System Recovery Agent invalid environment (which environment is a valid one?)
Hello, I am running a testing version of Symantec System Recovery 2013 Server Edition. I tried to install its remote agent on windows 2008 domain controller but it fails. It says the environment is invalid. What would be an valid enviroment ? Don't understand why the domain controller os is invalid. The file download was aborted abnormally. The file is incomplete. (UMI:V-281-211-60352) (error message is in german) Can anyone help me ? Hello everyone, Please, I need help with this one: when I try to deploy the agent on another laptop on my workgrouop the next error appears: -Error E0D3EBC0: Cannot deploy the Agent to USER-PC. --USER-PC, Exception occurred: Attempt to connect to remote machine failed. Then I use the "reconnect" option on the Symantec System Recovery Service Connection Screen and connection error is displayed. I have eliminated as much Possible Causes as I could: 1)Computer is not connected to the network. (Connected) 2)Firewall of the target computer is ON. (Firewall is off) 3)Supported Backup Exec System Recovery or Symantec System Recovery client is not installed on the target computer. (It is not supposed that an agent can be remotely instaled to my clients??, I'm confused) 4)User credentials are incorrect. (Eliminated cause) 5)UAC (User Access Control) security policy is enabled on the computer. (I'm alouding remote assistance connetions for all computers on my workgoup. Do I need to config anything else? This part is no really clear for me...) Besides of all of this, I've checked thatDistributed COM is enabled on this computer as on all the others. Summarizing, I have no a clue about what I'm doing wrong or what the problem is, hope someone can help me. I thank you in advance.Solved2.9KViews0likes8CommentsManually install altiris agent and register with the notification server ?

This does not happen to all of the computers I try and connect to, just the newer models ones. I have been deploying the 2010 agent from my computer to remote PCs and up until now, I have had no problems. When I try to connect to a remote computer that is giving me problems, it asks for network credentials. No matter what I put in it will not let me connect. However, I can deploy the agent to the machine, but after that I can not connect to it to manage it. This has only been happening on newer machines, If we reimage the machine then most of the time it will start working. Sometimes we have to reimage it two or three times. Any ideas? I just find it strange that this only happens on our brand new machines. They are all running XP Pro. Below is an image of the message I receive when trying to connect.2.7KViews0likes21CommentsHow to Rid the Registry of Altiris ?
I have 35 systems with which I installed the Altiris Agent, BESR Plug In, and BESR 2010 through the (Altiris) Management Solution console. For a number of reasons I want to dump the Altiris Management Solution and manage these systems individually as standalone BESR 2010 installations. As part of the ensuing uninstall/reinstall process I want to completely remove all Altiris entries from the registry – and there are hundreds of them. When installing the Altiris agent via policy from the Management Console there is the option to install it such that it creates an entry in Windows Add/Remove Programs. I did not notice this till after most of the client installs were completed. However, even when using this option, the Altiris registry entries are not removed. Elsewhere on the Symantec web site I have seen the following steps given as the recommended way of removing the Altiris agent; Run the following command line to remove the Altiris Agent using AeXAgentUtil.exe located by default at C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\AeXAgentUtil.exe /uninstallagents /clean (*) Delete the following Program Files folder if still present: C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent (**) Delete the following Registry key if still present: HKLM\Software\Altiris However this does not begin to remove all the registry entries. So, does Symantec provide a way to efficiently and completely uninstall their product? Specifically the Altiris agent registry entries.2.4KViews1like7CommentsFormer Ghost 15 user - Getting trapped in the SSR 2013 Trial
A few days ago I had an issue with doing a system restore using Ghost 15. I went to that forum for help and learned that Symantec was going to discontinue Ghost and recommended users "check out" SSR 2013 with its free trial. I downloaded the free trial and eventually learned it would not install unless I first remove Ghost. That wasn't from anything that I saw when the SSR installation failed; that happened without any additional information. However, I did eventually find my way to this forum and a helpful Guru pointed out the issue and also that I could always re-install Ghost if I wasn't happy with SSR. I uninstalled Ghost, installed SSR, and started backing stuff up. Now, if one of the things you want to do is a full system restore (my primary interest)then you need a recovery disk. SSR will make a recovery disk for you and all you need to do is provide an activation key which you don't get with the trial version. No problem, as all I need to do is install Ghost. But I can't install Ghost until I uninstall SSR. And SSR WILL NOT UNINSTALL. Whenever I try to uninstall it there's an Error 2738 and something about a VBasic error. So now I have a trial verision of a program that I can't use and a paid for program I can no longer load. I guess it can all be fixed if I pay Symantec for an activation key for a program that I'm not sure I want in the hopes it will maybe allow me to upgrade to a latter version that can uninstall so I can install the program I uninstalled so I could evaluate the Free Trial. To put it another way, I may have to pay Symantec to I can remove their free software and load back the software I paid them for as well. And, even it it turns out there's a simple, and hopefully less expensive, way out of this I've still wasted a lot of time on what should be a free trial of a comercial product which appears to be more of an alpha test. (If I sound upset, it's because I really am)2.4KViews3likes12CommentsSystem Recovery 2013 Server Edition vs Small Business Edition?
Hi! On our good old Windows XP machines for backup and recovery in our small business we used Symantec's Norton Ghost and Acronis True Image. Now we are switching to Windows 8.1 and will also add a Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials (the new Microsoft Small Business Server). Because Microsoft's built-in free backup cannot be configured with advanced options and does not seem to be very reliable we are now looking for a new and hopefully better small business (paid) solution. What we actually need is an imaging solution with backup tasks that can be targeted at lokal disks as well as network shares and USB disks attached to the server for offsite rotation. Automatic nightly backups through wake on LAN or BIOS wake up timer are needed, so the backup solution should be also able to turn off the PCs after backup. Unfortunately, it turns out that there are not any reliable solutions out there in 2014! We tested Acronis business products which turned out to have nice features but are very unreliable and unusable in the end. We tested ARCserve which is ok but cannot be configured much, it actually offers only a single backup task and does not have Win 8.1 support, although it claims to be certified for this OS already - they wanted to send me some internal beta patches but we did not accept this. And so finally we came to System Recovery 2013 which was actually not easy to find between all the other solutions on the market, maybe it is the lack of marketing information available... So we finally tested SSR 2013 SP2 on our Win 8.1 desktops and it seems to work fine - better than the other solutions. There are not many changes compared to Norton Ghost but it does its job, can be configured with advanced options and that's what we need. Now the problem with Symantec System Recovery 2013 is that there is too few information on this product and there is nobody to ask. You want to buy a product and there is no info - really annoying! In the key features you read about Win 8.1 / Server 2012 R2 support (and it seems to be available through SP2) but nobody seems to care to update this info in the system requirements on Symantec's website. Does not sound very promising for a business product. The situation is even worse when looking for information about the Server editions of SSR. There is a Server Edition and a Small Business Server Edition. But what is the difference? Can they backup Hyper-V virtual machines? From the host? From the guest? Is Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials supported in the SBS edition? The Essentials Server is actually Microsoft's new small business server so it should... I requested a callback from Symantec here in Germany but nobody seems to care. It is also still unclear how many licenses I need. In the new Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials Microsoft allows to install the OS on the physical host + on one free Hyper-V server VM. Is this Hyper-V VM also covered by the SSR Small Business Server Edition license? Do I need any additional agents if I need to backup from the physical server AND from whithin the virtual Hyper-V server (file level recovery is needed)? How much will it finally cost? I don't find any docs especially for the server editions and I don't see any clear Hyper-V licensing statements. Again, very disappointing for a business product. But maybe someone here can provide more info to help us in our decision? Thanks in advance. Hi Everyone, We successfully deploy SSR 2013 on Windows Server 2003 R2 but problem arised when we try to deploy it on an Active Directory Server. After successful installation, the server requires a reboot. But when we reboot it, the server failed to boot on Windows. What we do is to uninstall the SSR 2013 so that it can boot properly. We try other vesion of SSR like 2011 but same error occurs. The credential we used on installing SSR has an administrator rights. I would like to know if SSR 2013 and 2011 has compatibility problem on Active Directory and what we can do to fix it? Thanks in advance..:)2.1KViews0likes16Comments
