One week to go till the next OpenStack Summit. I am looking forward to meeting with customers, partners and colleagues and, of course, learn about many things OpenStack from all of them. Attending the keynotes and breakout sessions and visiting the sponsor booths in the marketplace will certainly provide a lot of learning opportunities. When it comes to deploying their critical workloads on OpenStack environments a key aspect that enterprises must address is ensuring that the application has adequate resources available to execute well and meet its performance SLAs. Of course, Nova scheduling and placement already helps address this by taking required and available memory, storage and CPU cores into account. But while it also takes account of available disk space and concurrent IOPs it does not consider the underlying storage hardware that provides the IO capacity or the burstiness that certain workloads may present.Veritas at OpenStack Summit Barcelona – An Event to Remember
What a great event we had last week in Spain. There were keynotes, sessions, meetings with customers, partners and analysts and of course, not nearly enough hours in the day to enjoy it all. Even Mother Nature appeared to be smiling upon us with pretty mild weather most days. I enjoyed soaking in the community vibe and meeting colleagues from around the globe. We had a significant team attending (you can see some of them here at our booth in the Marketplace) who presented various technical talks and helped showcase Veritas Access and HyperScale for OpenStack. In my discussions with customers, our ability to provide storage quality of service (QoS) to support application performance needs certainly resonated strongly, as did the ability to provide data protection, or backup. Motivated by a range of competitive, business and technical reasons, a growing number of organizations are adopting OpenStack. Often cited reasons include agility, flexibility, operational efficiency and avoiding vendor lock-in. According to the last OpenStack User Survey “save money over alternative infrastructure choices” was the number 1 priority driver for the most respondents (66%, more than 3 times the next one “increase operational efficiency” at 21%).
