"Measuring Front-end Terabyte" in NetBackup
Hi, I have NetBackup environment and would like to perform license conversion from traditional into capacity based licensing. I understand that only source, protected data by NetBackup or "current largest full or syntetic backup" should be calculated as "Front End TBs" as per "NetBackup Licensing and Protection Services" guide. Also, capacity growth for next years should be predicted into capacity calculations. My questions is, how to measure "Front End TBs" capacity for NetBackup clients where "data archiving" is performed for unlimited time period? 1. It is again "current largest" full backup or 2. Hi, I don't ofter post, but i wanted to share my concerns over the limitations on the licensing model the Capacity Editions versions. Having previously been on BE 2014 SBS, Upon renewing my support , the distributer decided to Cross Grade my license to the new 2015 Capacity Edition Lite License. ( As SBS is not available) After a lot of phone calls, a Poor Licensing Document from Symantec ( Tech229205 ), and finally a tech support case, I can now share the following. Lets assumeyou have a 1TB License Day Backup Job Uncompressed Data Cumulative amount of data backed up 0 - Install BE 2015 0TB 1 Full Backup 750GB 750GB 2 Partial Backup 100GB 850GB 3 Partial Backup 100GB 950GB 4 Partial Backup 100GB 1050GB - JOB FAILS 5 Partial Backup 100GB 1050GB - JOB FAILS 6 Partial Backup 100GB 1050GB - JOB FAILS So the 1TB Capacity limit applies to the Cumulative amount of data that bas been backed-up, and NOT as I thought to the JOB Size ---------- My Question to Technical support---------------------- Please confirm the situation in the following example ( the table above) is correct --------------- official response from technical support-------- Yes you are correct as per the abovescenario which you have mention is correct Note: Backup exec Capacity edition will work based on the uncompressed front-end data of the server , once it crosses 1TB data the backup wouldn't get through The calculation is made on 30 days calculation on successful full backups Full backup are considered on capacity calculation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I Hope this helps someone else. i have a Netbackup 6.5.4 Master/Media/Emm installed on SUN ultra 25, Solaris 5.10 having 6.5.4 BMR Master Server for LINUX and WINDOWS. Now i want to do backup of virtual machines running ESX 3.5. i was reading a doucment that i should have a Proxy Server VCB. can someone tell me, if i use BMR Master Server Windows 2003 X64 as a Proxy Server. would it works ? or i have to configure a separate machine for Proxy Server ?Solved5KViews0likes10Comments

Hi All, I need a solution regarding NFS Backup as per below mentioned environment details. our customer is have some of there files on NFS mount point on LINUX server, on the same server they want to install NetBackup Master server and attached tape drive on the same server as well. Hi Support, Please I need your urgent assistance. I am setting up a new NetBackup environment with two NBU 5230 appliances. 1x5230 will serve as the Master/Media server and the other 1x5230 will serve as Media server. The customer provided a private network, where IPs of both appliances can ping each other. However, after successfully setting up the appliance "Master/Media" I also try to setup the 2nd appliance as "Media server" but I got the errors below: Could not check if master server 'mbunbuapp01' has any storage objects for storage server 'mutnbuapp01'. Could not find EMM server of master server 'mbunbuapp01' (48:client hostname could not be found). NB: After setting up the 1st appliance master/media server, I did added the FQHN of the Media server to be to Settings > NetBackup AdditionalServers Addmedia-server of the Master/Media, but I still got the errors above. Because of the above error, I have not been able to setup the 2nd appliance as "Media server" which is suppose to communicate with appliance "Master/Media server" I also notice ports 5900 and 7578 were not open on the Master/Media server, could this be responsible for the applaince Media server not communication with the Master server.
