After vxvmconvert
Before running vxvmconvert, there is this pvscan PV /dev/sdb1 VG VG_DATA lvm2 [150.00 GiB / 50.00 GiB free] After running vxvmconvert the above is NOT reported by pvscan, as expected. This is reported: vxdisk list DEVICE TYPE DISK GROUP STATUS sda auto:LVM - - online invalid sdb auto:none - - online invalid sdb1 simple VG_DATA01 VG_DATA online My question is: Are sdb and sdb1 now different disks so that sdb can be initialized as a VxVM disk?1.4KViews0likes0CommentsVeritas Storage Foundation Under Xen Virtual Machines
Hi, I have been some problems with a virtual servers using xen virtualization servers. I found this article about support Veritas under Xen, but It's a old article, there are any updates about SF under Xen? http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH141375 In this case, the virtual server is Rhel 6.5, and I'm using sf 6.1.1 Regards802Views1like1Commentmove a dg to a new server
I have 2 solaris servers running storage foundation 5, using the same attached san but not same disks. I need to move 1 disk group (1 lun) from server one server to the other. The storage team has agreed to rezone the lun so both servers can see it... Will there be anything I need to to do,, to deport from server 1 and import to server 2?1KViews0likes3Commentsudid_mismatch using RHEL5u5 SF6.1 on Virtual Box
For a lab enviroment for testing on my laptop, I have used Virtual Box with RHEL 5.5 with SFHA6.1 and I have shared a disk by creating a disk of "fixed size" and setting type to "Shareable", but I get udid_mismatch as the udid seems to be host (not device) specific: Host a: [root@r55v61a ~]# vxdisk list sdc | egrep "guid|udid" guid: {1ac21a9c-a550-11e3-a7fd-30ba236498b6} udid: VBOX%5FHARDDISK%5FOTHER%5FDISKS%5Fr55v61a.localdomain%5F%2Fdev%2Fsdc Host b: [root@r55v61b ~]# vxdisk list sdc | egrep "guid|udid" flags: online ready private autoconfig udid_mismatch clone_disk guid: {1ac21a9c-a550-11e3-a7fd-30ba236498b6} udid: VBOX%5FHARDDISK%5FOTHER%5FDISKS%5Fr55v61b.localdomain%5F%2Fdev%2Fsdc So here you can see that the udid is different between the hosts as it contains the hostname (and device path /dev/sdc which could be different too). It is the same disk as you can see the guid is the the same and the uuid is the same in the .vbox config file and if I create a diskgroup on one node then I am able to see the diskgroup and mount and write to the filesystem on both nodes. As I understand, "vxdisk list" is showing me the udid in theDevice Discovery Layer and SF writes this udid to the private region and so if for exampe I run "vxdisk updateudid" on one node, then udid_mismatch is fixed on that node, but then of course the other node gets theudid_mismatch. Note it is the hostname in the udid, NOT the virtual machine name and so if I change the hostname of the server so that both nodes are the same, then this fixes the issue which is sort of a workaround as VCS uses /etc/VRTSvcs/sysname, not the hostname, but having duplicate hostnames may cause other issues. Looking athttp://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH196717, this says: The UDID is a tuple( 4 field) consisting of : VendorId , Product ID, Cabinet Serial number ,Lun Serial Number So it would seem theCabinet Serial number is resolving to the hostname and theLun Serial Number is resolving to the O/S device path. Vbox seems to emulate all disks, local AND shared to be in a single enclosue within the host (i.e internal disks), so I guess this is why the issue is arising as Vbox is reporting a single shared disk is contained in both hosts (and sometimes reporting a differentLun Serial Number if the device path for the disk is not the same on each host, which occurs if you have a different number of disks on each system or the controllers are not discovered in the same order). I had a look on VMWare workstation and this does the same - itseems to emulate all disks, local AND shared to be in a single enclosue within the host Does anyone know how to work-a-round this? Hi, I am quiet new, to Veritas and wanted to know where to find further information regarding the following questions based around RHEL; How would you increase the size of a Veritas volume with avxfs mounted on it? How can you see how much space is allocated to a veritasdisk group and how much is free? Regards GazSolved991Views0likes3CommentsSFHA install in Solaris 10 with Solaris 9 Branded Zone
We have install SFHA 5.1SP1RP3 in Solaris 10 update 10. When we configure the VCS zone agent to handle the Solaris 9 Branded Zone. It can online, offline the Solaris 9 Branded Zone in SFHA, but we see that Online the zone in agent, it show boot single user mode first, and then reboot to multi user mode. After boot in multi user mode, it is normal in VCS. Is that any solution for boot multi user mode only?Solved2.6KViews0likes17CommentsSymantec Availablity Solutions on Cloud
Hi, Would just like to know if the following solutions can be implemented via cloud? SF, VCS, VVR, VOM and APPHA. A client has their own private cloud and wants to create their DR via cloud as well. They are looking at our solution to help them implement their DR. Many Thanks! Dan922Views0likes4Commentshagrp flush and probe
Hi , I was reading abt hagrp -flush when troubleshooting problems on service group and rsources and was not able to understand when we would be using this hagrp -flush and use of probe? I t would be great if somebody could explain with some example I tried to read abt Flushing a service group but was not able to understand perfectly. Occasionally, agents for the resources in a service group can appear to become suspended waiting for resources to be brought online or be taken offline.------------->in this scenario what would be the state of resource and service group. Generally, this condition occurs during initial configuration and testing because the required attributes for a resource are not defined properly or the underlying operating system resources are not prepared correctly. If it appears that a resource or group has become suspended while being brought online, you can flush the service group to enable corrective action.------------------------------------->what they mean by suspended ? Is it s state of a resource group. Flushing a service group stops VCS from attempting to bring resources online and clears any internal wait states. You can then check resources for configuration problems or underlying operating system configuration problems, and then attempt to bring resources back online.----------------------------------------> when we configure any resource with wrong attibutes and tries to bring onlineSolved1.5KViews0likes2CommentsAnnouncing Storage Foundation High Availability Customer Forum 2012

If i have SAN Booted server with Boot disk encapsulated in VxVM and when LUN is replicated to BCP Site and Presented to another server, it is bootable at BCP Site despite the Device paths presented to the server at BCP Site will be different from those of Production. Just want to know whether it is bootable if we have all the relevant licensing. I know Diskgroups can be imported at BCP Site with uuidupdate. But is rootdg bootable with different device paths ?407Views0likes1Comment
