Migrating from Veritas Storage Foundation Volume to Windows Disk
We are in need to migrate off one of our current Storage Foundation system disks to Windows disks. We are building a brand new Windows 2008 R2 failover cluster and will not be using storage foundation with this cluster. The plan is to just migrate the disk from the current server to the new server on the SAN side of things. Does anyone have a good method for doing this? We are using Veritas Storage Foundation HA 5.0 Rollup Path 1A. Thanks for any assistance.Solved3.1KViews1like12CommentsWindows 2008 R2 Failover Cluster: Removing Cluster Resource (SFW Disk Group)
Hi forum, I have to remove a SFW cluster resource (virtualized storage consisting of three disk arrays) from a Windows Server 2008 R2 Fileserver Cluster, and just want to make sure that I don't delete the SFW volume by removing it from the cluster. So my Step-by-Step plan looks like the following. Did I forget something or is something wrong? Name of the File Server: "MyFileServer" Name of the volume to be removed: "MyVOL" 1. Open Windows Failover Cluster Manager and expand in the navigation column the tree to your File Server "MyFileServer" 2. Section "File Server" (in the main window): Switch File Server "MyVOL" to OFFLINE 3. Section "Drives" (in the main window): Switch Drive "MyVOL" to OFFLINE 4. Section "File Server" (in the main window): Right click on File Server "MyVOL" and select "Delete" from the context menu 5. Section "Drives" (in the main window): Right click on Drive "MyVOL" and select "Remove from MyFileServer" from the context menu By step 5, I guess that under "Storage" (click on "Storage" in the navigation column) the resource "MyVOL" will be shown under "Available Resources". Question: Does it have to be removed also from here to remove it completely from the Windows Cluster? If the answer is "yes": 6. Choose "Storage" in the navigation column 7. Section "Available Drives": Delete MyVOL Once again: The aim is to remove the MyVOL resource from the cluster but keep it as a SFW volume (as it has to be connected later on as a normal dynamic disk group to one of the file server nodes). (I'm sure this is a very simple question to answer for anybody who has ever removed a SFW volume from a Windows Failover Cluster.) Thank you very much for your answer! Hi. We want to use Storage Foundation 5.1 to manage our dual path disk. We are clustering MS BizTalk 2006 so we need to use MSCS to Cluster BizTalk. Problem is that MSCS cannot see the disk group created in SF. We are using Windows 2003 Enterprise Server R2 We installed SF first and the disk groups appear fine. Then we tried to configure MSCS and it could not see the disk. During some investigation we discovered we needed the MSCS Option, so we added our "VRTS STORAGE FOUNDATION OPTION MICROSOFT CLUSTER 5.1 WIN FOR OS TIER ENTERPRISE EDITION STD LIC" license key and it indicated that the MSCS option is available. However, when we go back to Add/Remove programs to select this option, it does not appear as a choice in the add/remove SF options. How should we proceed? Is there a seperate plug in we need to download or should it appear in the list of options in the SF installation screen? Do we need to have MSCS configured before we install SF so it can detect it? Any advice would be appreciated. WarrenSolved1.9KViews0likes4Commentsshutdown and restart Cluster with VEA
Hi all, I have to shutdown our Hardware for a while. Now I'm looking for the best way to do that. I have two storage SAN's connected to two hardware micosoft clusternodes(Windows Server 2003) with VEA 3.2. I will shutdown the sytsems this way: 1. passive Cluster node 2. aktiv cluster node 3. first san controller 4. second san controller 5. both storage's 6. FB switche and the restart this way: 1. FB switche 2. both storage's 3. both storage san controller 4. both cluster node's Are there any things i have to regard? Do the VEA start the to resync after the restart for hours? or it will only reconnect. I hope you can help me. Thank you!1.8KViews0likes3CommentsStorage Foundation 3.2.542.0 error message
Hi all, we have a veritas enterprise administrator runnning on windows 2003 server cluster running. Now i see an exclamation mark on some volumes and hd's. If opne a volume and see one of the disks i see this alerts: Warning V-76-58645-1000 Aler Propagated and Error V-76-58645-1080 Subdisk Detached If i take a look on my SAN it seems that all HD's are ok. At the moment I'm not really know what it means and what i have to do. Can anyone help me here? Or i have just to reactivate the harddisks? or just du cluster turn to the other cluster node? Hi all, Some time ago we experienced a total network failure between our to Datacenters. This failure only took place for a couple of seconds but it resulted in a active node and a node that was trying to start all instances. When connectivity was restored both nodes stopt working (to prevent splitbrain) My question: Is there a way to increase the timeinterval that dictates the nodes to take action in such a case? e.g.That the inactive node only starts when connectivity is lost for more than 5 minutes. We are considering options for clustering Windows (2k3R2, 2k8R2, X64) nodes that are actually VMware VMs (ESX 4.1). Is there documentation that describes setting this up, and what limitations might exist? For example, does usingcluster effectivelykill the ability to VMotion? Do you have to use RDMs for storage? Sorry for being vague, I don't know enough (yet) to ask targeted questions. Thanks in advance!Solved1.7KViews1like4CommentsPoor disk write performance
We have a server 2003 R2 machine, which primarily is running as our NetBackup Master server. In addition to this we have a second machine which is/was setup as in a cluster using Veritas Storage Foundations VVR to replicate the data and VCS to handle the application side of things. About three weeks ago we noticed that the disk write performance was very bad. Using a tool provided by NetBackup to write zero's to the file systems, we noted that it would start off fast, and then performance would drop significantly to the point where it was writing about 0Mb/s or 1Mb/s. This is present on both SAN volumes and local volumes. The same write profile is observed. We also see disk queue lengths go up to 130, but no higher than this This is the case on both of the servers running VCS/VSF, but is not present on any other servers running NBU but not running the storage foundation software. There is no VxCache memory config enabled on the server or any disks. All the disks are reporting as being misaligned. Some time ago VVR was disabled/broken and has not been reinstated as we do not have Symantec support on the product, and noone here knows how to use it. So I am reaching out to anyone who may be able to point me in the right direction. I have read the admin guide and it has given me a bit more understanding of the components in the software, but has not provided much in the way of troubleshooting this write performance problem. Today I will run IOMeter to test reads/writes and a combination of both. VSC/VSF version is 5.1 SP11.5KViews0likes3CommentsHow do I migrate from MSCS to SFWHA?
Hi, I'm in the middle of a proposal and the customer ask us to describe the way (step by step) to migrate their MSCS (2003) to SFWHA (VCS)? do you know if Symantec has a procedure? Any recommendation? The customer requires minimal impact and smooth process? Thanks for your help. Gonzalo GomezSolved1.5KViews0likes7Comments
