How to migrate backups between MSDP's
Hello people. I have a domain with two MSDP but a MSDP this with 89% in use and another 35% in use and I have backups with one-year retention. In this case, I wonder what is the best practice to migrate a backup between MSDP? I need to reduce a use the first MSDP !Solved1KViews0likes3CommentsAppliance MSDP Resize not showing in Netbackup Master
Hello This is in reference to the now-closed http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/configure-entire-space-puredisk-appliance-5230-netbackup-7601 We are running a windows master server with NBU 7.6.1.2 with a 5230 appliance running 2.6.1.2 - the previous MSDP size was 64TB (the max prior to 7.6) - so we followed the procedure to resize it via the web console --- which we did from 64 to 70TB. Restarted the appliance, the master, etc... yet the master continues to show the old size under Devices \ Disk Pools (64TB) - ran disk inventory, refresh, restarted appliance and master once again, still nothing. The appliance continues to show the new size under the web console as well as via the CLISH. Have we missed something?2.5KViews0likes8CommentsNew Device Mapping File for Netbackup 5230 Appliances
Hi all, I am trying to find the latest Device Mapping File that is suitable for installing on Netbackup 5230 Appliances... I have found a Linux one (Linked below), but I am unsure if I can use that one for my 5230 Netbackup Appliances, as it is not listed under the supported products of that particular document https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH227192.html Can somebody either point me to the correct Device Mapping File for NBU 5230 Appliances or confirm that it is OK to use the Device Mapping File as linked above... We currently are running 2.6.1.1 and I need the fresh Device Mapping File to enable Netbackup Accelerator functionality for our HP B6200 Deduplication Appliances, that recently had Accelerator Functionality added by a firmware update... Current Device Mapping present on our Netbackup 5230 Appliances: tpext -get_dev_mappings_ver device mappings version in the EMM database is 1.120 device mappings version from the local file is 1.120 Local device mappings file is up-to-date The new one is 1.124 (See link above) Any help will be appreciated :) Thank you in advance!Solved1.1KViews1like2Commentsdeduplication works on different policies of same client?
Hi All, Platform: NBU applicance 2.6.0.2, master+media server + MSDP I am confused about deduplication and accelerator. Assume I have 2 policies, A and B. Both policy are the same. Policy type VMware, backing up only 1 VM and is the same VM. Accelerator enabled. To MDSP pool. Assume there is a successful full backup done by policy A. If I now run a manual full backup using policy B, will it reference to the full backup at policy A for deduplication and accelerator? Another question about san and nbd. Assume I use policy A and performed a successful "nbd" full backup. If I now enforce policy A to use "san" only, will deduplication and accelerator works as usual? Hello, I deployed an NBU5230 version 2.6.0.4 as an MSDP media server. We have performance issue with tape out from the appliance MSDP so I do a little research on the internet. I found that there are some settings we can tune on the contentrouter.cfg and pd.conf file. My question is there are more than one location of those configuration files, which file should I edit? e.g. /usr/openv/pdde/pdcr/etc/contentrouter.cfg /disk/etc/puredisk/contentrouter.cfg Thanks & regards, Chan KH.Solved1.4KViews0likes7CommentsCannot run garbage collection anymore. crcollect is missing...
I have a NetBackup 5220 appliance, which was upgraded to version 2.6 several months ago. I was trying to run a manual garbage collection today, following the usual instructions. Hi. Good day! Need someone to point me to the right direction please. Hi I am using NEtbackup Appliance 5220 with 2.5.1. The configuration is 4 Fibre Connected LTO-5 Tape Drives with MSDP pool of 32 TB. I have created SLPs to first backup data to MSDP pool and then to Tapes. The first problem is i cant see the speed when data s written from MSDP pool to tapes via SLP. The java console doesnt shoow anything in job details under activity monitor. So, i am looking int bpdb logs which shows me a speed of not more than 70MB/s. I havae arround 30 TB of data which goes to tape during weekends via FUll Backups. I need to do some capacity planning, so it i very important for me to understand this. We are in the middle of a project to replace our current BackupExec 2012 with Data Domain 565 backup architecture with one of 3 possible solutions: 1. NetBackup 5230 Appliances (1x5230 with 76TB at primary DC and 2x5230 with 76TB each at secondary DC) 2. EMC Avamar/DD2500 (with NDMP Accelerator node and 1x90TB at primary DC and 1x135TB at secondary DC) 3. Commvault Simpana (dont have as much detail on this option, mainly looked at a Backup Service with a local provider that would use this system) Here are some details about our current storage architecture: Primary SAN = EMC VNX 5300 with some block level and file level storage Secondary SAN = EMC VNX 5300 with some block level and file level storage Use RecoverPoint to replicate block level storage (LUNs) between SANs Use VNX Replicator to replicate file level storage (file systems) netweem SANs We are almost 100% virtualized with VMware 5.0 host servers (3 hosts at primary and 3 hosts at secondary sites) 100Mbps metro ethernet between data centers Ok, so here is where our backup problems come up: 5 x NAS file systems stored on file level side of VNX 5300 fs1 = 7.2TB file system takes too long to back up fs2 = about 8TB of small files that is out image archive system (130 milion files) fs3 = large file archive about 11TB, only has data added each quarter of the year (about 400-500GB per quarter), these files are manally moved from production file systems into this archive area, but users need access to this read only data 24x7 as needed This is probably enough detail for now... We like the Symantec approach and would like to go with it but are not 100% sure how it will handle these lare file systems. We have been told so far that we can use NetBackup Accelerator to backup the large file systems, but it I am not convinced. I do like the way the NetBackup appliance is directly attached to the storage and I think that will help make the backup jobs more efficient with less network parts in the puzzle. I also like the NBU interface best so far. I like the Avamar/Data Domain approach since we are familar with Data Domain already and we know what kind of depuplication we should get. Plus, since we have had the EMC VNX SANs, I have had good experience with EMC support so far and this would be more of the same in that sense. Symantec support for BackupExec... sucks... I am not a big fan of NDMP and the Avamar solution would leverage that. I have seem many posts that Anyway, I guess what I am hoping to hear is someone has gone through something simular and has used a NBU appliance with NBU accelerator to SUCCESSFULLY backup their large NAS file systems ON A VNX series SAN. OR is Avamar with NDMP backups our best bet.Solved2.6KViews1like7Comments
