Symantec Netbackup 7 licensing
Hi All, I'd like to know if I'm getting this correctly. I'm planning to getNetbackup 7 Starter Editionaccording tob-symc_netbackup_7_core_DS_12995286-2.en-us.pdf(http://eval.symantec.com/mktginfo/enterprise/fact_sheets/b-symc_netbackup_7_core_DS_12995286-2.en-us.pdf)Table 2. the Edition comparison the Starter Edition can have 5 Server (supported clients) does this means i can have the following backup items: 1x ESXi 4 server (using vStorage API for inline deduplication - Change Block Tracking) 1x Solaris SPARC + Oracle DB 10gR2 1x Linux 1x Windows Server + Share Point 2007 (Granular restore) 1x Windows Server + Exchange Server 2007(Granular restore) all of the above with bare metal restore capability. Since it is said that i could have: Server Clients, Tape Drive and Database Agents included ? yes I understand that Deduplication is not included here since it will need another license to spend. I'm getting confused here of which product that i should get :-| Would be good if anyone can clarify this please ?Solved1.2KViews4likes6CommentsOracle "Check Logical" parameter - 4X times faster if not active!
Imoved an oracle database from network to Fiber channel and saw no speed improvement, and after many painful days of tuning, the DBAremoved the "Check Logical" parameter. My 7 hour backup completed in 1.5 hours! 4.6Xfaster. My larger databases actually started to overrun the disk arrays. Nice when backups run too fast and you have to slow them up! Thought Iwould throw this info out there, if you are not getting 50+MB/Sec throughput per child job...Solved600Views3likes2CommentsOracle Backup Issue | NBU ver 6.5
Hi Guru's Recently had issue with an oracle backup, Sorry if the information given is insufficient but will try my best. As per what the structure is currently (Provided with the backup selection list in bracket): 1st DB Backup Runs (/usr/local/nb/scripts/oracle_rman_hot.uaedb1) 2nd RMAN Logs (Backup selection list is empty) 3rd DB Files ( / ) 4th OS Files ( / ) ========================= When a Oracle backup is triggered, the others gets triggered automaticly until it completes. And all these are in a different policy: e.g 1.DB Backup = (DB_ORA_UAE) 2.RMAN Logs = (UAE_RMAN_LOGS_DW) 3.DB Files = (DB_Files) 4.OS Files = (FS_UAE_UNIX_1) ========================== My concern is, how to make the rman log, db files and os files jobs to run automated upon triggering the DB backup? is it by script? On another note, DBA team informed me that all the backups in order, but i cant seem to see that in netbackup. Thank You Guru's1.1KViews2likes5CommentsNetbackup Licensing
Hi every1, This is my first write to any Discussion forum, i will need ur help on many topics. i want to know information about the Netbackup Licensing. Does someone has any idea how can i do licensing when i have a new datacentre environment ? will someone help me out on following queries ? 1) Netbackup agents and their licensing ? 2) Does separate license will be required for adding clients like UNIX (Solaris, Linux), Windows , Databases (Oracle, Sybase etc), ESX (Vmware) 3) like in my environment, i have 4 Oracle databases running on SUN E2900 system and only 1 license is purchased. My query is that, if i want to run another database like SYBASE on sameserver, do i have to buy another license ? orper server license willbe enough ? Another query related to databse is that, 4 database are runningon Primary Site, and 1 system V890 is on DR site as a Standby, Does thatV890 system will reqiure a separate NBUdatabase License ? same case for MS-SQL. 4) If in NBU environment, i have a TAPE Library like SL500 with 4 drives and i want to add more drives ? whats in this scenario ? 5) Does a special License will be required for a single Tape library with NO Drive ? Specially i want to know informationaboutlicensing in tape Library environment.2.4KViews2likes5Commentsbpflist returns "no entity was found" for existing backup id
Background: I have an Oracle 10gR2 database that runs on a Solaris 10 server. Backups go through NetBackup 7.1 which runs on a Windows server. For the second backupid shown, I see only one copy on physical tape (MediaID APA208). I need to be able to see the actual file(s) that are within these backups. I have searched on this issue and found replies that reference the "bpflist" command. I can run the command without specifying a backup ID and get about 900 line returned. Unfortunately when I try to specify a backup ID, I consistently get "no entity was found". Hi all, When I configure a restore in BAR for a client, say, for the MS-Windows policy type, I can select a specific folder or file, click Actions > Preview Media and it would tell me which media id(s) the folder/file is associated with. Since BAR knows which media id(s) my selected file is stored in, it obviously knows which backup id(s) (image id) the file is associated with. Because if it doesn't, then it shouldn't be able to tell me which media id(s) the file is stored in. What I want to find out, is the backup id(s) associated with the file I selected for restore. The Preview Media option in BAR only tells me the associated media id(s) for the file, but I also want to know its associated backup id(s). If I use the "Images on Tape" report, or the catalog "verify" feature against a media id, it would tell me all the backup ids associated with that media id. But picture this problem: A single backup policy backs up one client: somesvr The selection list contains different drives and folders for somesvr. If the media ABC011 contains ten backup ids, and they all begin with somesvr_xxxxxxxxxx (x = ctime code). Then which backup id(s) out of the ten contains the file C:\test.txt on the server "somesvr" ? In BAR, if I select the file C:\test.txt (for a specific day and time), then use Preview Media, it tells me this file is stored in ABC011. But the problem is, I want to know which backup id(s) out of all backup id(s) inside ABC011 this file is really associated with. Thanks for your time! P.S. I know I could use bpflist to find out what folder/files each backup id contains, but I consider this an inefficient solution when I have hundereds of backup ids to go through.
