After updating VSR desktop from 21.0.1 to 21.0.3, tray icon suddenly disappears when backup starts
Today I upgraded from Veritas System Recovery version 21.0.1 to the latest version 21.0.3 The issue, which I encounter with this new release (21.0.3), is: - When the computer starts and I logon on to Windows 10 Pro, the little red tray icon is visible - When a planned backup starts the red tray icon normally show a small green "play" sign in the red tray icon, but instead of this, the red tray icon disappears from the tray and never comes back again (unless you reboot your PC) I am aware of the entry in the C:\ProgramData\Veritas\Veritas System Recovery\settings.ini file (TrayRunConsole=0). That line workaround has already been in the software from version 18.0 Could someone help me out so the red tray icon wil stay there when VSR is performing a backup?5.3KViews0likes19CommentsVeritas System Recovery Management Solution End of Life
Does Veritas have any updated commitments as to the features and capabilities that will be included in theVeritas System Recovery Monitor ? As of the latest updates I have, the Recovery Monitor does not offer the same capabilities for enterprise scale management of VSR clients. Given the deprecation of features and fact that there is not a long time to make a major change like the recovery tool we have to make a decision fairly soon as to our future state. (Select a new product that is more scalable, etc). If I have to base this off the tool as it is today, the Recovery monitor just cannot work for us. Any further updates as to this product ?1.6KViews0likes5CommentsWindows 10 21H1 - no technical support possible
I have 30 licenses ( under maintenace ) of Veritas System Recovery 21. My company's machines are slowly upgrading to Windows 10 release 21H1 (it was released in May 2021 by Microsoft so that is now more than 3 months ago). However, I am facing problems with Veritas 21 (build 21.0.3.62137) that technical support is refusing to address based on the principle that ' Veritas 21.x is not supported on Windows 10 - 21H1'. From a different thread, I learned that support for Windows 21H1 is coming 'in the next major release'. Can someone tell me when that next major release is scheduled to be released? Or when actual 'support' will be provided for Windows 10 - 21H1 ?2KViews0likes5CommentsVeritas System Recovery Desktop referral
I have used System Recovery and its predecessors for many years. I have an acquaintance who is very technical and I was recommending System Recovery for Desktop for home PC windows backup use. They brought up some of the commonly used paid and free alternatives and I was trying to find some reviews or feature comparisons to pass along. However I could not find any reviews or any third party comparisons to other imaging products. Is there something I can send along? I started using SSR due to my prior use of SSR and Ghost, but was curious what to refer this person to. Thanks, BJB PS. Upgrading to 18 next week. It looks like I need to install 18 and then the new service pack? Any interesting new features?1.2KViews0likes4CommentsSystem Recovery 21 installation halts
I am trying to install the Veritas System Recovery 21 trialware with the intent to purchase. This is on a new Windows 10 system that is less than a month old, and all Windows updates have been installed. After I start browser.exe it prompts for language, and I choose English. I then click Install Now. It starts up the installation but it halts without completing after only a few seconds. What do I need to do/update to get the product installed?734Views0likes1CommentMy approximately annual plea to fix this MAJOR flaw
I've reported this issue previously, but just thought I'd try again. This issue is ongoing for several years but nothing ever gets done. The issue is simply that the screens displayed by the recovery media for System Recovery are UNREADABLE on systems using small, high DPI screens in UEFI mode. As an example, take a look at this snapshot of the main screen from the System Recovery boot media: Note how this is completely unusable. There is not even a means of scrolling to the portions that don't fit within the screen. One other thing to note about the screenshot above: As attached in this post, that window may look very large. But the image above is actually greatly magnified. You can get an idea of how small that screen is by looking at the "X" to close the dialog in the upper right and the tip of the mouse pointer at the lower right. In other words, there are two issue: That screen is extremely tiny and elements simply don't fit properly making the recovery media unusable because you simply cannot navigate it. I actually ran into a real world situation recently where I need to recover from a backup on my laptop and I simply couldn't do it. I ended up having to install Windows from scratch, install System Recovery, and then mount my backup and recover my data manually. That was very time consuming and would have been so much easier if I could have simply performed an image recovery. I don't understand why this issue continues to go unresolved for years. To reproduce the issue, you need the following: 1) A computer that is configured to boot in pure UEFI mode (not BIOS, or UEFI with CSM). 2) A small screen run a high resolution. As an example, a 15-inch laptop screen with a 4k (3840 x 2160) resolution. 3) Veritas System Recovery media running in either the "Typical" or "Advanced" mode (WinRE or WinPE). I like to report this issue maybe once a year in the hope that one day someone will actually take pity on me and address this issue :-). Apologies if my tone is a little harsh. It's simply that it gets a little old seeing this same rather high priority issue for years now.1.4KViews0likes3CommentsCan't Get USB Recovery Disk to Be Engaged
Hi, Long-time user. Back to Ghost days. Had the issue there, occasionally, too. I've created a recovery disk on USB. I've reset the boot sequence. But, restart with Boot Sequence set to USB, each time the restart bypasses the USB. I've got a LigtsOut Restore. It's visible at start up. But, even still, that USB recovery disk just does not get noticed. Its a new USB, too. Formatted again and re-tried several times. Can't figure it out. What do you think is happening? This is what I see on the disk: Sincerely, Cal2KViews0likes5CommentsIs it possible to alter default behavior for a missed backup?
Assume I have a computer set to perform a backup at 1:00 AM every day. If the system was down when the backup should have taken place, the next time I logon I will get a message asking if I want the backup to be performed. If no choice is made, the default is to not automatically start the backup. Is there any sort of setting that would allow me to change the default so that the missed backup will automatically be stated?Solved1.5KViews0likes3CommentsAny plans to modernize the file / folder backup capability of System Recovery?
Are there any plans to modernize the File and Folder Backup option? From the user guide: Note: The file and folder backup is intended for less than 10,000 files. If the data to be backed up exceeds this amount, Veritas strongly recommends to use the drive-based backup. 10,000 files is a ridiculous limitation. I have a single folder with over 250,000 files / subfolders in it and that's nothing compared to what the rest of HD contains. A full disk image on this particular drive would be impractical because I store virtual machines created for various test scenarios here and these would result in backup deltas of a couple hundred GB per day. Since they are for testing only, I would want to exclude these from a backup, but disk imaging does not allow for that. A file and folder backup would be appropriate here, but Veritas does not recommend using it with more than 10,000 files. Put another way, System Recovery is not capable of efficiently backing up my data.1.1KViews0likes2Comments
