Differental Backups w/Modified Time does Full Backup
I recently switched our backups from using the archive bit to using the Modified time instead. The idea was that modified times are supposed to be faster than checking each archive bit. I've since run one Full backup using the Modified time settings, and now our differentials are all performing full backups each time they run. The Full and Differential jobs are both set to use time stamps(they are under the same parent job), but it seems like the Modified Time is being completely ignored. The files are stored on a Hitachi NAS unit and shared as CIFs folders. A Backup Exec agent cannot be installed on it.I recieve an error each time this unit is backed up due to this(full, incremental, or diff), though the files backup successfully. Backups are direct to tape via fiber channel. Can I not make use of modified times to backup this server, or do I need some additional configuration?Solved982Views3likes3CommentsDoes Backup Exec have a way to do Hierarchical storage management or Tiered storage?
Does Backup Exec 2014 have a way to do Hierarchical storage management or Tiered storage? I have a Dicom server that needs to archive files to a single storage space, that then needs to have the older files migrated to tape, while maintaining a stub file in the original location for the Dicom server to see and retrieve if necessary. Thank you, scrowSolved1KViews1like3CommentsArchiving and Backups
We are currently using Backup Exec 2010 R2 running differential backups 6days a week and a full backup on the 7th day. The full backup method is set to "full -copy the files" and the differential's and set to "Differential - Using modified time". The issue we are having is that we are using a 3rd party archiving solution which is set to archive and stubby last modify date but every time the full backup runs all the files are un-archived. Is there a way to skip files that have been set to "Files is ready for archiving" or some other way to stop this from happening? The backups were originally set to "Using archive bit (reset archive bit)" and I changed them tousing "modified time" for the full backups and all files were still un-archived. Any help would be greatly appreciated.795Views0likes3CommentsV-79-10000-11233 - VSS Snapshot error

Anybody could help me to disable symantec VSS provider to force backup exec to use Microsoft VSS instead !? I found some guides on the internet but nothing applicable. Hello Community I have got an Storage of 2 TB on a Windows 2012 Server. (Storage Pool, Parity, 1 Volume) My Exchange Server should be backed up there. But after the job finishes the verfiy job will never end. Same for the catalog job. It seems not able to finish the job correctly and fails after a while (22+ houres.) The exchange Server ist not big (around 140 Gb). With BE 2012 this worked fine. Please help me out here. Tipps allready done: Seperate Verify jobs Changed storage from GPT to MBR (Suggestion from Symantec) Delayed catalog not an Exchange backup updated Agent No matter what I change, the Verify or Catalog will fail. Runs around (0.03 MB per Minute. The Backup runs smoothly with 1400 MB/min) On my secound storage (Windows 2008 R2) the backup runs perfekt. Any help is welcome. Background: Running BE2012 1798.1244 OS 2008 We generally backup to disk and retain that information for 1-4 Weeks. After most B2D jobs complete a duplicate job kicks off and duplicates the data to tape to be retained for 1 or 7 years. My issue: My B2D sets are not all being overwritten or delted even after their retention time has ended. This causes the disk to fill up. If I try to forcefully delete these expired B2D backup setsfrom the backup sets section of the Administrative console it informs me that "Other backup sets depend on backup set snapshot ..". These dependent jobs are tape duplicate jobs that expire 1 or 7 years later. Why do my duplicate Tape jobs depend on the B2D jobs? Shouldn't they depend on other tape jobs? If I have a full and incremental on seperate tapes. Any suggestion would greatly be apreaciatted. Thanks, Nima458Views1like2CommentsI need Good plan for backing up server

With the BE archiving option, when data is stored in the partition, does it get put into a container (CAB) like it can be in Enterprise Vault? Or are the files left in the native EV format? What I'm trying to understand is if the archived data is compressed in anyway upon being archived. Something that Enterprise Vault could do (collections) but the option is not shown in any admin guides for BE.766Views1like4Comments
