Backup Job Rate more than halved when backing up Hyper-V VM vs Physical Server
Hi, We recently P2Ved one of our fileservers, prior to which we were able to backup with a job rate of 2GB+/min and a total backup runtime of around 15 hours. Since P2Ving the server, we now only get a job rate of around 900MB/min and the total runtime is now around 32 hours. Does anybody know why the job rate would have drop so significantly? Environment Details: We have gigabit ethernet between the VM host and iSCSI SAN (Dell Powervault MD3200i) and we backup to tape (a Dell PowerVault TL2000) The VM is a Hyper-V VM running on a Hyper-V cluster but we are not using the Hyper-V agent for backing up, just the standard RAWS agent, OS is W2K8 R2 Standard The server BE is installed on is physical with the tape library connect via SAS, BE version is 2010 R3 SP1, OS is W2K8 R2 Enterprise Cheers Adam.Solved1.2KViews7likes4CommentsNetwork setings missing from vm restore
We are currently busy performing a live DR test of all our prod servers consisting of 2003 and 2008 Windows servers. The 2003 servers restore no problem. The restore job for the 2008 servers also finish successfully. However when starting up the 2008 servers it no longer hav ethe same network settins that it had when being backed up. We ran a similar test last year following the same procedure in which all servers restored no problem. We are currently runing BackupExec 2010 R2. In the virtual environment the only thing which changed is that we upgeaded from ESX\ESXi 4.1 U1 to 4.1 U2 at which time all NICs were upgraded to vmxnet3. The NICs seem to have loaded with default settings. IP6 on and configured for DHCP as apposed to IP4 on with the original IP configured. Has anyone else experiance this or have an idea on how to resotre these 2008 servers without having to reconfigure all the network settings?Solved2.2KViews7likes4CommentsBE 2014 Slow Hyper -V Incremental Back ups
Hi All There seems to be a lot ofthreads regardingthis problem, however i've not found a difinitive solution. Environment Physical Backup Server - BE 2014, OS Windows 2008 R2 - Fully patched, 16GB RAM, 2 x 6 Core CPU's, backing up a mixture of physical andHyper-V Virtual Windows servers running Windows 2008/2012. We have recently upgraded to Backup Exec 2014, and it seems that our Hyper-V incremental backups run extremly slow. At around 200 MB/M. I understand that if I enable Microsoft incremental backups I need to upgrade my server to 2012 to get GRT backups. But i've not read anything that says this resolves the issue, and may impact on servers performance due to a snapshot always running. Any help would be great. Thanks Paul.330Views6likes1CommentHyper-V Failover Cluser backup issue
Hello to all, I have recently setup an Hyper-V failover cluster with 2 brand new servers configured as clustered nodes along with a CSV storage. THe cluster is working great, the failover works fine, and I can Live Migrate Virtual Machines as much as I want. However I am running into a Backup issue. My Backup software is Backup Exec 2010 R3. I have installed the backup agent on my 2 failover nodes. In the backup job selectionI can see my cluster refered as Hyper-V-Cluster1 , and underneath I see C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1 , and also Microsoft Hyper-V-HA Virtual Machines , with my Virtual Machines listed. So far so good. The problem is that , when selecting VMs under Hyper-V HA , the backup will fail for all the VMs stored on the node which is not the storage Owner Node. For the owner node the VMs are backedup properlyas long as I choose the following Advanced Open Fileoption: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service => Automatic, Allow Vss to select the snapshot provider. But for the VMs on the NON storage Owner node the job will failed with the following error: - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "VRTSRV::\\HyperV-Cluster1.xxx.local\Hyper-V?HA?VM\VM1". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS). V-79-10000-11230 - VSS Snapshot error. Unable to get minimum quiet time for physical volumes. Reduce the activity on these volumes, or wait and run the backup when there is less activity on the volumes. The following volumes are dependent on resource: "C:" "C:\CLUSTERSTORAGE\VOLUME1" . I cannot back up VMs stored on the non owner Hyper-V host ( node). I tranfered this VM on the Owner node, andthen the backup works just fine. So I would like to know how to backup all my VMs stored on the other node. Besides , in the job selection, if I choose my VM from the C:\Clusterstorage\Volume1 instead of selecting it from Hyper-V HA , it works fine too. So I am also wondering what is the difference between choosing Hyper-V HA , and C:\Clusterstorage I am adding a picture below, so it makes more sense. Thank you for your answers !4.5KViews6likes11CommentsBackup of Esx host failing
Hi, I have a 2008 server running backup exec 14.1 Rev 1786 with the Agent for VMware and Hyper-V installed. I am trying to create a backup job to backup all the vms on a Esxi 5.5.0 host. I have added to root credentails for the esx host and backup execis able to browse the host and see all the vms and vmdks but the job fails with the following error "The logon account that was provided does not have valid credentials.Ensure that the user name and password are correct, and then try again." The credentials test is sucessfulon the host but not on the vms. The host isnt part of a domain Do I need to have credentials for each VM? I am running BE2012 SP1. I am unable to backup a powered off VMware Virtual Machine. The job will error stating "Could not connect to the vCenter server or ESX server. Please verify the credential supplied for login." If I test the credentials for the particular VM while it is off it will fail with "unknown, test recommended." If I power up the VM and test the credentials it will complete successfully. I cannot backup this server while it is powered up. I have made certain I have ticked the option to backup powered off VMs in the backup job.Solved991Views5likes4CommentsHow to recover Backup Exec media servers in another server?

So with a new SAN from Dell we got a new back-up server and BE 2012 adn the VMWare essentials plus bundle (VCentre, Agents etc.). I have to set up the new back-up solution. Need a few answers that I cant find in any fo the support doco. Here are my specs: Q1) Back-up server came already configured with 2 Stores, Disk 0: I have made 60Gb system (2008R2 + BE 2012), and Data Drive 200GB for misc apps files. The second store Disk 1: is one RAID with 16TB, That I have to choose what I need to do with for our 2012 installation disk storage/scratch area etc. The best choice guides just say dont use for both disk storage and de-dupe storage, so what should i do? Break it up. Use just one option? What about restore scratch area? Our full Virtual environment is about 10GB, so do we need at least this to house all snapshots? Q2) I havent committed a configuration yet but I have set a couple of test scenarios up to familiarise myslef with the settings/menus. The agents for VMWAre and Windows are installed on the back-up server so i can choose esx/vcentre hosts and it should be able to logon to the esx hosts and then see all the VM's on these hosts and incloude these too in the 'server list'? Well when i do this, it is only adding the esx hosts and i cant see where/how it finds/populates all the VM's on teh hosts? (THe admin guide makes a pont that new VM's are automatically backed up, yet i'd expect to see these through the BE console?). PLease help!1KViews5likes15CommentsSome question about VMware backups
Hello, I have some question about VMware backups: 1) If the virtual disk is 200 GB but just 100 GB are used, how much will be the the backup size? Can Backup Exec optimize the storage utilization without copying the empty blocks? 2) Can I make full synthetic backups using BLIB (Block Level Incremental Backups)? 3) Is BLIB compatible with GRT? On other words, can I restore single files or directory using BLIB incremental backups? ThanksSolved533Views5likes4CommentsVMware based incrementals not working
Hi, I'm having issues with getting Incremental backups of VMware virtual machines working using the AVVI agent.
