Symantec Netbackup 7 licensing
Hi All, I'd like to know if I'm getting this correctly. I'm planning to getNetbackup 7 Starter Editionaccording tob-symc_netbackup_7_core_DS_12995286-2.en-us.pdf(http://eval.symantec.com/mktginfo/enterprise/fact_sheets/b-symc_netbackup_7_core_DS_12995286-2.en-us.pdf)Table 2. the Edition comparison the Starter Edition can have 5 Server (supported clients) does this means i can have the following backup items: 1x ESXi 4 server (using vStorage API for inline deduplication - Change Block Tracking) 1x Solaris SPARC + Oracle DB 10gR2 1x Linux 1x Windows Server + Share Point 2007 (Granular restore) 1x Windows Server + Exchange Server 2007(Granular restore) all of the above with bare metal restore capability. Since it is said that i could have: Server Clients, Tape Drive and Database Agents included ? yes I understand that Deduplication is not included here since it will need another license to spend. I'm getting confused here of which product that i should get :-| Would be good if anyone can clarify this please ?Solved1.2KViews4likes6CommentsvSphere 5.1 Support Update
Symantec and VMware are unwaveringly dedicated to quality in our jointly developed solutions. During our testing with the VMware vStorage 5.1 API Symantec discovered issues* that introduce data recovery risks. We raised these concerns with our friends at VMware, who documented them in their knowledge base and in the VMware vSphere 5.1 release notes. VMware expects to release a vStorage API update, and at that time we expect to retest and once again support joint solutions. Hi All, I am moving over from the old netbackup 6.5 to 7.5 and am trying to iron out some of the issues before turning off the old system. I have a policy which backs up all VMware hosts. It does most of them without too much bother but gets stuck with a few. It seems to get stuck when doing the snapshot in VMWare I have searched the forum and have tried the solution to issues which I thought were the same but not getting anything. There are other machines in the policy which seems to work ok. I have compared the details on the host sides and can't see anything outstanding. I would be very greatful if anyone could shed any light on this at all. I have put in the output from the job description please let me know if any other information would be helpful. Hi All, I was just looking to see what others are doing with the growth of vm's and the need to back them up. I am using NetBackup 7.1.0.4. I am currently have 1000 vm's to backup per site (i have two sites), I have a mixture of VMX4 & VMX7. I have two high spec'd MSDP's per site, the MSDP are tier 5 storage on an 8GB SAN. The ESX Luns are zoned to the MSDP servers also, so using SAN as transport type. The MSDP servers are windows. I currently backup2 clusters per day one per media server to spread the backup load over the week, this works fine even though my performance using the camel test only shows 130 - 140 mb/sec. (The lower end of the scale) However this means I can be upto 6 days out of date when requiring a restore due to backing up a cluster once a week. I have tried to split the VMX4 VMs are 500, and 500 VMX7s so I can do BLIB backups on the VMX7s, but trying to backup 500 VMs (a day)even on a BLIB and the 500VMX4s one cluster a weekwith only 2 media servers is proving a difficult task. I have been looking at adding more MSDP servers, but as the storage isnt the fastest I am also looking at appliances. I know im not the only one out there with the challenge of backing up 1000's of VMs, I was wondering what you have done, and the best options to either add more media servers, or look at appliances. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Jay1.7KViews2likes11CommentsNetbackup for VMWare
Hi, I have netbackup 7.5.0.4 and I am backing up VMware environment, the problem is when I run many jobs together (3 or 4), I noticed that the size on the datastore (VM storage) become full, i checked and found that the snapshot take the same size as the primary copy, so whats wrong here, the size of the snapshot is supposed to be a few gigbytes, why it take the same size, it seems it do mirroring for the disk.2.3KViews2likes14CommentsVMware Backup Failure with NetBackup 7.5, Transport Mode Error 23, Status 6
I thought I would post a solution here to a Status 23 error from bpbrm which results in a Status 6 on the parent VMware backup job (child job never spawns). Steps we tried that did not work: Removed and re-added client to policy Upgraded from 7.5.0.1 to 7.5.0.4 (a suggestion from Symantec) vMotion VM to another ESXi host Storage vMotion VM to another datastore Solution: We cloned the VM and the clone successfully backed up. Which led us to wonder if it was a config issue on the VMware side (VMX file?). After taking an outage for the client we did the following: Remove the offending VM from vCenter inventory. Rename the VM folder using the datastore browser. (This step is to avoid the same name folder that will be created in step 3) Create a new VM with the same name and specs. But no disks attached. Move the vmdk files from the old file folder to new folder. "Edit settings" on the newly created VM and attach "existing disk" by locating the VMDK files. Power on the new VM. Remove the old (renamed) file folder which should contain only the vmx, nvram and log files [house cleaning] The client was then able to backup successfully.3.7KViews2likes4CommentsNetBackup 7.5 + VMware 5.0 making full backups instead of Differential-inc
Hi, We have been using Netbackup 7.5 since First Availability and switched all our policies for Vmware from FlashBackup-Windows to Vmware. Master and Media servers are running Windows 2008R2 all at Netbackup version 7.5 and all our vcenter servers are running vSpehere 5. We are having problem with differential-inc backups on our Vmware policies; the differential-inc backups are the same size of the full backup. One thing I noticed is the file count, on full backups the file count show all the files but on differential-inc backups I see a fragment of the files of the full backup which makes me think that the file count is actually the good one. Both Full and Diff are taking around the same time to complete. I went through the different articles: - Validated my permissions making sure that ''disk change tracking'' is enabled on the role ''VMware Consolidated Backup User'' - Validated my ''change block tracking'' it is activated and the VM level and at the disk level - My servers are all in the same policies for full and differential, I made sure to run a full backup first I am at the point where I don`t know what to check anymore, any of you would have ideas? Hi Everyone, I'm hoping someone might be able to suggest some areas to look into with a few issues I'm running into while trying to restore a VM to an alternate location. I have limited success depending on my restore options. If I restore the VM (to an alternate location) using all the defaults, the restore is successful. However, if I try and change some of the defaults, things don’t go so well. Issues: 1. If I try and select a different ESX host to restore to in the wizard, it doesn’t find any of my ESX hosts and I’m forced to cancel the restore: 2. None of my network names are displayed in the wizard. As a consequence, when I perform the restore, the VM is restored without any network adapters: Any guidance anyone can give would be much appreciated. I’ve enabled some debugging but haven’t found anything useful. Hoping someone might be able to shed some light on these problems. Thanks in advance!
