Hi, We are still in the trial so trying to evaluate if the deduplicate option would be useful or not. From what I read, since we have remote offices, it could be really useful to save on bandwidth. We created a deduplication drive in BE15 and did some tests. We created 4x 8G files that we backuped once. The deduplication drive has 32G of data in it. We copied the 4 files on another server and tried to back them up. Miracle, the backup phase was very fast, practically no bandwidth was required as the client side deduplication worked like a charm and the deduplication drive stayed at 32 gigs since the files were already there. So this seemed amazing... But... During the verify phase, bandwidth was used between the BE15 server and the server being backed up. It caped our 60MBPS connexion but in Upload (traffic going from our BE15 TO the server being backed up)... Is this a normal behavior ? I don't see the point of saving the requirement of the download if we need to upload everything back to the server for verification. Both servers are Windows 2012 R2 with the BE agent on them. I guess I configured Something wrong but can't find anything Any help would be appreciated. ThanksSolved1.4KViews0likes10CommentsArchive Bit vs. Modified Date - what is difference?
I found this article: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/what-bettrer-archive-bit-or-modified-date-backups but was wondering if there was anything else to it. I notice that there is no longer a "copy" function (or i missed it). You used to be able to do a full backup "copy" mode where it ignored the archive bit - the "copy" backupbacked everything up regardless of bit, it ignored it on backing up, and it didnt flip it once the file was copied. I don't see that option anymore. Is there any difference between the two methods, other than described in that linked article? I'm inclined to continue using the archive bit as the one sentence from the link has me a little squeamish about using "Modified Date": "In case of files which are renamed, copied or whose attributes are changed, currently, you need to add these files manually in the backup job." maybe the archive bit ALSO isn't flipped for these procedures, but i think i'll still just use the archive bit. any thoughts or opinions?Solved3.3KViews0likes7Comments"Live" Job rate differs from "completed" job rate.
I have been trying to improve my job rate on backup jobs. In doing so, I have closely watched as they progress through. When the job is in progress, you can see the 'job rate' change dynamically. And I have seen that number go fro 2,500 MB /min to 10,500 MB /min. And crazy as it sounds, I have attached a screenshot where it reported 205,000 MB /min. My question is as follows: 1. Why does the 'Live' job rate show a job rate totally different than what is reported once the job completes and moves down to the 'Job history' section? 2. Why do some jobs take longer to kick off? I ask becasue my fastest 'job rate' as seen in attachment is 1,046 MB /min. But that took 7:17 minutes to complete. However, the same job earlier had reported a slower job rate of 954 MB /min but it completed in 6:34 minutes. Thanks...Solved757Views0likes4Comments- 1.1KViews0likes4Comments
Backup Exec 2010, 2014 & 15 Upgrade - Deduplication Option no longer licensed still broken...
This was first identified as a problem when doing an in-place upgrade of Backup Exec, from 2012 to 2014 (I expect itwill have beenan issue between 2010 and 2012 too, due to the similar code bases). This article describes the issue and gives the fix:https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/backup-exec-upgrade-2012-2014-deduplication-option-error Thisissue suggests a packaging bug for the product that hasn't been fixed for several generations of the product. Backup Exec is creating a registry sub key for PureDisk even if you do not sect the Deduplication Option to be installed. Any future, in place, upgrades of the product detect this key and assume you are using/trying to use an unlicensed feature. The fix given in the above (now locked) article still works.597Views3likes1Comment
