BackupExec 2010 dropping tape drive offline
Hi, This is a new topic to re-open the issue discussed here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/tape-drive-goes-offline-second-backup Just to recap on the issue itself: Running BE2010 Trial on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64. Hardware is Dell R710 rack server, connected to a HP Ultrium 1760 LTO4 SAS drive via a Dell PERC 6/E SAS Adaptor card. This is what’s happening: Setup and run a backup job with full verify. I’ve tested up to a 250GB job and it completes fine the first time around. After completion of first job, rerun the same backup job (after tweaking the media overwrite/append etc settings) The job immediately fails, reporting the drive as offline – cannot bring drive back online using BackupExec administrator Close BackupExec administrator, restart BackupExec Device/Media service (which also restarts associated service dependencies). Re-open BackupExec administrator - drive appears to be online again, ready for another job to be kicked off. I’ve completely replaced: Numerous LTO tapes The Dell SAS adaptor that connects the Dell server to the HP rack chassis The HP Rack chassis that houses the 1U internal HP LTO4 Ultrium 1760 SAS drive, SAS adaptor board and all The internal HP LTO Ultrium 1760 drive itself We’ve verified that all above component drivers and firmware are fully up to date. This problem occurs with both Symantec Tape Drive drivers and HP's official LTO4 tape drivers, To me, the following facts suggest that the problem lies with BackupExec itself: After the drive goes offline, a simple restart of the BackupExec services seems to bring it back online again If the drive goes offline, and I stop the BackupExec Device/Media service, I can still access the drive using HP LTT utility, and HP Data Protector Express – only BackupExec detects the drive as offline. We’ve replaced all possible hardware components and the problem still remains This problem only ever occurs with BE, I'm testing with HP Data Proctector Express and MS's Data Protection Manager - all work fine. Luckily, I haven't bought a license for BackupExec yet, however this means I doubt Symantec Support will be willing to spend too much time on it, so I might be forced to go with MS's Data Protection Manager instead if I can't get a resolution soon. Has anyone seen/resolved this issue before? AlistairSolved8.8KViews1like40CommentsMount failed Error
Job Completion Status Job ended: Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 9:00:06 AM Completed status: Canceled, timed out The job was automatically canceled because it exceeded the job's maximum configured run time. Errors Click an error below to locate it in the job log - Error - Mount failed. Operation aborted Alright, so my daily backup to a tape drive job is failing. It's returning the above error. When I go into the event logs on my server, it stands out to me that I'm getting a File Replication Service error. it is Event ID 13568 which claims "The File Replication Service has detected that the replica set "DOMAIN SYSTEM VOLUME (SYSVOL SHARE)" is in JRNL_WRAP_ERROR." Seems like these two things might be related, but I'm not sure. At this point I have a few questions: Which error is causing the other, or are they completely seperate? What does "Mount failed" entail, the Tape backup drive or the harddrives? And of course, What can I do to fix this?Solved5.1KViews0likes3Commentscould not connect to Enterprise Vault Directory on "EV10"

Hi. I have problem with LTO3 tape media labels and descriptions in Backup Exec 2012. If I manually edit Media Description (Right click on tape media), everything works. But after backup job writes to this tape, Media Description is deleted. The same problem is when I tried "Label Media", but it would be enough just Media description for me....Solved3.5KViews1like23CommentsCannot connect to Backup Exec 2012 Sever
I just recently uninstalled Backup Exec 12.5 and installed a fresh copy of BE 2012. I did not run into any errors when installing. I restarted the server but I cannot login to the BE server. When I try to log in I get this error... "Could not connect to server DC01.domain.local. Check that the server name and login credentials were entered correctly and that Backup Exec services are running on the server. The BackupExec Management Service was unable to start. Data Source: BEDB Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection." When I change the name of the server from DC01.domain.local to just DC01 I get this error.... "Login failed The login credentials specified appear to be invalid. The server has rejected the client credentials." I started BEUtility.exe, changed the service account to bckupexec, restarted and it still will not allow me to log in. I made sure that user was part of the domain admins group but I still cannot log in. WTF is going on? This was a fresh install and it is not working??? The program is installed on a domain controller. There is no firewall/anti virus running. Please help, I cannot go much longer without a backup and I dont want to uninstall, reinstall BE 12.5. I created a backup of my Dell Optiplex 390 and there are 3 total files. A Dell File, A Recovery File, and the C Drive. When I boot into the SSR 2011 I am clicking Backup Recovery then clicking next and I am loading the files in this order. (I am deleting the c drive partition before laying down the images) 1.Dell File 2.C Drive 3.System Recovery (making it bootable option checked) Am I doing this wrong? Does anyone know the correct order to lay down the images, and what options I need to have checked when doing a recovery on this machine? So far I have gotten a missing boot file error then telling me to ctrl+alt+delete+, The error I have gotten the most is a black screen with a blinking cursor...... I am stumped on what options may need to be checked within the 3 different files and which order to lay them down. Any and all support is much appreciated, if you need more details please let me know what you need. Thanks, Joshua3.1KViews2likes21CommentsWindows Change Journal not working with Offhost Backup
After my Update to Backup Exec 2012 I wanted to try using Off Host Backups for our file server. The data is stored on a Dell Power Vault MD 3000i and I am using the newest hardware snapshot provider from Dell: SmVssProvider (Version 10.80.10). I also want to use True Image Restore and therefore created a backup job with the "using catalogs" option. Now I ran into the following issue: I created a backup job with "using catalogs" and the hardware snapshot provider. Full and incremental jobs seem to work fine. If I change the job definition to use the Offhost feature the full backup job runs way faster but I get the following warning for incremental jobs: "The Windows Change Journal is unavailable or incomplete. This resource will be backed up without using the Windows Change Journal." If I understood correctly this means Backup Exec has to use the catalogs instead of the NTFS change journal leading to a significant performance impact. Can anybody help me finding the reason for this issue?Solved3KViews0likes10CommentsVault Cache is stored in the local Administrator profile?
