ApplicationHA on LPAR with VCS and SRDF replication agent
Hello, I am evaluating AppllicationHA in my environment which is composed of LPARs in two frames installed in two separate sites. The LPARs are accesing two EMC storage VMAX and there is a replication link using SRDF. We are not able to use Live Partition Mobility between the two PowerSystem Servers because there is not an storage shared betweem them. For this reason we will like to use a VCS management cluster installed in the frames (one node on each PowerSystem Server) and this VCS cluster is using SRDF replication agent. My question is if we configure applicationHA in this VCS management cluster to protect a LPAR, can this LPAR use the VCS with SRDF agent? Doing so, we will solve our limitation and we will be able to relocate the LPAR to the other frame automatically. Thanks and best regards Osvaldo1.5KViews2likes1CommentApplicationHA 6.1, ESXi 5.5 and SQL 2012 problems
Hi all, Just wondering if anyone out there might be able to throw a bit of advice my way. Currently evaluating AppHA on VMWare (AppHA 6.1 and ESXi 5.5 hosts) with the view to buying as on paper it does exactly what we want. I've installed the High Availability Console server which has plugged into vCenter nicely, installed the ApplicationHA agent onto a VM running Windows 2012 DC R2 and SQL 2012, again all going smoothly up to this point. Now I get around to testing the agent out. I'm doing this by stopping the sql server and sql agent services on the VM and waiting for AppHA to kick in and restart both services, this is when I'm getting into a little trouble. Firstly the services do not shut down as cleanly as when the agent is not configured on the VM, a message pops up saying that windows could not stop the SQL server and that the service did not return an error, helpful I know. This does not happen when the agent is not configured on the VM, the services shut down fine. Secondly when the agent is configured and the services finally shut down, the AppHA plugin for the VM in vCenter displays a faulted status and that the SQL server service is not running and that the SQL agent service could not started. AppHA just sits there and does nothing, it does not restart the services as it should do. Now it's probably something I've done during setup but being new to the product I cannot see what, I have followed all the install pdf's and have read them over many times, I just cannot see what I may have done wrong as the setup seems simple enough. Or am I testing the product in the wrong fashion? As I'm only in evaluation mode I have no technical support with Symantec so any help with this would be very much appreciated as we are looking at buying this product and at the moment this is the final piece of the test I need to get working (probably the most important part) before I can turn to the bean counters and ask for some cash. Many Thanks LeeSolved2.4KViews1like2CommentsUnable to integrate guest components on the ApplicationHA console

Dear Experts, We are using the Veritas HA cluster to configure our ERP Application on Virtual Hostname. Hello, I encountered following problem: my customer's application is integrated in VCS (running on linux) - in one of many service groups (SGs). The application is in VCS implemented via Application agent type of resource - it contains scripts for bringing it online/offline/clean action as well as monitoring. After some time it was found out that the customer does not require and need monitoring and cleaning actions at all. The only thing he expects from VCS is to bring the application resource online (or offline) when the whole SG is going online (offline). I am considering how to achieve this. Is it possible to leave out monitoring and clean action from application resource? Is there any other available type of resource (agent) which could do just this? Or should I look for postonline trigger script? If the option is trigger script I would like to see some example. There will be more such applications running on different nodes. Thanks in advance for your opinions/tips. i.2.1KViews1like8CommentsUnable to configure appha on vmguest after installation. Admin page over port 5634 not accessible

Hi, I am attempting to configure the DetailMonitor = 1 option of the Oracle resource in a service group but am running into LogonUser failed error messages in the Oracle_A.txt file. The issue is with the user / domain and password I am using and, I assume, the inability of VCS to connect to the installed Oracle database I have specified under SID. In an attempt to check this I have attempted to use my own administration account to get this to work but am having no luck, the account in question does work when running "sqlplus / as sysdba" and I am able to run the sql select * from v$database; query that VCS is attempting to execute on the Oracle database. My first question is does anyone know what command is being run by VCS to connect to the database as its not shown in the log files? My second question is does anyone know what I am doing wrong and what permissions will be required by the account VCS uses as I am in a highly locked down environment so have to work within the security framework. main.cf Oracle XXX_SG-Oracle { ServiceName = OracleServiceXXX DelayAfterOnline = 30 DelayAfterOffline = 30 DetailMonitor = 1 Domain = "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" SID = xxx UserName = xxxxxxxxxx EncryptedPasswd = xxxxxxxxxxx SQLFile = "\"C:\\Program Files\\Veritas\\Cluster Server\\bin\\Oracle\\Check.sql\"" SQLTimeOut = 30 } It should be noted that the resource will work fine with the DetailMonitor = 0. During implementation of AppHA where the agent is monitoring several services in the same guest we have noticed that if one service stops, the agent will try to restart all services monitored. Is this "by design" or have we done something wrong while configuring the GenericService agent? /ASolved989Views0likes2Comments
