How to configure Netbackup Liveupdate
NetBackup LiveUpdate provides a cross-platform, policy-driven method to distribute NetBackup Release Updates and Hotfix downloads to NetBackup hosts at version 6.5 and later. While configuring a new liveupdate server I faced few challenges and found guide related to it is not upto the mark. Hence decided to write down and article and explain various steps to novices like me.
Backup Exec 2012 and RALUS versions
In order to ensure what version of RALUS (remote agent for linux servers) is currently installed on Linux server run the following command: cat /var/VRTSralus/ralus.ver The result of the command will show the RALUS version in the first line in the following format: ralus=XYZBackup Exec 2010 R3 and RALUS versions

Symantec, like any other software manufacturer, regularily releases enhancements, patches, software hotfixes and service packs for Backup Exec. While they'll probably recommend they be installed, how should you, and WHEN should you install them? There are 2 possible trains of thought on this... 1. Install only when necessary!
