Former Ghost 15 user - Getting trapped in the SSR 2013 Trial
A few days ago I had an issue with doing a system restore using Ghost 15. I went to that forum for help and learned that Symantec was going to discontinue Ghost and recommended users "check out" SSR 2013 with its free trial. I downloaded the free trial and eventually learned it would not install unless I first remove Ghost. That wasn't from anything that I saw when the SSR installation failed; that happened without any additional information. However, I did eventually find my way to this forum and a helpful Guru pointed out the issue and also that I could always re-install Ghost if I wasn't happy with SSR. I uninstalled Ghost, installed SSR, and started backing stuff up. Now, if one of the things you want to do is a full system restore (my primary interest)then you need a recovery disk. SSR will make a recovery disk for you and all you need to do is provide an activation key which you don't get with the trial version. No problem, as all I need to do is install Ghost. But I can't install Ghost until I uninstall SSR. And SSR WILL NOT UNINSTALL. Whenever I try to uninstall it there's an Error 2738 and something about a VBasic error. So now I have a trial verision of a program that I can't use and a paid for program I can no longer load. I guess it can all be fixed if I pay Symantec for an activation key for a program that I'm not sure I want in the hopes it will maybe allow me to upgrade to a latter version that can uninstall so I can install the program I uninstalled so I could evaluate the Free Trial. To put it another way, I may have to pay Symantec to I can remove their free software and load back the software I paid them for as well. And, even it it turns out there's a simple, and hopefully less expensive, way out of this I've still wasted a lot of time on what should be a free trial of a comercial product which appears to be more of an alpha test. (If I sound upset, it's because I really am)2.4KViews3likes12CommentsCustom SQL Query for generating Backup Status by a date ranges
I'm new to SSR 2013 about a month or so but have become pretty familiar with setting up and configuring it and rehabiliting clients. My management is asking for a backup status report for a specific date range. I was surprised to find out that the reporting features doesn't include any such report. I'm not familiar or well versed with creating and customizing SQL queries and the option to create new reports isn't very user friendly. I contacted Techncial Support and the tech working with me told me there are only the built-in reports. I was wondering if someone has created a similar SQL query that they could share?Solved1.4KViews2likes9CommentsLimit email notifications to success or fail
We've in the process of migrating our client base to Symantec BE SR 2010 from Acronis (...there lies a tale of woe), as part of the services we provide we monitor backups and have the backup software email us with the results of the nightly backup. All we want is an email that states that the backup succeded(possibly with errors)or failed (as in completly failed to backup), so just one email form each installation of Symantec BE SR, currently were not monitoring that many sites with Symantec but already this amounts to over 150 emails a day from symantec alone where Acronis would have been a fraction of that! We've played around with the settings but cant seem to distil this down to a simple pass or fail, as were new to the product I'm hoping its user error. Can anyone pointus in the right direct as to what email notification settings we should be using?Solved1.9KViews2likes13CommentsBackup error details in Management Console

Hello. I have several 2003R2 servers that I'm looking to backup with SSR 2013R2 Server. I have one main server that contains SSR and have installed the agent to multiple servers on the network with no issues being able to comunicate back and forth to them. I'm having an issue with one of them though. It's our DR domain controller server. I'm able to deploy the agent to the server with no issues. After the server reboots, I can no longer connect via SSR. I can see it in the list of computers and it shows the agent is installed in SSR computer search but I can't do anything else with it. Any ideas?? Thanks792Views1like3Commentsrestore hard drives

Hi all, I have come across a strange problem on a new installation of Symantec System Recovery 2011, Desktop Edition. The OS is Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit. Other software that is installed and might be relevant is Symantec End Point client. Problem: SMTP email notifications are not being sent out, UNLESS the job in question is the weekly full backup. For daily incremental jobs, it promptly sends out the “Job started ” notification but no emailalert when the job is completed. However, for the full backups, email notification is sent out on both job start and job complete status. Incremental jobs start and finish in approximately 5 min while the full backup takes about 45 minutes. To me, it looks like that for some strange reasons, the program is unable to send out more than one email; within a very short time interval. I know that there is an option in Backup Exec 12.0, “Notify me a maximum of x times within x minutes” but of course I have never seen a similar one in SSR. Am I missing something here? After install SSR2013 x64 on a win7 pro x64 machine, it got aEventID: 24620,"Encrypted volume check: Volume information oncannot be read". Usually the error message should include the failed volume name such as "Encrypted volume check: Volume information on\\?\Volume{493b7b29-3c88-4a67-ba13-bac8bbfcbf78}cannot be read" but this one missing that, also there is NO drive have bitlocker enable. I've just downloaded the SSR 2013 trial and want to create a bootable recovery disk. From what I can tell from the unavailable user guide and sparse help file, I need the to have a SSR disk or SSR recovery .iso in hand and neither was provided with the trial. Is there a way to proceed without them?3.3KViews1like31CommentsUnable to create incremental recovery point.
