Remove a Users Mailbox from Enterprise Vault Mailbox Archiving
How to Remote a User from Enterprise Vault (EV) mailbox Archiving Outlook for Windows I have had quite a few people ask to be removed from EV archiving for some reason or another. I recently had to spend a lot of time doing it and wanted to share with some people in hopes of making their job a little easier. It is a multi step process that must be carried out in order and will require the users interaction. Situation: A user in your environment needs to be removed from mailbox archiving and wants their Outlook to be like it was before EV was implented. The Fix: Export the users Archive to PST just in case something goes wrong. Use the export to PST option in Export Archive wizard. Basically, make a backup! Use the 'Export Archives to their original mailboxes' This will create duplicate items. The original message and the stub will exist. This action can re-create folders the user has deleted and will restore items to the original location when it was archived. You must make sure the mailbox in Exchange has enough room for growth as the mailbox will grow when you export the items from the mailbox back to the archive. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH35614 NOTE: This will also disable the users archive in EV. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH50905 This is the only way to do this. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/find-messages-or-items-with-a-search-folder-HA010354954.aspx See below for details on making the search folder. Use EVPM to Zap the EV properties from the user’s mailbox in Exchange. If EVPM wasn’t enough, remove the Hidden messages from the mailbox locally to clean up the Outlook mail client. (Optional, but I would do it to be through) EV might not delete the archive immediately. The server may be busy or waiting for another task to complete. Just follow up the next day. Create an Outlook search folder to locate all the mail stubs and delete them. Remove the user from the AD group that made them part of EV. Uninstall the Outlook plugin/add-on from the user’s mail client. Delete the user from EV. Optional: Skip step two and just delete the archive. Do the rest of the steps and give the user the PST you created in Step 1. Or you could open the PST data file in Outlook and drag the messages back into a folder on the OST (Users exchange mailbox). This will merge the PST archive back onto the Exchange database for that user (aka…their mailbox). Search Folder: Right Click “Search Folders” in the Navigation pane of Outlook. Choose “New Search Folder”. Give the search folder a name and choose the “Criteria”, then choose Advanced. The Field should be “Message Class” contains, Value= EnterpriseVault. Save your folder. This will find all the EV mail stubs in the users mailbox so you can delete them.4.4KViews1like5CommentsMessage Queuing - Unable to start service 'NetMsmqActivator'
Hi All, We are running exchange 2010/2003 mixed with Enterprise Vault. EV server is Server 2008 r2 x64 At present the message queuing is running of the OS drive C which I would ike to rellocate to an additional disk I have added to the server G:\ In G:\ I have created the following structure G:\ MSMQ\ Storage\ I initally followed the instructions on --> http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH53243(from another page with the same instructions until i realized these instructions do not apply to server 2008) I receieved the below --------------------------- Message Queuing --------------------------- Unable to start service 'NetMsmqActivator' Error: The dependency service or group failed to start. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- I then found this Windows 2008 Procedure: Assign MSMQ group permissions to the MSMQ storage location using the command line, this is not possible using the GUI. icacls 'MSMQStoragelocationpath' /grant "NT SERVICE\MSMQ":(F) Then carry out following tasks. 1. Take Message queuing offline within Server Manager 2. Take Message Queuing Service offline 3. Change the storage file path to desired location 4. Bring Message Queuing service online 5. Bring Message Queuing online within Server Manager 6. Validate Drive:\MSMQ\Storage location for newly created files (LQS folder and approx 5 other LG* files) ---------------------------------- If I run icacls 'MSMQStoragelocationpath' /grant "NT SERVICE\MSMQ":(F) I get the following C:\Users\svcEV>icacls 'MSMQStoragelocationpath' /grant "NT SERVICE\MSMQ":(F) 'MSMQStoragelocationpath': The system cannot find the file specified. Successfully processed 0 files; Failed processing 1 files Can someone please help me with clear and concise instructions to relocate the MSMQ storage for Server 2008 from C to G drive Thanks KrisSolved4KViews0likes4CommentsMigrate Exchange 2010 Archived Mailboxes to O365
One of our clients are migration their Exchange 2010 archived mailboxes to O365. The concern is that when the users are migrated, it will break the link (stub) between legacy EV and destination mailbox (on Exchange online)which will leave the users unable to access the historical data. Is there a way for users to have access to their legacyarchives while the mailbox is being migrated toO365? What are the migration options to maintain the stubb connection intact? Speaking to one 3rd party professional, he suggested that stubs loseconnection will depend how the users are migrated from Exch to O365. What method people follow to ensure continuity of legacy EV system? Any document to support the above discussion would be appreciated.Solved4KViews0likes10CommentsNeed to Change Vault Service Account Password....
Hi..., As we are using Enterprise Vault of version 10.0.3 and we added two Evservers in Single Evsite With Microsoft clustering with both EV & SQL for local failover in N+1 configuration. Now beacuse of password expiry policy VSA password will be expire after few days. So we want to know where we need to update the entery of new password in Ev application and cluster end?? Hello All, I will post this on SYMIQ in the AM but I wanted to see if you guys had some insight on this question.. Do we have any documentation that shows that the usage report is pulling from the ArchivePoint table (column ArchivedItemsSize) and not from the SavesetProperty table (column OriginalSize)? A customer of ours is convinced, partly to confirmation from the Symantec Engineer below, that the usage report is reporting on Uncompressed size and not compressed. While this is a rather detailed email, I am not sure that our usage report would report on inaccurate uncompressed size ratios, unless I am missing something. Can you guys comment on this? Here is the original email from our support tech… Subject: Re: Enterprise Vault Case 06838910 [ ref:_00D30jPy._50050Te8T2:ref ] Hello Ray, Shoeb let me know you would like a follow-up email for clarification. My apologies for any confusion with the example archive. It was a very conservative estimation between the actual size of the sample archive (what is reported in usage.asp) and the actual size of storage. I used a approximately 12% compression to give an example of the difference. Actual compression does vary. This will be a more accurate way to calculate Vault Store partition size (HOWTO99323) - NOTE: this is a Backup Exec tech note The size of a vault store partition depends on the following items: The size of the emails. The type of attachments. The number and size of the attachments. The number of emails with attachments. Note: If single instance storage is enabled, items are shared within and across vault stores and vault store partitions. Shareable parts of a message that exceed the single-instance threshold of 20 KB are shared. These parts include attachments and message bodies. User information and shareable parts under the single instance threshold are not shared. See About single instance storage of archived items. - (http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO99332) You can use the following calculations to approximate the disk space requirements of a vault store partition: The following values and variables are used in the formulas: • N is the number of emails. • m is the average number of identical copies of attachments across user mailboxes. • The compression factor for attachments is estimated as 60%. • If the attachments are mostly Office 2007 files, the compression factor to use is 90%. • The average number of emails that have attachments is estimated at 20%. • The average size of an email attachment is estimated at 250 KB. Approximate vault store partition size for which single instance storage is not enabled: (N x 16) + (N x 0.2 x 0.6 x 250) kilobytes Approximate vault store partition size for which single instance storage is enabled: (N x 16) + ((1/m) x (N x 0.2 x 0.6 x 250) kilobytes For example, you want to know the disk space requirements for a vault store partition for 100,000 emails. You estimate that each email attachment is shared across three people on average. If single instance storage of archived items is not enabled, the calculation for the disk space requirements is as follows: (100000 x 16) + (100000 x 0.2 x 0.6 x 250) kilobytes = 4.6 GB approximately If single instance storage is enabled, the calculation for the disk space requirements is as follows: (100000 x 16) + ((1/3) x 100000 x 0.2 x 0.6 x 250) kilobytes = 2.6 GB approximately Again, the Enterprise Vault Report, usage.asp, gives the total size in pre-compressed MB. Actual compression in your environment is approximately 50%. If usage.asp is reporting 100 MB, that is how much space would be needed to restore all items. Actual space for the EV Archives would be ~50 MB.Solved3.4KViews2likes3CommentsNeed official Symantec clarification on cryptic instructions to backup Vault 8.0
We recently upgraded our Vault environment to 8.0sp5 from 2007. I am trying to get the backup procedure to work properly but I need clarification from Symantec. We use Netbackup 7.x without the Vault Agent for Netbackup. This uses the bpstart and bpend batch files. The main areas I need clarification are: After running the powershell script to create the list of EV backup mode commands for my environment I am confused about which of the commands need to be called. The file is divided into Site, VaultStoreGroup, VaultStore, and SiteIndexLocations. Currently we have only one Vault server for email but soon we will have others for files and possibly Sharepoint. Which commands do I need to call and in what order to start backup mode and end backup mode? Our Vault partitions are on a back-end EMC Celerra (not to be confused with Centerra). We back those up via different means and thus need to use the IgnoreArchiveBitTrigger.txt file. Symantec recommends calling a simple "echo > {drive}:\vaultstores\vaultpartition\IgnoreArchiveBitTrigger.txt" during our backup routine to create the trigger file every time. Where should these commands go? In the bpstart file? In the bpend file? Where in the file? Before or After the Vault backup mode powershells? Since we aren't using the Netbacup Vault agent and we call our SQL backups via the bpstart entry to a third-party app (SQLSafe) are there any special commands I need to call in the database portion of the backup so that when it is complete it somehow let's Vault "know" that the SQL backup is complete? We run weekly fulls and daily diffs on the SQL and I get constant nags from Vault in the event logs that the databases haven't been backed up in X days. I am open to all clarifications. -Thanks -ASolved2.9KViews1like12Commentsunable to install Enterprise Vault Office MailApp
