Hi Guys, Im taking oracle backups but jobs are taking too long, these oracle instances are on AIX 7.1 and are running on IBM Power 8. I need to know if there is a way to zone this hardware with 5230 appliance in orden to take SAN backups, because POWER 8 has HBA cards. How the zoning would go??Solved1.3KViews0likes7CommentsZoning Aix to Netbackup 5230
Hi guys, I just create a zone between AIX (LPAR), 5230 appliance and a storage like this As you can the AIXserver has two FC adapter each one belongs to a zone, butsometimes I lose visibility from netbackup so I have to go to the client and run cfgmgr command or even restart clients services. Then on AIX server I run some commands like this root@PRECBPHCDB]:/usr/openv/netbackup/bin>lsdev -Cc tape The output Im getting is: rmt0 Available 42-T1-01 Other FC SCSI Tape Drive rmt1 Available 44-T1-01 Other FC SCSI Tape Drive rmt2 Available 44-T1-01 Other FC SCSI Tape Drive [root@PRECBPHCDB]:/usr/openv/netbackup/bin>tail It is normal to get"Other FC SCSI Tape drive". Should I install a Veritas driver o something like that?561Views0likes1CommentIBM AIX PowerVM and Appliance
We are considering replacing our tape library with an Appliance, 5230. We have multiple IBM Power servers (P770, E870) with 100+ AIX clients. Each currently has a media server which is SAN attached to the tape library. The AIX clients on the same Power server connect to the media server via the internal hypervisor network. We have multiple Oracle database (3Tb) environments. One of the existing media servers is also the master server. We're not clear on how the new configuration would work, and sales is struggling to clarify. Do we keep the media servers and they would be SAN attached to the 5230? Is the SAN client or Fiber Transport feature needed? Neither are in use now. We are concerned about sharing the existing virtual fiber network with both data I/O and backup I/O. The SAN client best practices guide says not to do this. We would like to discuss this with a customer that is currently using an Appliance on IBM Power running AIX. I already have plenty of "it should work", "sounds reasonable", etc... from sales, but they are unable to locate a solid reference. Thanks in advance for any assistance.1.5KViews0likes8CommentsCan I import contents of 5230 appliance to another master?
Hi, Good day! Need your expertise on this one. We're running 2 master servers: Master1 runs on an AIX box with Netbackup 7.1 and a catalog size of 500GB, Master2 is a 5230 Appliance runningon RHEL with Netbackup version 7.5 and catalog size of 200GB. I am planning to upgrade Master1 to version 7.7 and changeMaster2 to a Media Server on Master1. What can I do to the catalog of Master2 so that its data can be seen after migration? Merging of catalog takes a long time and was looking for quicker alternatives. Is it possible to just import disks from the 5230 after it is introduced to Master1? Hi everyone, We've recently installed a few 5230's (2.6.0.4) and I'm trying to configure a SAN Client to it. I've successfully done this with a couple of Windows servers so far but AIX (6.1) is giving me trouble. The client was a Media Server so I did the steps required in the Symantec doc, uninstalled the media install, installed as a client and ran bpclntcmd -sanclient 1. Zoning is in place and I can run an FCPing between the two ports on the switch to confirm they are indeed zonned and the both are up and running. I've rebooted both the 5230 and the AIX server but it still can't see the appliance. The Atape driver is installed and commited (v. 12.8.9.0) so there should be no issue. I've unconfigured it all and also tried rezoning to a second wwn on both the server and the appliance but it still won't pick up the two python devices. Is there something I'm missing or can do to force detection ? Any help would be great, I'm going bald here trying to figure this out. My Environment : Master Server Windows 2012 NetBackup Master 7.6.0.1 Media Server NetBackup Appliance 5230 NetBackup 2.6.1 Client AIX 6.1 TL8 NetBackup client 7.6.0.1 I just install 2 x client and enable SAN as transport. i create policy and test with individual client, all goes well, transport type : FT But, when i try to use the cluster name to do backup, it use LAN. i double check that the nbemmcmd, my cluster name only show as app_cluster and no client entry, i not sure what have i miss during the configuration or this is a bug for this version.1.7KViews0likes6CommentsFibre Transport backups of Informix and DB2 report buffer out of sequence
Master: 7.5.0.7 running on W2k8 R2 Media Server: 5230 running 2.5.6 Clients running 7.5.0.4 We have three AIX LPARS running on the same physical chasis. I can back up their filesystems over Fibre Transport just fine unless I'm also (not simoltaniously on the same box) running a DB2 or Informix backup (either all three or two of the three different combinations at once). Then one of the two or three things running (again, one per LPAR) will throw an out of sequence error and bomb out. So: Filesystem alone: works Filesystem on one box + DB2 on another: error Filesystem on one box + Informix on another: error DB2 on one box + Informix on another: error If I change the DB2 box and the Informix box over to "don't use fibre even if it's there" then everything works great. Slower but great. Per our Fibre guy the overall traffic (NetBackup plus what the boxes use reading/writing the SAN) isn't even hitting 2 GB out of a possible 8 GB link. And the AIX folks say all the drivers (LPAR and host) were updated last December. I've played around with shrinking the buffer size while increasing the number of buffers (divide one by 2 and multiply the other by 2, that sorta thing) with no apriciable change... So do I just give up and declare Fibre Transport a lost cause when a database is involved? Or has someone managed to get this kinda thing working?594Views0likes4CommentsDARS DATABASE UPDATE Fails
I need to perform an oracle cloned restore from OPSCENTER. I added the ORACLE_METADATA=YES entry in the bp.conf of the oracle user;s home directory. Now when I run a backup the backup successds but the DARS DATABASE UPDATE fails with the following: Error bprd (pid=30542) Failed sending the results of the backup to DARS entity mismatch in Start - expecting Database, but found StatusMsg Error bprd (pid=30542) Failed to store the results of the backup in the DARS database We are running Netbackup appliances on the latest version and using Netbackup 7.5.0.6 running oracle 11G on AIX 6.1. The end of the dbclient log displays this: <16> int_PerformMetadataCataloging: ERR - Failed to run metadata catalog command Without the DARS DB Update completing I won't be able to perform the oracle clone from Opscenter. I saw this was an issue in past forums with Oracle 9 and the issue was resolved anyway in 7.5 so why am I getting these errors and what can I do to resolve it?476Views0likes1Comment
