NetBackup KMS when appliance is master/media?
Hi, Master/media NB5230 v2.6.0.1, and FC to LTO6 drives in HP MSL 2024. I know how to setup and configure NetBackup KMS. At this point in time I'm not interested in MSEO. The Appliance v2.6.0.1 Admin Guide, on page 106, says: "The NetBackup appliance supports writing to the tape devices that are capable of SCSI T10 encryption to ensure that the tape media that is moved off-site is secure. Tape encryption requires configuration the NetBackup Key Management Service (KMS) feature. Note: The KMS feature is supported when the appliance is configured as a media server only in a NetBackup domain. A NetBackup master server appliance cannot administrate KMS. A non-appliance master server is required to administrate KMS with the devices that are connected to a NetBackup appliance." Obviously it is quite clear that: - NetBackup KMS on appliance master not supported (because it cannot see tape drives) - NetBackup KMS on appliance media supported (because it can see tape drives) But, can I infer that this is true: - NetBackup KMS on appliance master/media supported (because it can see tape drives) ...because the appliance (although acting as a master server) is also acting as a media server. However, this would conflict with '...is supported when the appliance is configured as a media server only...' And here grammar can get in the way - is NetBackup KMS supported on media appliances 'only' when in a NetBackup domain? If so, then is NetBackup KMS supported on master/media servers because the media server function is a member of a NetBackup domain, i.e. the master function on the same appliance? I wish the document made a statement regarding appliances that are 'master/media'. Thanks.Solved1.4KViews3likes3CommentsSNMP configuration for 5020-DeDupe appliance & 5220-MSDP

Does anyone have a walk through on enabling tape drive compression(NOT software compression)? I've been doing some research and it appears commands such as: sdparm - <device>, and sginfo -a displays the following information: Data compression (SSC) mode page: DCE 1 [cha: y, def: 1, sav: 1] DCC 1 [cha: n, def: 1, sav: 1] DDE 1 [cha: n, def: 1, sav: 1] RED 0 [cha: n, def: 0, sav: 0] COMPR_A 255 [cha: n, def:255, sav:255] DCOMPR_A 255 [cha: n, def:255, sav:255] I have 6 Netbackup 5200 and 5220s connected to an IBM3584 with 12 LTO4, 5, and 6 drives via FC. The library and drives are functioning however, I'm not getting no where near the data compression on the LTO6 tapes that I thought I would. I'm only seeing about 3.1TB on a LTO6 tape. Can someone explain the output above and what my settings should be. Thanks.Solved6.8KViews2likes7CommentsCommand Line Administration of netbackup appliance

I have several netbackup 5230's in a special network. And by special I mean I have to be able to tell the firewall team what ports and target i.p. addresses I want to access outside it. So does anyone have a handle on what Ip address these units contact for. 1. Software updates (manage > software > check, download) 2. Hi all, I am in need of confirmation or explanation on some logging I see in the detailed status. When I see this in the detailed status (for an Incremental backup): 04/15/2015 07:02:43 - Info bpbkar (pid=98149) accelerator sent 1115317760 bytes out of 5630247936 bytes to server, optimization 80.2% Does this mean the Accelerator has found5630247936 bytesof new/changed data on the clientof which1115317760 bytesis new data to the backup appliance?
