Best solution to back up Citrix Xen Server
Hello, I am wondering what the best solution would be for the following: I have on Citrix Xen Server host that has 7 virtual machines on it. I am currently using PHD Virtual to back this up to a NAS. I am looking to move to different software for the backups. One of the virtual machines is running SQL and one is running AD and DNS. There is also one physical server that has AD, DNS, and DHCP on it that i would also like to back up in the same solution. What i was curious about is what is the best way to back all of this up? Is it Back Up Exec or System Restore? Or would neither work? I am looking for something that will back up to the existng NAS and allow for item level restores as well as fast restores of full VM's if ever needed. Second question is, assuming one of the two products will work is it best practice to install it on its own server or could it be installed on teh physical that is existing with AD, DNS and DHCP? I am assuming its own server and that is what i would shoot for, but for the sake of saving money i like to know my options. Thank you for your assistance.Solved3.6KViews0likes4Commentsbooting from a cloned hard on a laptop
Hi, I cloned a linux CentOS hard drive of a server PC which included a LVM. Then I connected my external hard to the usb port of my laptop. I wanted to boot my laptop from the CentOS of external hard so i could use the programs which were installed on PC.So I restarted the laptop and press F11 button to select the desired OS. I am a user of Symantec System Recovery 2011 Linux Edition. I know that it doesn't support Redhat Enterprise Linux 5.8 yet but it's all I have and use. Backing up has no problem. However, I couldn't create recovery disk with the iso file of Redhat 5.8. It says "Iso file name not found in supported iso list. Checking for a match using MD5 sum" I understand why it is, but is there any way to avoid checking version or md5 hash to create disk? or any other way to create recovery disk? Updates is coming soon? Redhat 5.8 was relased in February 2012. 4 months passed.Solved678Views1like3CommentsLinux CENTOS compatibility with SSR 2011 Linux Edition.
Hello Guys, I have never really used Linux. I just installed the Red Hat Enterprise 5.2 in order to have a view of the interface and learn how to navigate. I have installed SSR 2011 Linux edition. A client has Linux CENTOS 5 and is about to purchase SSR 2011 Linux edition. I found out that the CENTOS is a flavor of RedHat. I need to know if the SSR 2011 will work and if there are any differences between the CENTOS and the Red Hat i installed. thanx.673Views0likes8CommentsSymantec Backup Exec 12.5 for Windows Server and Debian Linux with Linux Kernel 3.0 AMD64Bit Client problems
We use ymantec Backup Exec 12.5 for Windows Server inclusive Linux Client License. The Linux client works fine but now we have a Debian Linux with Linux Kernel 3.0 AMD64Bit where the client doesn't work. Is there an update for the client somewhere? Any other solution (CentOS 64 Bit Linux seems to work)? Greetings and thanks AAG968Views1like5CommentsPlease help backup exec for Linux system

Please help me thanks allSolved1.2KViews0likes9Commentsusing rhel5 SRD, some linux beginner help please.
Hi All, My first post here. Please be gentle. I have not used any linux backup/recovery tools before, but I have been trialing Symantec's System Recovery 2011. I have a few questions and would appreciate a little help please. 1. Created a new VM, then used the customSRD I created (following Symantec's Instructions). However, when I try to take the next step and use the "besr" command I just get "command not found". Surely I do not have to manually install Backup Exec System Recovery Tool on the new target machine? Do I? Shouldn't this be included in the SRD already? Just for clarification. The besr tool was already installed on the source machine and had been used to create a backup of one LVM with no problems. 2. I would like some clarification on a setup using mutiple disks and LVMs. Do I have to take a separate backup of each LVM rather than use some "magic" option that said "Backup the whole system". I think I know the answer, but worth a try. Assuming a simple example. I have 5 LVMs on the source machine, each using 20GB. On the target VM machine I create one disk of 100GB. If I have 5 v2i files for each of the source LVMs how do I restore these when there would be no target LVMs setup? I am really hoping I do not have to manually start creating disk partitions and/or LVMs (this would be pushing my linux skills over the top). Thanks a lot for any help. Hello I´m using Backup Exec 12.5 with latest updates an RDX backup disk. The server is an HP DL360 tower and the operating system is windows 2008 SBS. The Backup time of the D: partition with a capacity of 90 GB needs 2:45 horus. The check of the the same patition neets 4 hours. Are there some possibility´s to optimize the backup and check time? Because I start the backup at 22:00 and most time the whole backup (C: D: systemstate, information store) ends ab 08:00. Thanks422Views0likes1Comment
