Migrate from EV9 server, SQL, & Vaults, to new EV 10 server assistance requested.
All, My company currently uses Enterprise vault, version 9.0.3, on a 2008 R2 STD virtual machine, with a remote 2005 SQL server, and attached LUNS for storage, with a NetApp backend, & Exchange 2010 in an DAG environment. Along with this we also have Discovery Accelerator, version 9.0.3 on the same server as EV 9. We want to upgrade our environment to Enterprise Vault 10, and create a secondary server for high availability, using the same specifications. The host will be Windows 2008 R2 ENT, 10 gigs of memory, and 8 cpus. I have been tasked with a full system upgrade & migration, to a new VM host, and new EV 10 installation. Here is what I would like to do, and need guidance on how, if possible, and other tips and suggestions moving forward. After building two new VM’s with EV 10 on them, I would like to migrate services from the EV 9 server, and port all services over to the EV 10 server. There are key items that to my understanding need to be migrated from EV 9, over to EV 10. Mailbox Vault Journal Vault Discovery Accelerator SQL Database from 2005, to 2008 R2 Along with that we are retiring out SQL 2005 environment, and need to migrate EV’s existing SQL data, into a new SQL 2008 R2 server. Since EV requires SQL, and Discovery Accelerator does also, this particular part of the migration eludes me completely. To make things even more complicated, the current storage we are using for EV’s content, is on an old filer, and we need to migrate the vaultsand indexing to our new fast storage, and this also completely eludes me. To review, here are my goals: Build & prep two new 2008 R2 ENT systems for high availability Migrate currently EV9 SQL content from 2005 SQL, to 2008 R2 SQL server. Migrate storage of all EV content, to new fast storage. Within that storage is the Indexes, mail vaults, journal vault, etc I may be completely out of line, however my hope here is to setup a new EV 10 server, attached it to the new fast storage, also set it up to the new 2008 R2 SQL server, and then somehow migrate data & services from the EV 9 server, over to the EV 10 server. Then from there execute the process of decommissioning the old EV 9 server. I would like to avoid doing any software upgrades to the existing EV 9.0.3 server, including Discovery Acclerator, and once the new system is online, simply move data, and services over. I have read several post for this type of process, but I haven’t found anything with specific chronological information for this. If any user or staff member could help, I would be very appreciative. I am tasked with removing all our staff's shortcuts in their mailbox in preparation of moving them into Office 365. We have a policy that a shortcut is created after an email is archived and that shortcut exists in the user's mailbox for 1 year. Currently I created a mailbox policy to delete these shortcuts but I cannot remove all of them, I still have to leave 1 day. Any ideas / experience in removing these shortcuts?Solved958Views3likes4CommentsRetiring Enterprise Vault Environment
We have moved to another archive solution and are ready to decommision our sole EV server. User emails were all exported back into Exchange and shortcut/stub emails deleted. Individual archive mailboxes were disabled in EV. All EV services and tasks stopped. Is there anything further we need to do? Everything takes place on the EV server, so there's no connectors or services to remove from the Exchange servers themselves, correct? We can now just retire the server, its DB and volumes? Thanks,Solved794Views2likes2CommentsEV9.0.2 to EV10 upgrade/migration, roll back possible?
Hello All, I will start by saying I am not real familiar with the Enterprise Vault software. I have a client currently on EV 9.0.2 and wants to upgrade to EV10, but only if it is possible to go back to EV9 if anything seems off. I have read through the documentation and forum discussions on the upgrade and have begun to prepare the new 64-bit VM for this upgrade. The question is this, after running the migration wizard to move the data from the EV9 environment into the EV10 environment, is it possible to revert back to EV9 and if so, what are the steps involved? Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like pointers inside the exchange mailboxes are changed during this migration. So if I were to be required to revert, would I have to restore the exchange environment to a state prior to the migration as well as restoring SQL and EV9? Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this for me.Solved451Views2likes2CommentsEnterprise vault 7.5 Decomission

Hi All, We are currently in the middle of an Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2013 POC & to date we have had some challenges in regards to the functionality of the Virtual Vault after the installation of Outlook 2013. Outlook 2013 installs without error. We then launch Outlook all looks well with the Virtual Vault in the navigation pane, however when you click on the Virtual Vault to expand the folder set you get the error message "Cannot expand the folder. The set of folders cannot be opened. An unexpected error has occured. MAPI was unable to load the information service EVMSP.DLL. Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured". To set the scene we have the current configuration on our POC test case machine - Outlook 2007 SP3 installed side by side with Outlook 2013 15.0.4649.1001 : - Enterprise Vault Outlook Addin 10.0.4.1293 - Outlook 2007 SP3 user with Virtual Vault working as expected - Outlook 2013 15.0.4649.1001 with Virtual Vault, however cannot expand folder set because of the MAPI error above. In order to re-enable the Vault we have had to do one of two tasks below: 1. As part of the Outlook 2013 installation script we perform a repair of the Enterprise Vault add-in, which results in most cases of a working Virtual Vault upon completion of the installation of Outlook. 2. By running the following command rundll32 EVMSP32.dll,MergeEVMSPWithMAPISVC To my understanding the reason for this MAPI error is a result of the new installation of Outlook 2013 creating a new MAPISVC.INF where the Enterprise Vault services have not been registered. This then results in the Virtual Vault not functioning as expected. In performing one of the two tasks below this registers the service with MAPI, which results in a working Virtual Vault. What i would like to understand is if anyone in the forum has come across an issue like this & what approach you have taken to resolve it. Any insight, suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, ScottSolved4.9KViews1like5CommentsUnable to Install EV Admin Console Only
Hi, We have upgraded our EV from 8 to 10 and started using Veeam as backup from BE. emails are in pending archive mode and been given this solution: http://dailyvmtech.wordpress.com/2012/10/23/backing-up-symantec-enterprise-vault-with-veeam-backup-replication/ On the backup server, in the past EV 8 console was installed and we are now unable to install/upgrade to 9 and to 10 from there. When trying to install 9, this is the error we are having: At least one test for the SQL server version has failed.NHSCBV01\BKUPEXEC: Unable to connect to server My question is: I am unable to see EV 8 console in add/remove program; can we uninstall this from this server whereever it is? and than install the EV 10 console ? Because when trying to install 10, it says 8 is already there you cannot upgrade to 10 directly. Any help and advise would be really appreciated. Good afternoon, My co-worker recently installed Office 2013 64-bit on his Windows 7 (x64-bit) laptop. He installed the Outlook 10.0.4 CHF3 add-in and it is not showing up. Here is a list of troubleshooting steps that we've tried. -ResetEVClient.exe -Uninstalling/Reinstalling (running as Admin) -Checked to make sure Valkyrie.dll was in the EVClient folder and it was. -log off/log on and a reboot. I know that last year I had this issue, but I was working on so many other projects that I put it on the backburner and I remember it just showing up one day.2.1KViews1like4CommentsUpgrading from Office 2007 w/ EV 9.02 to Office 2013 w/ EV 10.04 - Add in does not load
Dear all, Background: I am currently working on an install script to upgrade users from Office 2007 to Office 2013. There are a number of add-ins to remove and install as part of this process, one of them being Enterprise Vault Outlook Add-in. Before upgrading, users have EV 9.02 with Outlook 2007 SP2 installed. The script currently removes EV 9.02, along with other add-ins and applications, restarts, then installs Office 2013. After Office 2013 has been installed the new versions of the add-ins are installed (without any more restarts). These are installed as part of a batch script that runs at login (HKLM\..\RunOnce). The user is a local administrator. UAC is not enabled. Other add-ins that were installed load and function correctly after Outlook has been upgraded. Problem: The EV application itself appears to install. It has an entry in Programs and Features and the add-in is listed in COM Add-ins in Outlook (albeit unticked). MSI logging is also enabled and this reports that the application was successfully installed. The issue is that the add-in will not load when Outlook 2013 is launched, i.e. there is no ENTERPRISE VAULT in the ribbon or the options menu. Enabling it in Outlook and restarting does not make it load. This issue only appears to occur on machines running Windows 7 64-bit. Windows 7 32-bit machines are running a virtually identical script but the add-in has been loading on most of the test machines so far. Troubleshooting: - Enabled level 3 logging (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\KVS\Enterprise Vault\Client\LoggingLevel) and relaunched Outlook but no file ev_client_log_XXX.txt is created in %temp%. - Added the installation MSI to HKLM\..\RunOnce to reinstall at next logon, but the same issue occurs. Same issue also occurs if added to HKCU\..\RunOnce. The application installs but the add-in does not load. - Forced add-in to run by setting LoadBehaviour to 3 in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\EnterpriseVault.DesktopUI Workarounds: The only way that I've been able to get it to load is by: - Manually repairing or reinstalling the application using the same batch file, or the same MSI, when the user is logged in - Logging in as a different user and manually enabling the add-in in Outlook, then logging off and back in as the original user Obviously these solutions are not ideal as we are going to be upgrading nearly 2,000 users in the coming weeks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, EoinSolved1.4KViews1like8CommentsEV Outlook Add-In for Office 365 Subscription / Windows 8.1
Not sure if anyone else has had this specific issue (I have seen some similar posts), but I recently ran into a problem getting the Outlook Add-In to work with the subscription edition of Office 2013 on Windows 8.1. No matter what I did I could not get the Enterprise Vault Add-In to even show up in the trust center in Outlook, let alone on the menu bar in Outlook. The fix for this problem ended up being to uninstall the subscription edition of Office 2013 that was downloaded from Office 365 and reinstall and the normal volume license edition. Once I made this change, and uninstalled/reinstalled the EV plug-in the Outlook Add-in worked immediately! I haven't gone as far as testing to determine if the problem is specific to Windows 8.1 or the Office Subscription installation but I just wanted to share my findings. We do have several clients that are using/looking at the subscription edition of Office even if they are not using Office 365 for email, so this is a problem I expect we are going to start to see more often if they are also archiving with EV.
