Best solution to back up Citrix Xen Server
Hello, I am wondering what the best solution would be for the following: I have on Citrix Xen Server host that has 7 virtual machines on it. I am currently using PHD Virtual to back this up to a NAS. I am looking to move to different software for the backups. One of the virtual machines is running SQL and one is running AD and DNS. There is also one physical server that has AD, DNS, and DHCP on it that i would also like to back up in the same solution. What i was curious about is what is the best way to back all of this up? Is it Back Up Exec or System Restore? Or would neither work? I am looking for something that will back up to the existng NAS and allow for item level restores as well as fast restores of full VM's if ever needed. Second question is, assuming one of the two products will work is it best practice to install it on its own server or could it be installed on teh physical that is existing with AD, DNS and DHCP? I am assuming its own server and that is what i would shoot for, but for the sake of saving money i like to know my options. Thank you for your assistance.Solved1.2KViews0likes2CommentsBESR 2010 Error EC8F1F5B - FTP Can't use "@" in username?
Offsite Copy Failure - can't seem to use the @ in user name. BESR converts @ to a \ and converts the username... For example: User name like "user1@ftpserver.com" becomes "ftpserver.com\user1" The the ftp login fails. My hosted FTP service requires that username format. Searches comes up with nothing, can someone help?361Views0likes1CommentBackup exec 12.5 & system restore 8.5 to the same NAS NOT WORKING

Hello Support, Thanx for all the help i've received in this forum. i really apreciate you all. i really need help now. i have installed BESR 2010 when it was newly released (version 9.0.0 2----- not sure exactly) and i was able to restore the recovery points i created on Windows 2003 and 2008 server and Windows 7 on desktops and laptops. I don't really have the BESR download any longer because i deleted the file last moth when i downloaded the latest version 9.0.1 36527. Installing this version and creating a recovery point on an SBS 2008 server and Windows 2008 servers for a client. To be used in the event of a disaster. i get the following display at logon "The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship". I cannot login to the SBS server using the domain credentials. I get a .\Administrator (this obviously wants a local administrator password which i don't have on the DC). I can only login to the SBS server using the domain credentials from safe mode. I try the file server and other servers on the network which also have their recovery points created and restored. i get the same login to local computer. Though on these other servers i can login using the domain credentials, but i notice that the computer names for all of the servers have changed. I was not getting this situation when i had the very first version of BESR 2010. It is strange because i checked one of the recovery points i have from the old version and i see there is a System Reserved drive (about 100MB) created. i tested a restore using this recovery point and the computer name is not changed. This updated BESR 2010 does not have any System Reserved drive created. I really want to know why the computer names have changed. I do not intend to connect these restored servers to the network to avoid IP address conflicts. I do not also intend to change the computer names as the original computers still exist on the domain. I hope i have not bored you with my note. i contacted some friends and they wanted to know if i had used VSS during the recovery point. This i did while creating the recovery point. I also tested with manually starting the VSS service before creating another one. Is there any document to specify step by step what need s to be done before i create the recovery point to avoid a computer name change? Also to aid in logging on to this SBS 2008 restored server? I will be very grateful if i can get a response. I noticed some other users have encountered similar issue with the computer name change, yet no response has been forth coming in resolving this. thank you so very much.Solved1.4KViews0likes7CommentsMedia Rotation and Management
I am new to BESR, I am used to BE. I am trying to apply what I know about media rotation in BE to BESR and I am getting confused. I have a Dell RD1000 backup drive with 3 media cartridges. What I would like to do is to have a full backup run on Monday, and then incremental backups run on Tuesday through Friday, all on the same cartridge. Then, each weekend, the cartridge would get rotated out. After three weeks, the first cartridge is back in. That one will get put in the drive and should get overwritten. With BE, the Overwrite Protection Period” can be configured to manage the media retention period. But how do you accomplish the same thing in BESR? I assume it has to do with the part about “Limiting the number of recovery point sets”. Does that value get applied per media cartridge or per backup job? I would appreciate any help that anyone can provide. I am setting this up in an office where there is no one that knows anything about computers. I just need a simple “tape-monkey” solution.573Views0likes3Comments
