Backup Symantec Enterprise Vault 9 with CommVault Simpana 9
We have a client that is running Symantec Enterprise Vault 9 and is using Commvault Simpana 9 as their backup solution. Is there an CommVault Simpana 9 agent for Symantec Enterprise Vault? Hi, Breaking this question out from another thread. Having installed the new HTTP only client, I can see an Enterprise Vault menu in Outlook 2010, with the new "Store" and "Restore" buttons. However, trying to archive produces the error "You cannot archive items from this location",. and restoring produces "You cannot restore items to this location. If you are trying to restore from a shortcut, copy and move it to your mailbox and then restore". (This info is erroneous). Double-clicking on a vaulted item, however, restores it. Rob has suggested that it sounds like I'm trying to archive something in my virtual vault folders. Unfortunately I'm not sure what's meant by virtual vault folders. Could you possible me how to produce a client log file as suggested? We are presently running version 9 and Exchange 2003. hello, i have upgraded our EV Environment to EV 9.0.1. We are using Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2010 on the client. Since i have a problem with mailboxes which where disabled prior to the upgrade not archiving any mails, i have an ongoing support call with symantec. they asked me to zap the mailboxes using evpm and try again. According to other threads this could really sort things out, but unfortunately i am unable to create the privileged MAPI Session. i am alwas getting the following: Creating privileged MAPI session ... Error creating privileged MAPI session The eventlog shows the following error: An error has been reported by ConfigureMsgService. It may be due to a problem contacting a Global Catalogue Server. Exchange Server: PLATSRV055 Mailbox: _evs@pierre-lang.com Error: MAPI_E_NETWORK_ERROR 0x80040115Creating privileged MAPI session ... Error creating privileged MAPI session According to Symantec Support this refers to a problem with the Global Catalog and i should use a registry key to use a certain global catalog. According to Microsoft this setting is no longer in use with exchange server 2010 and should not be used! Exchange 2010 uses the Client Access Server instead. I have no idea how to zap the mailboxes. Any Ideas what could cause the problem? I am using the Vault Service Account and i am logged on to the server console with the vault service account. the problem exists for 4 months now and i am getting tired trying the different things.Solved2.4KViews0likes5CommentsProblem Synchronizing Virtual Vault to User

We need an EV Outlook add-in service pack or upgrade that works in Outlook 2010. Your Enterprise Vault 9 product , not due until the end of the year, is far to late for us to wait. I am rather shocked that a company such as Symantec would not have already issued updates that provide functionality with major player new software. THis is a major disappointment. Hello all, We are currently running an old EV 7 setup with Exchange. I recently setup EV 9 on new hardware, as the hardware that 7 is running on is old and almost end of life, so I did not want to upgrade. I have the new 9.0 setup archiving a few test e-mail accounts as well as my own account. Everything is working fine except for the Outlook 2010 HTTP-Only Add-in. It seems that the add-in is pointing to EV 7 server. After I install the Outlook add-in, when I first run Outlook, I get the error message "This Version of the Enterprise Vault Outlook Add-in is not compatible with the Enterprise Vault server version." Then when I try to pull something from the archive, I get "Your account does not have access to the vault containing this item. Try using the same logon details you would use to log on to Microsoft Exchange Server. Do you want to log on to Enterprise Vault under another account?" If I click 'YES', the provide username/password logon box pops up, and I notice that it is trying to log me on to our old Enterprise Vault setup, version 7. I am assuming this is because I used to have the version 7 Outlook add-in installed. However, I uninstalled this prior to installing the new Outlook 2010 add-in for version 9. There must still be some data or registry information leftover that is telling the add-in to try to connect to the old server. Has anyone run across this problem? Thank you for any help in advance!Solved1.9KViews0likes11CommentsUnable to retrieve archived item from Virtual Vault
Hello, I have a customer who is attempting to retrieve several items from thier Virtual Vault. Most items are returned properly, however there are also a considerable number that return the following error: Enterprise Vault is unable to retrieve this archived item. There was a problem opening this item. Try again later. The first line of the email body does show up properly in the preview pane in Outlook. However dobule clicking the message for retrieval produces the error listed above. If the customer opens the message through the Search Vault cleint then it is returned without error so we are reasonably certain this issue is specific to this customers Virtual Vault. For a straightforward EV 10 installation with about 10 TB of only File System Archiving data, using the NetBackup agent for EV to backup vault stores, indexes, etc, how do I choose a backup strategy? I've searched this forum, read http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH172279 and DOC4933 and the article: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/enterprise-vault-backups-best-practice and understand the need for and different sources of EV data needing backups, but I cannot find any good advice on trade-offs between daily fulls, weekly fulls, daily incrementals, etc. Do the trade-offs between various backup strategies (RTO, RPO) that we consider for lets say ordinary file system backups apply equally as much to the EV backups, or is there an advantage - for example - of daily fulls over and above the shorter RTO you generally get with daily full backups (not having to apply daily incrementals to get latest)? I have seen that closed vault stores (and indexes?) should be backed up less frequenly - perhaps a weekly full only - so my question is more around EV 'non-closed' stores/indexes/etc. I realize this may be a complex subject - perhaps we could start with a simple strategy and poke holes in it: Weekly fulls of all EV data Daily differential incremental (NetBackup term for ordinary incremental of changes since yesterday's backup) of active data and SQL databases. Retain perhaps a month's work of weeklies and then retain monthlies until tape copies are made. Thanks.Solved1.7KViews0likes3Comments
