Hi all, We are setting up some new 2012 DCs that will be backed up via agent, and a few via VM. I can't seem to find any documentation confirming that GRT restores are possible/fully supported? Hello, I am wondering what the best solution would be for the following: I have on Citrix Xen Server host that has 7 virtual machines on it. I am currently using PHD Virtual to back this up to a NAS. I am looking to move to different software for the backups. One of the virtual machines is running SQL and one is running AD and DNS. There is also one physical server that has AD, DNS, and DHCP on it that i would also like to back up in the same solution. What i was curious about is what is the best way to back all of this up? Is it Back Up Exec or System Restore? Or would neither work? I am looking for something that will back up to the existng NAS and allow for item level restores as well as fast restores of full VM's if ever needed. Second question is, assuming one of the two products will work is it best practice to install it on its own server or could it be installed on teh physical that is existing with AD, DNS and DHCP? I am assuming its own server and that is what i would shoot for, but for the sake of saving money i like to know my options. Thank you for your assistance.Solved1.3KViews0likes2CommentsNon-Authoritative Active Directory Disaster Recovery scenario
Hello all, I navigated over the topics here, and I could see that we have a lot of posts regarding Active Directory/Domain Controller, but almost all the time related to Backup Exec. My current scenario is: - We prepared a Virtual Environment out of our productive network; - We installed a Master/Media Server there, and we intend to restore from productive network, all tapes where Active Directory/Domain Controller was backed up, to Test environment; - We have AD/DC installed on Windows 2003 and 2008; When I read suggested documentation, I couldn't make sure what to do for complete recovery for AD/DC. My idea is, Install OS is all machines that we intend to recover, and so, restore System State/Shadow Copy Components. Some of you already tested the following documentation? https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/backuprestore-domain-controller The main doubt that I have is on step 5: 5. Perform a full system restore. What it means? Restore everything together (C:, System State/Shadow Copy Components)? Or I have to restore one by one, restart, etc Thank you in advance!1.1KViews0likes2CommentsBackup Exec 2012 sp2 Deduplication
HI I bought 2 Backup Exec 3600 apliances to replace my actual Backup Exec server. For the first time I will use Deduplication. One box will be on the main site an the other one to the remote site for replication I will use tapes for long-term data retention what are your advice on the frequence of the incremental/differentials and full backups? How deduplication will works for the DAG? will it be client side deduplication or not? Do you have any recommandations my environment is composed of SQL Server, Exchange 2010 SP3 Dag, Enterprise Vault Server, Windows File Server, Sharepoint Windows 2008 active directory server VmWare 5.1 servers few servers has volume (drive) connected to an ISCSI Equallogic SAN; those are backup up with Backup EXec and I want to be able to use deduplication on them thanks for your answerSolved726Views1like4CommentsData Domain Advanced Disk Pools?
I have a need to implement GRT backups in an environment without SAN disk at present. It has a Data Domain and we are currently backing up the catalog to a NFS share on the Data Domain which Netbackup sees as Advanced Disk. Can I use this same kind of disk for Active Directory and Sharepoint GRT backups? Is it supported?Solved1.2KViews0likes4Comments
