NIC Teaming Slow Throughput, any ideas?
Hey guys, We currently have 2Gig set up through NIC teaming for our backup exec setup. When we have backups running, it barely reaches 35-40% of the bandwith. I am using Backup Exec 2010. Has anyone else here set up NIC teaming before? What are some things that might cause slow performance? Are there any specific settings in Backup Exec that may help? Thanks!5.2KViews3likes9CommentsPlease insert overwritable media into the robotic library in SAN SSO setup
Hi, I have a setup that is using the Shared Storage Option and started having problems with the B2T that is asking me to insert overwritable media when the jobs on both media servers have been configured with the option "Append to media, overwrite if no appendable media is available". The setup is as follows: 2x Backup Servers running Backup Exec 2010 R3 on Windows 2008 R2 (BK1 - Primary SSOand BK2 - Secondary SSO) 1x HP MSL2024 The media servers are configured to backup 6 servers each with each server having its own deciated job. The backups are done as B2D and then B2T. The backup servers themselves are also backed up through a seperate backup job and they are backed directly to tape. The issue I am having is a bit random but normally the first job (Backup server to tape) runs succesfull, but then the second or thirdjob is queued and prompts to insert ovewritable media. All the jobs are confirgured as "Append to media, overwrite if no appendable media is available" so why is the second job asking to insert ovewritable media. I get this every so often on a NDMP job. The event viewer on the media server shows "The job failed with the following error: The NDMP subsystem reports that a request cannot be processed because it is in the wrong state to service the request." With the job erroring out with "V-79-57344-65072 - A communications failure has occurred. Remote Agent not detected on netappclusterdevice:10000. " I read this article http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH56435 but states to update the agent, this is a NetApp Cluster with OnTap 8.2.2 so there is no agent. Yes, we currently backing up a cluster, with 95% success. We do have issues with this error being one. Of course it won't detect a remote agent as it is a NDMP device. but if I had to guess it isn't detecting NDMP at all at that point right? also, if I just re-run the job it usually runs fine. I believe it usually happens when 4 NDMP jobs are running at once. Anybody else experience anythig like this? just chekcing before I talk to india......lol1.1KViews0likes7CommentsD2D2T through SAN
The scenario desired is this: - Backup Exec Media Server installed within Virtual Machine (VMWare) - SAN Storage used as Backup Target (LUNs) - Tape library connected to SAN fro tape out Is there a way to set this up somehow by presenting both SAN and tape library to the BE MEdia Server and the effectively setup D2D2T with direct tape out from the SAN?Solved1.1KViews0likes3CommentsNeed advice on disk storage hardware
Hello everyone: Just looking for advice on disk storage hardware for using BackupExec 2012. We have a HyperV virutalized Windows Server 2008 R2 running BackupExec 2012. We currently run deduplicated backups onto a local 2TB hard drive. We want to expand this by using something like a NAS deivce via iSCSI (like a Netgear ReadyNAS or a Drobo) but not really sure what the best way or method would be. Our weekend full backups amount to approximately 500GB but we want to retain this for 12 months (thus need to expand our storage). We have maxxed out the space available on our server so we can no longer add disks. Second part of my question is how can we keep a backup copy of our disk based backups for redudancy purposes? I've read and heard of duplicaing backup jobs onto tape but our weekend window for backups is also maxxed out and runs into early Monday morning already. We are a non-profit organization with limited resources and finances so the most cost efficient solution would be ideal. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Hi there, We have Backup Exec 2010. I want to backup VMDK, but not enough free space in vDisk. Backup method, before storage, and then carries the BE server's disk. I just want to back up to the BE server disk. What can I do. Thanks, Merhaba, Bizim bir Backup Exec 2010 var. Ben VMDK yedekleme istiyorum, fakat vdisk içinde yeterli boş alan yok. Yedekleme metodu, önce storage, sonra BE server diske taşımaktadır. Ben sadece BE sunucu diskine yedeklemek istiyorum. Ne yapabilirim. I have below environment, of the running system Application: Microsoft Dynamic CRM 2011 SQL Server: Cluster Database 2012 on SAN storage O/System: Windows Server 2012 R2 standard 2 node cluster Backup Exec: 2012 with SP4 (Only one server) Problem: Backup Exec 2012, SQL Server 2012 Database drive & Log drive of SAN storage are not visible. So I am not able to take backup. Action: Create new “srvbackup” account equal to domain admin, Login backup exec server with srvbackup. In backup exec create login account with srvbackup push the agent to sql database servers In backup exec Setting -> Network and Security -> Enable TCP dynamic port 10001 – 10050 Login to both servers open backup agent utility give ip in publish tab and add srvbackup account and password SQL Management Utility assign role to srvbackup user (1) dbcreator (2) securityadmin (3) serveradmin (4) sysadmin Note: All this above exercise SQL database drive & Log drive of SAN storage is not visible.506Views0likes1CommentThe job failed with the following error: The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Agent for Windows. The correct version of the Agent for Windows must be running on the target computer.
I am gettting this error when trying to back up File shares (CIFS) from my EMC VNX san. "The job failed with the following error: The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Agent for Windows. The correct version of the Agent for Windows must be running on the target computer." I'v gotten this error before and it goes away and my back ups start to run fine but I have never been able to figure out the cause. I am backing these up as file shares and I have already enabled " Selection of user shares" . Its been about 3 months since I had this problem and I was never able to determine the solution it always fix's it self. I can telent to port 12000 which I have set as the TCP dynamic port range. I even tested ports 10000, 6101 and 6107 and all were open. I rebooted the server and even the services. Not sure why it would give me this error when there isn't even an agent loaded on the SAN. Any idea what causes this or how to resolve/prevent it?687Views1like2CommentsTape library sharing between NetApp NAS and media server
I am working on a backup topology design. The customer has one NetApp SAN/NAS with FC tape out port, and one HP MSL tape library with two FC LTO5 drives. They willhave a BE 2010 or BE 2012 media server with FC port, and several Hyper-Vwith FC ports. All FC ports connects to the SAN switch. The question is that is it possible to use one tape library to backup NAS using NDMP, as well backup those Hyper-V LAN-free? If yes, what license do they need? I know if using NBU, theyjust need a SSO. How about for BE? Any difference if use BE 2010 or BE 2012? Thanks, Henry1.7KViews0likes8CommentsI need Good plan for backing up server
