Windows thick console 7.5 - no way to backup/restore servers?? Also issue with Russian characters in file names
We have come across an issue using the JAVA console (either on UNIX or Windows) where files with Russian characters in the file name are not being correctly named in NetBackup. The file names are being created similar to H2TV30~1. This make trying to restore a file an Indiana Jones type of adventure. 3 days of Googling, and all I can find is one post where someone said Symantec told them to use the Windows thick console and it should display file names with Russian characters fine. OK, so I finally got the Windows thick console up and running (BTW - the console and the client share registry settings. We were backing up the server that I installed the console on via the public NIC, but our master server only listens on the private NIC - in order to get both working, had to set the client to back up through the private NIC!). So I get it installed, fire it up, and it looks almost identical to the JAVA client - ALMOST! There is no Backup, Archive, and Restore function right above the Activity Monitor! Only thing I can find is the button on the toolbar, and that ONLY brings up the client to backup/restore the client the console is installed on! Is there no way to backup and restore all of your servers through the Windows thick console like you do through the JAVA console? We are running the master and media server on UNIX. And also, anyone have any inputs on the Russian character thing?Solved1.4KViews7likes9CommentsSLP Duplication issue
Hi, We recenty have a space crunch issue on our disk pool. So as a temporary resolution we want to expire the images which are on disk and has already been duplicated to tape by SLP. We take backups on SLP where in we have set the settings as the backups to stay on disk for a month and then duplicate to tape. Now we have changed the setting in SLP to expire after duplication, But i was wondering that there might be images on disk that have already been duplicated to tape but not yet expired because we have specified it to stay on disk for a month. Please help with your valuable suggestions.Solved1KViews6likes9CommentsStep by step guide for AIR on DataDomain
Dear All, It seems I'm missing a lot of things after reading NBUAdmGuide_I and DDOSAdmGuide. I'm trying to set up AIR using DD's replication, but it is not working for me. I'm not stating that the cause of this AIR not working is on my NBU servers; I'm still searching. Now to the details. What I have is: - NBU7.6.0.1 Master/Media as a Source. The same for the Destination. - DataDomains and DDBoost working properly on both sides (Source and Destination). - Regular backup policies writing on DD1 on the source side. Also regular backup policies writing on DD2 on the destination side. - A SLP on the source which first writes as usual and then duplicates the recently created backup image to a special DD1 DDBoost storage unit. - A SLP on the destination which has only an import operation defined. During my tests that import operation used either the regular DD2 DDBoost storage unit and the DD2 DDBoost storage unit that is supposed to receive the replicated backup images from DD1 (by means of DataDomain replication technology). Sympthoms: - NBU_Source writes on DD1, both on the regular DDBoost storage unit and on the DDBoost storage unit which is defined as the source for the DataDomain replication. - NBU_Destination doesn't even blink an eye after the duplication has been done on the Source. OK, I'm not entirely sure that the resulting files on Source are really being duplicated to Destination (speaking about DD layer here), but, can I be sure that my configuration is right on both NBUs? I'm going a little bit crazy with this, since Symantec's documentation seems to be more devoted to MSDP than to OpenStorage API-compliant devices. Many, many thanks in advance for your help/ideas/suggestions. Ciao -- PepeSolved12KViews6likes17CommentsNumber_Data_Buffers Question
So recently we made the move to SLPs. We write to a virtual tape via a VTL and at the same time in the SLP we have duplications for two physical tapes. Everything is going fine, all the SLPs and duplication finish fine, but today we noticed one ran way longer than it has in the past. Looking at the details it showed. 1/6/2014 9:58:59 AM - Info bptm(pid=8972) media id FC4076 mounted on drive index 44, drivepath /dev/alias/nst/F0020EC025, drivename IBM.ULTRIUM-TD4.060, copy 3 1/6/2014 1:01:11 PM - Info bptm(pid=9556) waited for empty buffer 199 times, delayed 382394 times 1/6/2014 1:01:11 PM - end reading; read time: 03:19:08 1/6/2014 1:01:11 PM - positioning FC5520 to file 2 1/6/2014 1:01:11 PM - positioned FC5520; position time: 00:00:00 1/6/2014 1:01:11 PM - begin reading 1/6/2014 1:56:17 PM - Info bptm(pid=9556) waited for empty buffer 56 times, delayed 105814 times 1/6/2014 1:56:17 PM - end reading; read time: 00:55:06 1/6/2014 1:56:17 PM - Info bptm(pid=8972) waited for full buffer 605 times, delayed 1159589 times 1/6/2014 1:56:19 PM - Info bptm(pid=8972) setting receive network buffer to 262144 bytes 1/6/2014 1:56:19 PM - positioning FC5520 to file 3 1/6/2014 1:56:19 PM - positioned FC5520; position time: 00:00:00 1/6/2014 1:56:28 PM - Info bptm(pid=9556) completed reading backup image 1/6/2014 1:56:28 PM - Info bptm(pid=9556) EXITING with status 0 <---------- 1/6/2014 1:56:36 PM - Info bptm(pid=8972) EXITING with status 0 <---------- 1/6/2014 1:56:36 PM - end Duplicate; elapsed time: 10:07:24 the requested operation was successfully completed(0) We then looked deeper and a large amound of SLPs have similar waiting for empty/full buffer lines. So after some searching, it looks like we need to raise our buffer number, right now our NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS is set to 32 while our SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS is set to 262144 (support had us set this to this number for path to tape to work). Should changing from 32 to 64 or 128 help with this? Thanks!Solved4.8KViews6likes19CommentsFailed to backup in query mode when one of your Vcenter is down
Hi everyone, First, i'm sorry for my English :) With my team, we found a problem with the query mode when one of your Vcenter is not accessible in 7.6.0.3 The QUERY request will try to connect to all vcenter by default to check his request. At this time, if one of Vcenter added in credential is not accessible, the query will fail with status 4234 (VMware server login failure) even if the Vcenter whereby the QUERY must go is UP. Of course you can delete in credential the Vcenter who are down. But a option is more effective i think in Vmware policy. In this policy, go to Vmware Tab --> Advanced --> Vmware server list Then add the Vcenter who must be used by the QUERY. With this action, the QUERY request will inspect only this vcenter and not all Vcenter added in credential. More information about Netabckup infra : NBU Verison :7.6.0.3 Master/MDSP : Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Standard. I'm not sure if this action is a bug or not but i think is dangerous to check all vcenter when just one is needed. Previously, in 7.5.x, the job parent was in partially successful and not in failed. Hi, New to Netbackup and netbackup community. I'm looking for some help on calculating the total amount of data being backup per Month, in order to estimate capacity license. I run multiple agents like:Windows filebackup, Oracle, SQL, VMs Some of my backup policies are incremental, differential and fulls; which are weekly and monthly full. I have exported a months worth of data from the activity monitor, this export includes incremental, differential, and full information. The problem I'm having is some of the jobs like the SQL jobs have a (job schedule) that is full_onsite,Default Application, SQL - application and full, I'm not quite sure if I should be adding all of these backup into the monthly totals. Also is there a tool that I can run that would give me a Monthly totals? ThanksSolved7KViews5likes13Commentsnetbackup sql server client not working

Get the error that something is in use by another process. Most of the time it's an Office tilde file. Is there a way to ignore files that have a tilde in the filename? Related: Path not found error accessing c:\users\<user name>\ntuser.dat and c:\users\<user name>\appdata\local\microsoft\windows\usrclass.dat. The NTUSER.DAT file doesn't actually exist, at least not hours later when I actually go look for it. The other file is there though.Solved1KViews5likes4CommentsTape drive available but job is queued as "Drives are in used in storage unit"
Running Netbackup 7.1 on Win2008R2 SP1. I've got a policy that kicks off several (20+) backups of VMs. The parent job says Active, but all the children say "Queued". The state of all of the children is "Drives are in use in storage unit." Detailed status on each child job says "awaiting resource netbackup01-hcart3-robot-tld-1 - No drives are available". I've looked in the tape drive's GUI, no tape is in the drive. In Netbackup->Media and Device Management->Device Monitor, the tape drirve shows as Control=TLD, Ready=No. How do I determine what it is that's keeping the jobs from grabbing the open (only) tape drive available?Solved4.2KViews5likes4Comments
