. That has worked well. Once we got to this server we found the Veritas Software. It seems to be controlling the disk management, so I can't use typical Windows Disk Management. Once EMC support noticed this they were hesitant to go through with the procedure as they are unfamiliar with Veritas. I did some checking on my end and it appears Veritas Storage Foundation was put on this server to re-size some partitions. I don't think the disks were originally formatted using Veritas, but I don't know for certain. All disks within Veritas are in the 'BasicGroup' disk group. Also, whomever did this used the trial version so it is now 1700+ days past expiration. How should I proceed with this? Should I use Veritas to do the LUN migration? Should I just use the EMC PPME tool like I've been using and the LUNS will work fine? Should I remove Veritas all together? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Hi My replication runs fine for an day or two. Then replication stops. DCM log stuck on 2% and grows.Article:TECH55550it’s because of an SRL overflow. To resolve we need to disable access to the volume. We cannot do this every second day. This is a very critical system, we cannot afford any down time. Can it be that VVR is not suitable for our environment? How can I determine the best Data transfer solution between production DC and DR DC? Using SAN mirroring is an option, but how will it handle regions that gets changed all the time? Our environment setup looks like this: 10GB link between DC's DB size 1.6TB Data change daily +- 300GB Thanks MariusSolved876Views0likes2CommentsStorage Foundation vs VMWare and RDM's
Hi We need to share a disk between a physical server and a Virtual server. My Proposed solution - use Storage Foundation to share the RDM disk between the physical and virtual server. However our VMware team are completely against using RDM's. They say it’s not best practice and can brake VMware. Is that true. Maybe there is a better way sharing a disk between physical and virtual servers? Regards Marius Gordon1.3KViews1like3CommentsVSFHA and Microsoft Cluster service on the same server.
I am using trail ware Symantec VERITAS Storage Foundation for windows 6.0.1 for the very first time. I am having issues understanding how to get VSFHA install with Microsoft clutter Survive. I already have created a two node cluster with Veritas Cluster Server(VCS) 6.0.1 and Microsoft Cluster Service install. I have install SQL2008R2 on the Veritas Cluster Server(VCS) and MCS running on the same server. All of the SQL resource has been create and failover is working fine. I just need a little help trying to get to the next level. I can’t fine any Microsoft documentation on how to unconfigure MCS so I can install VSFHA on the same two node that I have already have Veritas Cluster Server(VCS) for windows and MCS 2008 r2 running. Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.Solved1.4KViews0likes5CommentsWindows 2008 R2 Failover Cluster: Removing Cluster Resource (SFW Disk Group)
Hi forum, I have to remove a SFW cluster resource (virtualized storage consisting of three disk arrays) from a Windows Server 2008 R2 Fileserver Cluster, and just want to make sure that I don't delete the SFW volume by removing it from the cluster. So my Step-by-Step plan looks like the following. Did I forget something or is something wrong? Name of the File Server: "MyFileServer" Name of the volume to be removed: "MyVOL" 1. Open Windows Failover Cluster Manager and expand in the navigation column the tree to your File Server "MyFileServer" 2. Section "File Server" (in the main window): Switch File Server "MyVOL" to OFFLINE 3. Section "Drives" (in the main window): Switch Drive "MyVOL" to OFFLINE 4. Section "File Server" (in the main window): Right click on File Server "MyVOL" and select "Delete" from the context menu 5. Section "Drives" (in the main window): Right click on Drive "MyVOL" and select "Remove from MyFileServer" from the context menu By step 5, I guess that under "Storage" (click on "Storage" in the navigation column) the resource "MyVOL" will be shown under "Available Resources". Question: Does it have to be removed also from here to remove it completely from the Windows Cluster? If the answer is "yes": 6. Choose "Storage" in the navigation column 7. Section "Available Drives": Delete MyVOL Once again: The aim is to remove the MyVOL resource from the cluster but keep it as a SFW volume (as it has to be connected later on as a normal dynamic disk group to one of the file server nodes). (I'm sure this is a very simple question to answer for anybody who has ever removed a SFW volume from a Windows Failover Cluster.) Thank you very much for your answer! We have a server 2003 R2 machine, which primarily is running as our NetBackup Master server. In addition to this we have a second machine which is/was setup as in a cluster using Veritas Storage Foundations VVR to replicate the data and VCS to handle the application side of things. About three weeks ago we noticed that the disk write performance was very bad. Using a tool provided by NetBackup to write zero's to the file systems, we noted that it would start off fast, and then performance would drop significantly to the point where it was writing about 0Mb/s or 1Mb/s. This is present on both SAN volumes and local volumes. The same write profile is observed. We also see disk queue lengths go up to 130, but no higher than this This is the case on both of the servers running VCS/VSF, but is not present on any other servers running NBU but not running the storage foundation software. There is no VxCache memory config enabled on the server or any disks. All the disks are reporting as being misaligned. Some time ago VVR was disabled/broken and has not been reinstated as we do not have Symantec support on the product, and noone here knows how to use it. So I am reaching out to anyone who may be able to point me in the right direction. I have read the admin guide and it has given me a bit more understanding of the components in the software, but has not provided much in the way of troubleshooting this write performance problem. Today I will run IOMeter to test reads/writes and a combination of both. VSC/VSF version is 5.1 SP11.5KViews0likes3Comments
