BE 2012 - After migration, storage pools but no storage devices
Migrated our BE 2012 server using the steps in the article below. We moved from a Win2K8 R2 Enterprise OS to Win2K8 R2Standard OS for licensing reasons. Everything seemed to migrate successfully except for the storage devices which are simply network drives/shares. In the BE console on the new BE server, the storage pools, that were on the old BE server, are there and the properties of the storage pools show the related storage devices. The problem is that the storage devices do not show up as individual devices on the storage tab of the BE console, so I cannot edit the properties or even use them with the migrated backup jobs. I tried renaming the old BE server and taking it offline, then renaming the new BE server to the old BE server name, but I could not log into BE using the old or new name after that. I put the new name back into place so now I'm back at square one again. I thought about just configuring new storage devices with new names but I'm concerned about how that will affect my ability to restore existing backed up data that is on these drives. Ideally, I would like to get some help on how I can get this migrated BE server to recognize the storage devices again. https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH129826.html Thank You, RA914Views0likes3CommentsThe job failed with the following error

I have a large disk storage that I do my backup to disk on then from there, backup to tape. I have an expiration date of 5 days. Question, what program does this cleanup and why does it work sometime and not other times?? Also, is there a place that you can set this program to run (specific date)? Thanks much CathySolved2.3KViews1like9CommentsBackup Exec log files 38GB
We've had an issue with our server due to lack of free space. We've examined the contents of the drive and "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Logs\" is taking up 38GB of space. Can you tell me why it would take up this much space please? More importantly how do i cap it at say 10GB? We are using Backup Exec 2010 R3 on a windows 2007 sbs server. All our backups are backup to disk folders on removable drives and we backup also backup exchange and SQL. Thanks, your help is appreciated ThanksSolved12KViews1like4CommentsBackup Exec job design duplicate jobs
Hi everyone, In the last 10 years I used different Backup Exec Version up to BE 2010 R3. Now I am in a new Backup Project with Backup Exec 15 and I'm a bit shocked about the changes of the version form 2010R3 to 15... What I need to do is simple: I want to backup 20 virtual machines (virtual-based backup) to disk and then duplicate to tape with 3 different media sets (weekly, monthly, yearly). Do I really need to design 3 Backup Definitions for that? Because it seams that I can't define different duplicate jobs in one stage of the same Backup definition... The most stupid thing is, if I really need to define 3 backup definitions for that, I need to re-select the 20machines manually 3 times because it does not keep the vm selections if I select the option "Create a New Backup Using Settings from existing Backup". How are you guys doing this? Thanks for your advices! Best regards,Solved3KViews0likes5CommentsA failure occurred querying the Writer status.
Dear all, Since some weeks I have been experiencing this horrible error. I have consulted the Symantec Support pages, but I can find no 'permanent' solution for the environment I am using. Rebooting the server every day is not an option, this is the fileserver that people access remotely almost nearly 24/7. It also doesn't seem to work, the first one or two backups after a reboot work but then it just goes back into the error listen in this threads topic. There is also a suggestion about freeing more space on C:\, I think there is enough (see below). My backup server is Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. It's fully up to date up with the most recent Windows Updates. This is a physical server. The server I am having trouble with is Windows Server 2012 Standard. It's fully up to date up with the most recent Windows Updates. This is also a physical server. It has a C:\ drive with 125GB free of 150GB It has a D:\ drive with 1.6TB free of 1.6TB It has an E:\ drive with 2.2TB free of 5.5TB I have attached a screenshot showing the amount of times this server won't backup properly because of the above error. The worst thing about it is because I am backup up such an immense amoutn of data it takes about 25-30 hours to do a full backup. But it doesn't go into error until it's completely done! How can it POSSIBLY give a Writer error status at the very end of the backup process!! How is that even possible? The writer error is about failing to make a snapshot, why does it not INSTANTLY see that theres a problem and goes into error, why do I have to wait for 30 hours in anticipation to see if the backup software does why I purchased it. I have 53 servers to backup which takes me over four days, if my fileserver goes into error my entire backup schedule for that week goes out the window. This is becoming increasingly annoying.I don't want to have to come in on weekends because the backup software andomly decides it doesn't want to work. I'd like to add that my Exchange server also experiences this problem, except not that often. It's just as annoying though as you can understand that if my fileserver gets used 24/7 the Exchange server can't exactly get a daily reboot either. It's even more of a pita to reboot. All my other servers never have any problems, physical or virtual. Hyper-V or V-Sphere. It just works. Please advise. I need to document my scheduled jobs, the resource, the selection list and the selection list details that each job uses into an Excel spreadsheet. I do NOT see an easy way to do this through a canned report or a custom report within BE to save as an Excel Spreadsheet...even on the Backup Selection Lists and editing or viewing a selection list, I cannot export or save the list to a file. If I have to do this manually, it will take several hours worth of work transposing information with the risk of missing something... any suggestions would be appreciated... Hi all, I had opened up the magzine of the autoloader and replace the tape manually. After that, I encountered the error whenever I tried to bring the robotic library online and which I swop back to the original tape. Now, how do I resolved this and what would be the correct procedures to replace the tape from the autoloader using BE2012? Regards, QingyanSolved15KViews3likes8Comments
