Backupexec USB Tape drives and Compression
We typically install HP Tape Drives & Symantec Backupexec. In 2010 we installed a HP USB DAT 160 with Symantec Backupexec 12.5. The backup would not compress. Symantec told us that Backupexec is capable of compression & HP told us that the tape drive is capable of compression. But we could not get any compression when used together. An engineer in our firm did some digging around & came back saying that Symantec Backupexec will not support compression on USB Tape devices. We finally gave up & purchased a HP SAS DAT 160 & compression worked. I am not looking for do this do that suggestions, trust me we have done it all. I am not concerned about how much compression & the factors that affect compression. As far as I am concerned 1MB over native capacity is compression My question is does anybody (would love to hear from Symantec) know for a fact if it is still true for the latest version of Symantec Backupexec i.e. It will not support compression on USB Tape devices?908Views13likes2CommentsBackup Exec 15 - where to find manuals, guides and compatibility information

We are currently busy performing a live DR test of all our prod servers consisting of 2003 and 2008 Windows servers. The 2003 servers restore no problem. The restore job for the 2008 servers also finish successfully. However when starting up the 2008 servers it no longer hav ethe same network settins that it had when being backed up. We ran a similar test last year following the same procedure in which all servers restored no problem. We are currently runing BackupExec 2010 R2. In the virtual environment the only thing which changed is that we upgeaded from ESX\ESXi 4.1 U1 to 4.1 U2 at which time all NICs were upgraded to vmxnet3. The NICs seem to have loaded with default settings. IP6 on and configured for DHCP as apposed to IP4 on with the original IP configured. Has anyone else experiance this or have an idea on how to resotre these 2008 servers without having to reconfigure all the network settings?Solved2.2KViews7likes4CommentsDoes Backup exec 2012 admin console support 12.5 server

We have a new Windows server 2012 R2 Exchange 2013 cluster without CAAP/CNO and BE2014 SP2 but no joy. Any help would be appreciated. Tnx. I've recently migrated my jobs from BE 2010 to BE 2012. All went fine until recently, when I've changed the different Linux backup jobs. I'm guessing that -seen 'follow symbolic links' is no longer an option in BE 2012- it took the 2010 settings and migrated everything correctly. But when I've changed the job BE stored it in a 2012 format, stripping the old config. Is there a way to reactivate this, currently I'm only backing up a file instead of all the directories referenced by the symbolic link ? If contacted Symantec several times, spent some time on the phone with a technician, but they did not come up with a solution. best regards795Views4likes2Comments
