Hi Team, Please I need your expert advise on this solution: Customer has proposed implementing backup solution via NFS; this solution is based on having the centralized server IPs & file path where to send the backups to. We currently have Symantec NetBackup 5230 Appliance installed in this customer datacenter. Question: Will NetBackup 5230 Appliance support mount points from network file systems (NFS). This will enable customer backup their network file system data to the central storage location, which is on the NBU appliance. Hi Support, Please I need your urgent assistance. I am setting up a new NetBackup environment with two NBU 5230 appliances. 1x5230 will serve as the Master/Media server and the other 1x5230 will serve as Media server. The customer provided a private network, where IPs of both appliances can ping each other. However, after successfully setting up the appliance "Master/Media" I also try to setup the 2nd appliance as "Media server" but I got the errors below: Could not check if master server 'mbunbuapp01' has any storage objects for storage server 'mutnbuapp01'. Could not find EMM server of master server 'mbunbuapp01' (48:client hostname could not be found). NB: After setting up the 1st appliance master/media server, I did added the FQHN of the Media server to be to Settings > NetBackup AdditionalServers Addmedia-server of the Master/Media, but I still got the errors above. Because of the above error, I have not been able to setup the 2nd appliance as "Media server" which is suppose to communicate with appliance "Master/Media server" I also notice ports 5900 and 7578 were not open on the Master/Media server, could this be responsible for the applaince Media server not communication with the Master server. I have a requirement whereby we are replacing 4 x 50x0 Puredisk Appliances with 4 x 5220 Appliances. The current config has all devices in the same Netbackup domain, even though 2 of the 50x0 appliances are in a remote location. Each pair of 50x0 appliances is presented as a single pool within Netbackup. We are implementing the new 5220 appliances in an AIR configuration - therefore there will be two distinct NBU domains (one production and one DR). The current master server will remain in the production site, with one of the 5220 appliances in DR acting as the Master server in the other NBU domain. My issue is in migrating the data from the current 50x0 appliances to the new 5220 appliances. In the production site the images can simply be duplicated from the 50x0's to the 5220's, as they are all in the same NBU domain. But when considering migrating the images from the remote 50x0's (which are part of the original production NBU domain) to the new 5220's in the new NBU domain - what are the best options here ? Hi We are trying to add a route to our existing appliance 5230, running at 2.6.0.3. This is configured in media server role. Currently this server is getting used for backup of only one client which contains Netezza DB. Now we want to use this appliance also for backup of few more clients and those clients are not reachable from this appliance. We recently deployed a 5220 appliance into our environment as it was to be the savior in our battle against a backup window we were no longer able to meet. When we finally got it online and into our NBU environment the initial performance was great. The area we were to most benefit was with VMware backups. The data stores mounted directly to the appliance would allow direct access to the snapshots for a fast and efficient backup. Before this, we were performing client side backups so the impact on the hosts every night was significant as we tried backing up 600+ vms. The plan was to be able to move all Dev and test off-host backups to the middle of the day as the performance impact was minimal and the end result was an increased window to complete things. As we started with noon-time backups deduplication rates were high and so were the speeds. However, this performance gain was short lived, as we began increasing the load we suddenly saw performance drop to a point of concern. Backups were no longer speedy, 3500KB per second to 10,000KB. There are some that might pop to 24,000KB, but in a sample size of 15 as I write this, only one is showing 24,000. Now, I do have a few ideas. 1. We have a 72TB appliance, therefore, 2 disk trays, during the backups, the one disk tray is going crazy, all the lights are flashing and you can really see that it is working. However, the second tray is doing nothing. While you might see a blink here or there, it is almost nothing compared to the other disk tray. Is this to be expected? When we looked at the disk configuration, it shows concat, is this normal? 2. Too much data at once and we are simply burying the appliance. In reality, what sort of performance should I be able to expect from the appliance? 3. Relating to number 2, since we only have the one appliance right now while we wait to get the remote appliance in place, we are duping off to tape. This is running at the same time as a backup, so this means at the same time the appliance is writing a lot of data, it is also reading it back to tape. 4. We are overloading the data store so that read speed is bad from source to destination. We have fewer hosts,therefore, if we limit the jobs per host we limit the number of machines backing up at once (obviously). This means that backups take way long, so we removed the limit per host and just set a limit per data store. As we are new to it all, I am not sure what impact where, but again, I am trying to list any and all ideas from the start. 5. The appliance does not support multi-pathing, therefore, we only have a single path to the disk. Beyond that I am not sure, but this is something that doesnt help with the showcasing of the appliances to management at the moment. When configuring a 5220 (2.0.2 code level) today I came accross a couple of issues when configuring the network. By default, I plugged the laptop into eth0, attached via browser to 192.168.1.1, and started the initial configuration. My aim was to achieve the following: eth0 - 192.168.71.4 eth2 & eth3 - bonded in failover mode - 192.168.72.1 When I tried to configure the bonded set I could only select all of the remaining nic's (eth1 thru eth5) from the dropdown. I wanted to select just eth2 & eth3. I went ahead and selected all of the remaining nic's and selected balance-alb for the bonding mode. I then wanted to change the IP address on eth0. I attached the laptop to eth1 (now on the 192.168.72.1 address) and went into an SSH session. I could not see how to change the address on eth0. I managed to unconfigure eth0, and it now has no IP address associated with it. However, I canot see what command to use to enable this again with a specific IP address....... At present the situation is that eth0 has no address (I want it configured on it's own with an IP address) and eth1 thru eth5 are bonded in balance-alb mode with a single IP address (and I want just eth2 ð3 bonded in a failover mode with a single IP address). I have a second appliance to configure in the morning, as well as this one to correct, so any help appreciated. Hi Support, Kindly advice me because I'm a bit confused. I am about to configure AIR between two NetBackup domains, domainA has 1xNBU5230 plus 1x5030 disk shelf, anddomainBhas 1xNBU5230 plus 1x5030 disk shelf. Also both NetBackup domain will be backing up clients seperately, however customer still wants image-data replicated to the target or secondary domain. My question is how can I then configure AIR btw these domains, since each NBU domain isbacking upclients data tothe MSDP pool which is suppose to be used for AIR configuration. Hello there!! Does anybody know if I can upgrade a NetBackup Appliance 5230 configured as master server from 2.6.1 to 2.7.1? Or if I can have a NetBackup Appliance 5230 configured as master server with version 2.7.1? I try to find the information in SORT, but I don't realle understand if a 5230 master server can have 2.7.1 or not: "NetBackup 5200 Series Appliances running 2.x or later can be used as back-level media servers in a NetBackup 7.7.x configuration. NetBackup Appliance and NetBackup versions will resynchronize in future releases." And one more question, does anybody know how can I determine if I need to use a 4 Tb or a 14 Tb master server? Hello I will be setting up soon brand new appliance NBU5230 in mine environment and need some advice from users who already do play with that appliance. Currently I am using one master/media server running on Windows 2008 R2 with 3 different networks. So to each of three NICs are assigned such IPs: NIC1 10.1.1.122/24 hostname - nbumaster in production network, providing default gateway NIC2 10.1.2.122/24 hostname - nbumasterbck in backup network, no gateway in it NIC3 10.1.3.122/24 hostname - nbumasterbck2 in second backup network, no gateway in it Default GW for this box is 10.1.1.1 so in production network. Several clients are spread across these three networks. All clients do have network leg in production network. In addition some of those clients do have yet another network leg in the backup or second backup network. Now depends in which backup network client has a leg, its pointing either to nbumasterbck or nbumasterbck2 - as a master server! So all backup traffic is going over that dedicated network, without travelling via default GW as client and NBU server is in the subnet. Some clients do not have NIC in any backup network so these do point to nbumaster server. Now I am willing to add to this env NBU 5230 appliance with 40TB of storage (I am planning to have 4TB in advance disk pool, and 36 TB in the PureDisk disk pool) as media server to above existing NBU domain. From master server I will be withdrawing the media server functionality. In ours DC there is no 10Gbit yet. As I understand the documentation of NBU5230 there are 3 ethernet 1Gbit ports available (NIC2/NIC3/NIC4 from below picture) Now question: Shall I configure those three NICs of NBU appliance to mimic the current master/media server network configuration, ie: NIC2 10.1.1.125/24 hostname - nbumedia in production network, providing default gateway NIC3 10.1.2.125/24 hostname - nbumediabck in backup network, no gateway in it NIC4 10.1.3.125/24 hostname - nbumediabck2 in second backup network, no gateway in it Or it would be better to set these three NICs one logical using some bonding techniques - so only one IP address in the production network??
