I'mplannig a NBU7 Deduplication but I don't know the differences about this option. 1 - SYMC NETBACKUP DEDUPLICATION OPTION 2 - SYMC NETBACKUP PLATFORM DEDUPLICATION OPTION ADD-ON I need know understand this information to get the correct SKUs. Who can help me? Tks a lot.Solved2.2KViews0likes9CommentsUtilizing SLP for vault
Hi Current environment: Main DC: Master: RHEL 6.7. NBU version 7.7.2 Mediaserver: RHEL 7.2 NBU version 7.7.2 RemoteDC: Master: RHEL 6.7. NBU version 7.7.2 Mediaserver: RHEL 7.2. NBU version 7.7.2 Both media servers are taking backups in their respective DC`s, and then they replicate the data through AIR to eachother. To achieve this i have created an SLP, which look likes this: One used in Main DC: Backup -> MSDP(Main DC) Replication -> MSDP (Remote DC) One used in Remote DC: Backup -> MSDP(Remote) Replication -> MSDP (Main DC) I have a taperobot connected to the Netbackup environment in Main DC. So what i am trying to achieve now is to create another duplication to tape, once a month for long term retention. So this duplication is going to run only once a month, and will have a different retention, for data from both mediaservers. Here are some questions i have: How can i achieve this? My understanding is that i need to create another schedule and SLP, but just dont understand how? How will i be able to track the media used for this duplication, what about the eject report? And to make the situation even worse, i also have a Forced rescan schedule setup to run every 6 months. If i end up creating new schedule for monthly backups, wonder what will happen if full, forced rescan and monthly all kicks at the same time. My understanding is that is uses the one with longest frequency which in this case would be forced rescan (6months). Would appreciate some help here, thanks.1.6KViews0likes4CommentsSynthetic backup failing with error 87.

Hi Guys, I'm having problem to make my SLP to run via SAN and hope you guys can help me or give me some ideas on this. Here's my environment details. All Netbackup running on version 7.7.2 1 master server - Linux Redhat 41 clients - Linux Redhat There is no dedicated media server On Master Server: We have 2 HBAs. One is 16GB (Qlogic QLE2660), which is not supported by Veritas (yet) based on hardware compatibility matrix. So we added a temporary HBA (Qlogic QLE2460) with 4GB speed. Driver successfully installed on QLE2460. We successfully configured FT backup for SAN clients based on below zoning setup. SAN Client Zone Member Client -initiator Master Server - target (4GB HBA) SAN storage - initiator/target The backup setup for all SAN client is to back them up to disk (which is on master server). And then it will be duplicated to tape via SLP. The issue is currently all the SLP is running via LAN and not FT. I wonder why since both the disk and tapelibrary are connected to master server. And to think that tape drive is on FC but data transfer to LAN is just doesn't make sense to me. So wezone the 16GB HBA (initiator) together with the 4GB HBA (target), setting the master server to be a SAN client as well (bpclntcmd -sanclient 1),thinking that perhaps we can make the data transfer from the 16GB card to 4GB card. The transport type when we backing up master server by itself now changed to FT. But it failed withFT Pipe could not be opened (83). Can we do a zoning for master server as below? Master Server Zone Member Master Server - initiator (16GB HBA) Master Server - target (4GB HBA) Tape library - target Basically we have 2 problems now. Based on what I explained above. Is it possible SLP to run on FT? Or do we need to have dedicated FT media server? Error 83 - Is it because both HBA belongs to the master server? NBU Version:- 7.6.0.1 Its a Single Master and Media Server OS: Solaris Currently we have attached a DAS boxdirectly to our media serverof 45 TB and its configured as multiple basic disk storage units for backup Now we are planning to go with deduplication disk (either MSDP or Puredisk) 1. Want to know any possiable way to convert the existing backups from basic disk to deduplication disk (MSDP or PureDisk) 2. Its is possiable to add more disk space we already added 45 TB so that we can create seperate MSDP untill the basic disk backup retentions are complete.Solved1.3KViews0likes2CommentsAIR replication restart
Hello I have a question regarding deduplication and AIR : when a replication is interrupted for any reason (link failure, server reboot, ....) are the block already sent to the other site totaly lost ? With other words, when the replication is restarted (from 0 of course) , is it really not optimized (supposing it is the first time it runs) or the first part of the replication can take advantage of already sent blocks ? I imagine the blocks received by the remote MSDP are stored then could be potentially be used ... but maybe they are flagged "to be deleted" when the replciation process is broken and then can not be used ... If anybody has knowlegde or ideas on this point .... Best regardsSolved1.7KViews0likes5Commentsclient side dedup issue
Hi there, First of all let me explain you our Backup infraestructure. We've got a Netbackup 5230 appliance (2.6.1.1) with 25TB cabine in the main site. Copies in the same site are working with no issues. Now, we've got a remote site with a VMWARE ESX 5.1. This server has a file server with Windows 2012 (fileserver) and vmware backup host with Windows 2008 R2 (BHserver), both servers connected to the same datastore in a HP SAS cabine connected to the server. Sites are connected by one 100 Mb/s point to point circuit. The issue is it seems deduplication isn't being done in the client side but in Appliance. We've got set in fileserver "Always use client-side deduplication" and in the job policy BHserver is selected as VMware backup host. I'm testing with boot disk (40GB). First copy took 77 minutes. (log1.txt) We expected second copy was faster because the data sent should be fewer, but it took the same time. (Log2.txt) As you can see were sent 444151 KB and a 98.9% of dedup theorically. How is it possible it's taking the same time? I was checking network with Traffic 10 0 and it was sending to 80Mb all the time. (and 40765163KB x 8 / 1024 / 80 / 60 = 66 minutes, near to 73 minutes it took.) Because of this I think dedup is done in target side not source. The rest of the tries are taking the same time aprox (log3.txt) How can we are sure or enforce client side deduplication? Many thanks for your help. I have server 22 and sever 24, both servers have the same disk pool usable size which is 50,471,198.73 but server 22 disk pool usedcapactity is 38,265,560.96 with percentage disk pool usage at 75.82 and server 24 used capacity is 34,230,007.16. with percentage disk pool usage at 67.82. I called netbackup and there are no orphaned deduplicated Images and his suggestion was to run an images on disk report (which I have running now) and find the odd images. I was just wondering if anyone else may have came accross an issue like this be before or if anyone have any good ideas. I attatched a copy of the Disk pool utilization and capacity report from the netbackup appliances. Thank you in advance.534Views0likes1CommentMSDP to MSDP duplication seeding
We are running NetBackup 7.6.1.1. We have several remote sites. Each remote site has a local media server and MSDP. We have one central site with another MSDP. We use VMware policies with SLPs to backup data in the remote sites to respective media servers before duplicating the data to the central MSDP. Some of our servers have large amounts of data and our SLP windows and WAN links are not adequate to complete the initial/full duplication jobs. While I have seen lots of discussions about seeding, most of them do not seem to apply or are quite complicated. I saw one discussion about using a Basic disk to seed the central MSDP but the details were lacking. What simple options can I use to seed our central MSDP? Something similar to this?? 1. Connect a USB drive and create a storage unit of type BasicDisk 2. Create a policy to backup data to the new storage unit 3. Execute policy 4. Detach USB drive and ship it to central site 5. Attach USB drive Then what? Do I need to expire images? Do I need to import images? While I am not new to NetBackup, I have never had to seed MSDP so any help is appreciated.Solved3.8KViews0likes15Comments
