Split Brain in GCO
I was just testing this in my VMWare workstation. I configured two nodes as in my primary DC servers, providing HA for SQL2005 on Windows 2008 R2 (x64). I also configured a single node cluster as in my DR site. Both of the cluster are connected using Global Cluster Option. Data is being replicated using Veritas Volume Replicator. All the above have win 2008 R2 Std edition as the OS. Have configured HA-DR using Storage Foundation - High Availability & Disaster Recovery 6.0. I'm facing issue with the following scenario : 1)I'm able to switchover the Service Group across the site. And also come back to primary site. 2)I keep the Service Group at primary nodes, and now forcefully shutdown the OS. At DR site VCS prompts me to take action and makes the Service Group come online at DR site. 3)Now i manually bring up the nodes at primary site (but im confused what steps to be taken to make the "previously primary" site to act as the new secondary. If i just manually start the SG , i end up making both the sites as primary site . ... How do i make the role reversal afte the primary site has come up. Regards.

Please suggest a disaster recovery plan for 1 Oracle Application and 1 Database Server from primary to secondary. I have dedicated bandwith between primary and the remote site There is a need to replicate the ERP and users data to the remote server.

How does mirroring work within Storage Foundation
How does storage foundation mirroring works (technical deep dive)? How does it sync, Synchronous or asynchronous? In other words, I have a LUN in Datacentre 1 mirrored with a LUN in Datacentre 2. Datacentre 2 is 50KM away from Datacentre 1. (Just an example) Will this slow down the system performance?

disk doesn't show up
Hi Team, With regards to above change was implemented last week end, Change of the ports (Removing the old ports, adding the new one). SAN end the new ports has been added & old one removed, after this some of the Disks were failed the after rebooting the server volumes came on line (Drives which failed at this time L: R: S: T: ) But the Backup volume did not come online Hard disk 5 Shows as disconnected. (Rescanned, reactivated disk) did not help After this issue old ports added again, still the hard disk shows as disconnected. Reactivated the san provisioned HDD 05 but same isuse Today we disconnected same drive with help of SAN team & reconnected it tried reconnected still the issue remains. Request you to help me to fix this storage drive problem.

Unable to go offline
Hi everyone, I'm facing a problem when I try to take offline a Service Group, the issue is that one of the services of the service group, cannot go offline and it enters into the following state "Unable to offline|Status Unknow", and if I wanna this service to go offline I help killing it with the windows task manager. SFHA - Windows with VMware shared vmdk disk
IHACr who wants to Implement a Windows SFHA Cluster with a shared vmdk disk. They have procured the SFHA Windows license. The Cluster nodes/VM's will be hosted on seperate ESX hosts. Few questions: a) Is this configuration (shared vmdk) supported in a Windows SFHA cluster? b) What happens in case one VMware ESX host fails? Will the VM in the second host continue having access to the shared vmdk? c) This question is not related to Symantec but more specific to VMware ESX. How should the datastore in VmWare be configured. My understanding is that a SAN LUN datastore can only be seen by one VMware host at a time?

I have mirrored the data in between two sotrage
Hi, I am using Storage Foundation for windows HA, Now i wan to replace my old HP storage with new NetApp storage for this i mirrored the data of Exchange servers 2007. before removing the HP storage i just want to make sure the my mirrored data is consistent. Is there any tool or option in the SFWHA to check the data conssitency. I am also using VVR between two sites for teplication the DATA Sajid

Network connectivity loss solution
Hi all, Some time ago we experienced a total network failure between our to Datacenters. This failure only took place for a couple of seconds but it resulted in a active node and a node that was trying to start all instances. When connectivity was restored both nodes stopt working (to prevent splitbrain) My question: Is there a way to increase the timeinterval that dictates the nodes to take action in such a case? e.g.That the inactive node only starts when connectivity is lost for more than 5 minutes. Making Virtual IP as source IP on Windows 2008 R2 node
We are running SFHA v5.1 for Windows 2008 R2 and we would like the floating virtual IP assigned to resource group to the be the source IP of the node instead of the default IP assigned to the interface. I'm a little fuzzy on how Windows chooses which IP is the source IP if there are multiple IP's assigned to an interface, but I was wondering if there is any configuration setting that can be chosen within SF. This is important because the firewall team only wants to allow through the VIP of the resource group.

Using SFHA on Windows, under VMware
We are considering options for clustering Windows (2k3R2, 2k8R2, X64) nodes that are actually VMware VMs (ESX 4.1). Is there documentation that describes setting this up, and what limitations might exist? For example, does usingcluster effectivelykill the ability to VMotion? Do you have to use RDMs for storage? Sorry for being vague, I don't know enough (yet) to ask targeted questions. Thanks in advance!
