Is Exchange 2013 supported with SSR 2013?
Hi there, We've just purchased SSR 2013 for a customer, and when I looked in the User Guide prior to purchase, it said this: "Symantec System Recovery supports Exchange Server 2003 or later, which implements VSS technology" on page 292. They are running it on Server 2012 R2, which I now see is supported. However when I look in the Release notes and Software compatibility list, I see no reference to Exchange 2013. Can someone help me out with an up-to-date answer? I can see questions about this topic, but they are a year old. Is Exchange 2013 supported in SP2? Thanks, Steve.Solved1.3KViews2likes8CommentsBackupo Exec System Recovery doesn't delete Exchange log files
Dear All, I'm having a problem with BESR 2010 on one server of mine. Simply it doesn't delete Exchange log files. I tryed with VSS and without VSS option activated but the result is always the same. This server is a MS SBS 2003. The Support answer is: "As for your question actually when we select "Enable full VSS" it does not actually deletes the commited log but it reads the updated "heckpoint"file to inform how many logs are actually commited. As BESR does not works on API level (because it works on sector level)it is incapable of deleting the commited logs.So in short it just informs you the status of the checkpoint file." I think the answer is wrong becase on other serversexchange log files are deleted every full or incremental backup. Every week I have a problem with Exchange services because they stop due to a disk full problem. Has anyone an idea about why BESR doesn't delete Exchange log file only on this server?? Thaks a lot! I have a new Dell PowerEdge T410 server (Server 2008 Enterprise R2) that acts as our BUE 2010 Media Server. It has an external HP Ultrium 1840 tape drive. I have a new Dell PowerEdge R610 server (Server 2008 enterprise R2) that acts as our MS Exchange 2008 server. It has an external EqualLogic PS4000 array with 4TB of space. I have a SAN set-up using dual Dell PowerConnect 5424 switches. Each server has dual NICs; one each to the SAN switch and the LAN. Trying to accomplish Off Host Backups of my Information Stores. Consistent failure. Hours online with Symantec technical support and Dell technical support have been unfruitful. Does anyone have any experience with Symantec's Off Host backups?602Views0likes3CommentsNeed info about BESR
I have been using symantec BESR 8.5 for a very long time and I' very happy with it. But not I've migrated all my desktops to win7 and my server to win 2008 R2, all 64bit. I'm thinking to buy BESR 2010, but I need some informations: 1.I have a server running hyper-v with 6-7 VM running on it, all with win server 2008 R2, and about 5 desktops. Do I need a licence for each VM and each desktop? or is there some value pack? 2.What's the difference between Backup exec and backup exec system recovery? I saw that there are some plug-ins for backup exec, sutch as for exchange and for hyper-v, while there aren't for BESR server edition, why? 3.Where can I buy thos products? In the Itaian online store there is no such product, the web site tells me that desktop edition was available on online store but there isn't To be more exact about questions 1-2: I have the server running Hyper-V, and many VM on it. I whant to protect the physical server and all the VM. One of the VM has Exchange 2010. And I have some desktops. What configurations would you suggest me? What licences do I need? I what to be able to manage all the backups centrally, so I'll need also BESR manager I suppose, but how many other licences do I need, and of what kind? And finally, I read that BESR manager 2010 doesn't run on win 2008. When a new version running of 2008 is going to be released? I think that maybe I'll wait for it to buy all the licences920Views0likes9CommentsBESR2010 fails on Exchange 2007

Hello Support, Thanx for all the help i've received in this forum. i really apreciate you all. i really need help now. i have installed BESR 2010 when it was newly released (version 9.0.0 2----- not sure exactly) and i was able to restore the recovery points i created on Windows 2003 and 2008 server and Windows 7 on desktops and laptops. I don't really have the BESR download any longer because i deleted the file last moth when i downloaded the latest version 9.0.1 36527. Installing this version and creating a recovery point on an SBS 2008 server and Windows 2008 servers for a client. To be used in the event of a disaster. i get the following display at logon "The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship". I cannot login to the SBS server using the domain credentials. I get a .\Administrator (this obviously wants a local administrator password which i don't have on the DC). I can only login to the SBS server using the domain credentials from safe mode. I try the file server and other servers on the network which also have their recovery points created and restored. i get the same login to local computer. Though on these other servers i can login using the domain credentials, but i notice that the computer names for all of the servers have changed. I was not getting this situation when i had the very first version of BESR 2010. It is strange because i checked one of the recovery points i have from the old version and i see there is a System Reserved drive (about 100MB) created. i tested a restore using this recovery point and the computer name is not changed. This updated BESR 2010 does not have any System Reserved drive created. I really want to know why the computer names have changed. I do not intend to connect these restored servers to the network to avoid IP address conflicts. I do not also intend to change the computer names as the original computers still exist on the domain. I hope i have not bored you with my note. i contacted some friends and they wanted to know if i had used VSS during the recovery point. This i did while creating the recovery point. I also tested with manually starting the VSS service before creating another one. Is there any document to specify step by step what need s to be done before i create the recovery point to avoid a computer name change? Also to aid in logging on to this SBS 2008 restored server? I will be very grateful if i can get a response. I noticed some other users have encountered similar issue with the computer name change, yet no response has been forth coming in resolving this. thank you so very much.Solved1.4KViews0likes7CommentsBESR 2010 unable to granular restore emails
We have recently installed BESR backup on our SBS 2003, running exchange 2003. The backups seem to be working fine. I can open a backup and restore a file, but emails fail. It stops while 'prepareing Message Store' with the following error: Error encountered while attempting to prepare the Message STore 'Mailbox Store ***'. It suggests 1) make sure backup is while exchange is not busy (it's backing up at 1am), 2) ensure all storage grouop are included (It's backs up the whole drive in the server, so no chance of not doing this.) I have had a look at the Windows log files and it seems to give this error everytime I try to open the mailstore GranularRestore (16864) ?Volume{f3a5f7cd-cc64-11df-8b13-001d600a27e6}Program FilesExchsrvrmdbdata: An attempt to open the file "\\?\Volume{f3a5f7cd-cc64-11df-8b13-001d600a27e6}\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\E00.log" for read / write access failed with system error 5 (0x00000005): "Access is denied. I am evaluating BESR to replace Backup Exec 12.5. My first impressions are that I love its simplicity and speed. We only do B2D and it’s 8 times faster than exec. The exchange integration looks wonderful; however the restores are too flaky to even consider this as a serious product. First full backup of exchange. On restore about 20% of the restored emails look like they are in Korean characters! Tested on different mailboxes and stores There seems to be a problem with restoring a mailbox. It crashes at 827,841 KB (at the same message each time) with a C++ runtime error – C:\Program files\symantec\.. "the application has . requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way." Now way round this, repeatable time after time. I see I’m not the only one with this problem https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/2010-granular-restore-c-runtime-error-restorebut no solution offered. The same result is found on 3 different computers running XP and Win7. and with two different backup jobs. So basically on restore you can get some of the messages back, and those that you can rescue might be unreadable. It’s an awesome product, such a pity it doesn’t restore reliably. I’d love for a Symantec tech to dive in here and give me some solutions – I need to be able to trust that my backups will work when it comes to it All jobs set to verify W2003 Exchange 2003 BESR 2010 with latest live update Mailbox sixe 2.6 GB Thanks Chris632Views0likes3Comments
