EV 11.0.1Backup Exec 15
I am trying to configure BE15 to work with EV11, but I can't find any documentation on how to setup backups correctly. I found how to do it with NetBackup and other older versions of BE but nothing related to BE15 specifically. I have the agents licensed correctly, however, when I attempt to deploy an agent to the EV server I can only install a "Windows Agent". I am not sure if that's correct or not because BE sees the server as a regular server after installation. Some Symantec documentation mentions the ability to expand "Enterprise Vault" section during backup job config but it's missing when attempting to configure the job. After the installation of the agent on the SQL server hosting EV DBs it shows up as "Directory" in the BE Console. How do I backup my open and closed/ready partitions seperately? How do I backup index locations? Very frustrating...
Backing up secondary storage locaion that's an EMC Data Domain
Hey folks, I recently integrated Enterprise Vault with one of our Data Domain deduplication appliances - which involves having EV create collections and migrating them off to the Data Domain. That works fine. BUT - now I am realizing that the EV backup agent does not reach out to the secondary storage location of the vault store to back that up. We have a data domain at our DR site, and one at our main site. They have the capability of replicating to each other and also scheduling snapshots as a way of backing up a point in time, however restoration is all or nothing. Right now, I've configured Backup Exec 2012 to backup the CIFS share of one data domain to another as a means of backup and redundancy. Doing CIFS backups are pretty slow, but offer the ability to pick what I want to restore if needed. I'm looking for some comments or suggestions on backing up this secondary location...How to properly backup Enterprise Vault with agents
Since we got Enterprise Vault, backups have been a pain. I've really wanted to focus on getting them correct, and have spent the last few days making changes, doing test backups. Seems like when I fix one issue, another arises. So I need some help! Here's the enviornment. I've got 2 Enterprise Vault servers, EV1 (pretty much does everything)and EV2 (only Discovery Accelerator) and both servers have their databases on SQL1 (only EV databases). All servers are virtual, and we have all the proper agents. Running EV 10.0.4 and BE 2012 SP3. Typically we run daily incrimental backups, with fulls on Saturdays. Problems that I am having are mostly with SQL backups. Either it complains that no transaction logs are backed up, or that some other application has already backed up the database, so changes are now out of sync. According to Symantec's best practice, all the databases of EV should be set to recovery mode Full. The EV Agent jobs don't allow me to tweak any SQL stuff. Theres no SQL section, so I have to do that elsewhere, but then I get the errors about something else backing up the databases. I also have AVVI backups of these servers, but have learned that having them set to GRT backups will disrupt SQL backups, so I've got that turned off for the AVVI backup of SQL1. Without getting too crazy detailed in the description with my backups - can someone give a suggestion here? I know backups without the EV agent are more painful, but EV agent backups should be easier than this! Thanks in advance!
How to unregister a decommissioned EV server from Backup Exec EV selection site
Hello, I have decommissioned yesterday a secondary Enterprise Vault server (9.0.3) by following the following procedure: http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-remove-ev-server-your-site All seems to be fine on the EV side, but Backup Exec 2013 R3 returns an error when it tried to run the scheduled Incremental backup of EV using the BE agent. (error 0xe000846b) When trying to repopulate the EV selection list, deleted selections and re-selecting EV selections, it returns a communications failure. I then started up the decommissioned EV server and uninstalled the Backup Exec Remote Agent and restarted the agent on the remaining EV server, but still no luck in getting the Selection List configured. Does anyone know what needs to be done to unregister the decommissioned server from the EV site in Backup Exec, respectively to re-register the EV site from scratch?
