VMWare Backups with File Level Restore on 7.5.0.1
Having found out that we cannot exclude the data disks whilst using dynamic disks (see my previous post on the subject) I thought that I would backup the whole server and look at the file level restore for this particular server; however, I have stumbled across another issue............. The server has two disks, C drive is 60Gb and D drive is 100Gb both are set as dynamic disks, on top of this we are using the built in windows disk management system to mirror the D drive, the backup is set as a VMWare backup in the policy and all the default options are set in the advanced section so all disks are covered, the backup completes and I can restore 3 vmdk files but cannot do any individual file restores, we have tried breaking the mirror and re-running the backup but we get the same results. Having read the VMWare Admin Guide this does mention that using raid software on Linux will result in not being able to restore individual files, is this the same for Windows??? Have Symantec got any plans to change the VM backups to do what Veeam can do as at the moment it looks like our plan to remove Veeam from the estate will have to be put on hold until Netbackup can do the same as Veeam in relation to backup/restore. Hi again. So, I am trying to do a cross restore, but keep getting this error message. I have tried a bunch of things, yet nothing seems to work. Server: Windows 2008 R2, Netbackup 7.1.0.4 Source client: windows 2003, netbackup 7.1.0.4 client. Physical server. Destination client: Windows 2008 R2, Netbackup 7.1.0.4. Virtual server, with VMware. Has a 1tb lun assigned. This is a file server I am trying to virtualize, so I want to move all my data from the source to the destination. I tried restoring files from the source to the source, and the destination, to the destination. No problem there. I need to do a P2V migration of a SBS 2003 to a VMware ESXi 5.x. We have Symantec System Recovery 2011 installed on the SBS. What's the best way of doing this: Hotclone Run a System Recovery backup (creates a .sv2i and .v2i images) Use System Recovery to restore the .sv2i to the ESXi host OR... Use VMware Converter to convert the .sv2i to the ESXi host Coldclone (is this even possible to an ESXi 5.x?) Boot off supplied Symantec Recovery CD Run backup direct to the ESXi host Is there a preferred method? Any other tips (i.e. hot vs cold clone)? Anything I should watch out for (i.e. DC, Exchange DB)? Many thanks.Solved1.8KViews7likes9CommentsBackup Job Rate more than halved when backing up Hyper-V VM vs Physical Server
Hi, We recently P2Ved one of our fileservers, prior to which we were able to backup with a job rate of 2GB+/min and a total backup runtime of around 15 hours. Since P2Ving the server, we now only get a job rate of around 900MB/min and the total runtime is now around 32 hours. Does anybody know why the job rate would have drop so significantly? Environment Details: We have gigabit ethernet between the VM host and iSCSI SAN (Dell Powervault MD3200i) and we backup to tape (a Dell PowerVault TL2000) The VM is a Hyper-V VM running on a Hyper-V cluster but we are not using the Hyper-V agent for backing up, just the standard RAWS agent, OS is W2K8 R2 Standard The server BE is installed on is physical with the tape library connect via SAS, BE version is 2010 R3 SP1, OS is W2K8 R2 Enterprise Cheers Adam.Solved1.2KViews7likes4CommentsNetwork setings missing from vm restore
We are currently busy performing a live DR test of all our prod servers consisting of 2003 and 2008 Windows servers. The 2003 servers restore no problem. The restore job for the 2008 servers also finish successfully. However when starting up the 2008 servers it no longer hav ethe same network settins that it had when being backed up. We ran a similar test last year following the same procedure in which all servers restored no problem. We are currently runing BackupExec 2010 R2. In the virtual environment the only thing which changed is that we upgeaded from ESX\ESXi 4.1 U1 to 4.1 U2 at which time all NICs were upgraded to vmxnet3. The NICs seem to have loaded with default settings. IP6 on and configured for DHCP as apposed to IP4 on with the original IP configured. Has anyone else experiance this or have an idea on how to resotre these 2008 servers without having to reconfigure all the network settings?Solved2.2KViews7likes4CommentsTen Backup Mistakes in a Virtual Environment - Part 1
With VMworld this week, much of the news and attention is focused on all-things-virtualization. Virtualization is truly a game-changing technology and one that most IT pros are already neck deep in. The benefits are obvious: increased utilization rates, increased business flexibility, lower hardware costs, better utilization of computing resources, reduced space requirements, power and
