All of a sudden, Backup Exec 2012 is not running most of my jobs. The job status stays at"Ready; No idle devices are available" It ran 2 of the backups but I'm not sure why it didn't run the others. I have 2 drives, but it would only use one at a time. Both initially have a status of 'Online.' When I was able to get one of my backup jobs running, it would load into one drive, that status would change to 'Active.' Then, if I try to run another job, the other drive will change to 'Active' for a moment, then go back to 'Online' and the job status goes to"Ready; No idle devices are available" These are the things I've tried: Shutting down and restarting the server and the backup device Restarting the Backup Exec services Pausing and unpausing the backup drives What else can I try?8.6KViews1like6CommentsJob fails each time - Error e000fe30 - A communications failure has occurred
Hello, I get the following link when I try to run a backup job that has never run successfully: V-79-57344-65072. I have an agent running on one server running WS 2008 r2, and the BE server is running Windows 2012. The storage unit is a NAS. The BE server is also a file server and it runs like clockwork to the same NAS with no failures. However, the agent running on another server (it's a fax server) has never successfully backed up even a single bit of data; it errors out each time. I've ensured that the agent has local admin access to both the BE server and the local server where it's running, and the NAS allows the same user read/write access (it's actually open to anyone). The server running the BE agent can open and write to the NAS's file share. It can telnet on port 10000 to the BE server and vice-versa. What else can I cover? I tried disabling IPv6 but it still fails each time.Solved8.6KViews1like10CommentsBackup Exec 12 error V-79-57344-34029

I have an older system running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise and Symantec Backup Exec 10d. The internal tape drive (Dell DLT-VS160) has gone bad. Ihave connectedan external tape drive (Dell PowerVault 110T) to the SCSI connection on the back of the server. However, Backup Exec does not yet "see" this new tape drive. Wht must I do so that the system and Backup Exec see this tape drive and so that Backup Exec can use it? Thanks for the help.Solved8.1KViews1like7CommentsBackup Exec is ejecting a tape when it shouldn't...
Hi guys, Backup Exec 2012 (patched to date). Windows 2003 SBS SP2 Single HP Ultrium 3 internal SAS tape drive. LastFriday I inserted a brand new tape intothe backuprotation. For this I simply put the new tape in the drive and ran a label job on it. This puts the tape, as you probably already know, into the scratch media pool. Saturday morning I discovered I had received repeated emails, from BENT, asking me to remove the media. I connected to the server and noticed that the Friday night backup job was still running, with 0KB written to the tape, and a remove media alert was visible in BENT. When I checked the properties of the brand new tape in the drive I noticed it had been allocated to one of my backup media pools that are set to overwrite protect the backup data for a set period of time. However, it appears BENT had done this to the tape before it had run the backup; thereby preventing itself from overwriting the blank tape (this mishandling of the media pool allocation is a separate issue I am still dealing with on a Symantec support case)!? So, to get the backup job running again I thought, all I have to do is cancel the backup job, reallocate the tape back to the scratch pool and rerun the job. So, I ignored the media remove request and cancelled the job. Only to find that BENT had ejected the tape anyway!? Surely, this is a fault in the logic of BENT. The tape should not be ejected until after the operator acknowledges the media removal alert. The backup job hasn't been set up to eject the tape on completion and I didn't acknowledge the media removal request, so BENT has abug (faulty logic)whereby the tape is still ejected, in this scenario. In this instance, I had to ask my client to go into their office, on a weekend, so they can push the tape back into the drive. Whereby I moved the tape back into the scratch pool and kicked the job off again, which completed without further errors. What should happen, when a tape that is overwrite protected and a backup job is trying to overwrite the tape is as follows: 1. A media removal alert is generated. 2. The operator is given the opportunity to check the backup job's settings and the state of the media in the drive and take actions to remediate the problem. In my case, this was to cancel the backup job, reallocate the blank tape to the scratch pool and then kick the backup job off again. However, I was precluded from doing this because BENT had already shosen to eject the tape. 3. Ifmy chosen course of actionwas to swap the media then, and only then,Backup Exec shouldeject the tape if I acknowledge the media removal alert. As far as I can see this is a fundamental flaw in the logic of the product that precludes it from being suitable for use at sites that have a single tape backup unit where backups need to be managed unattended. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers, David7.8KViews3likes38CommentsDifferences in Catalog and Inventory
I am new to using Backup Exec and I'm trying to understand the differences in catalog and inventory. I inserted new tapes into a tape library and ran an inventory job. This showed all my media and under media description it shows "blank media". When would you run a catalog job? What are they used for? Is it necessary to run when new media is inserted? Hello, I receive an error every time I try to configure an Amazon S3 bucket as a storage device I get the error: BEMSDK Failure Code: A0009B23. I am running on server 2012 R2, using Backup Exec 15 FP1. I have gone through and installed the latest update that hot fixed this connection issue with S3. I have followed the how to doc for connecting S3 as a storage device. I have disabled the firewall to see if that was the issue. I created a user specified account in AWS to try accessing the S3 buckets. I tried my admin credentials as well and am still unable to connect, receiving the same error. I have looked online as well as this forum to see if there is a solution but have found none. I am wondering if anyone has had the same problem and if so has come up with or found a solution. Thank you!Solved6.6KViews0likes13Comments
