About duplicating tapes or cloning tapes
Good morning to everybody! I have a need and I would like to know if it is possible to solve it. I have a backup stored on physical tapes, which is very important to the business. For auditing purposes, it is often required to restore the backups that are on those tapes. But due to business protocols, it is not possible to leave the tapes inside the library forever. Worflow is: - Restoration is requested - Tapes are ordered from the supplier - Tapes are placed in the library - Data is restored - Tapes are removed and delivered to the supplier. So, I would like to know if it is possible to "clone" or copy the tape to another physical tape, in this way we can store the "original" tapes in the provider, and we would leave the "cloned" ones in the library for the purposes of frequent restorations. Is it possible to do this? Or, failing that, is it possible to duplicate the images (stored in a tape) onto another tape? If possible, I would be grateful if you can guide me. In short, we are asked to have a 2nd copy of the images that are hosted on tapes, on other tapes. My environment is: NetBackup Appliance, NetBackup 8.1.2

Hello. I added my vsan vcenter to my vmware access hosts and it synced. When trying to back up any vm, snapshot takes a long time and stops with below error. Can you help? Netbackup Appliance with vmware Error 23
Hi all. Recently i implement an appliance. I dont have any SAN connectivity, also I use the appliance as backup host. Once I start any backup from any of my both vcenter, snapshot is taken but when backup starts it has below errors. Did anybody face this before? Netbackup failed to obtain SSO Certificate using VMWare vCloud Suite APIs
Hi We have two netbackup appliance 3.1.1, 5240 in two datacenters one virtulized NBU-master with 8.11. Installation is rather straigth. This problem is somehow related to vmware backup. A bit of the setup for that policy: letsay one databox called dc007 (the faulty one) and dc008 (the goodone) Policytype: VMware disable client-side deduplication use Accelerator Standard schedule Select automatically through VMware intelligent Policy Query (yee.. short this one) empty box "Enable vCloud Director integration". (we dont use cloud in any circomstans) Advanced settings (the imortant one) virtual machine quisce - enable snapshot retry 2 Snapshot creation intervals 10 (rest is no or 0 or disabled Transport SAN Problem This policy has stopped work after a reboot on the appliance otherwice all same (what i can remeber). This works: Query builder with one object in Like "displayname equal <hostname>" when the dc007 is the media server and i run a TEST Query and run the work. Same query on the other appliance box as "Netbackup host to perform autmatic virtual machine selection This doesnt work: Multiple lines in the query when dc007 is media server do the work, gives FAILED with the error "2018-nov-0709:57:30-Errornbpem(pid=5076) FailedtoobtainSSOcertificateusingVMwarevCloudSuiteAPIs, msg=[com.vmware.vapi.std.errors.Unauthenticated:Unauthenticated (com.vmware.vapi.std.errors.unauthenticated)=>{" Change this do the DC008 it goes well or the NBU-Master What I've done so far Rebooted the master server Rebooted the media server Restarted the service Have an ongoing ticket with Veritas (good fellow) ;). Netbackup value and planning
Dear All, Sorry if I send the message to improper place, but I did not find better. This converstaion is going to be a bit deep but I try to summ up. I am in front of change and planning our outdated backup solution. Presently we have NB 7.5 master servers (2) in windows 2008 they are on our outdated HP servers with EMC vnx dedupe storage. The deduped data is around 8-10TB so this looks not a big ammount also some more on tape. Backups mostly from vmware and some oracle rman backups with couple physical server backups.(with one drs site) Presently we are on the planning phase. Costs and investment budget are low :(. Our netbackup licence is still purchased for this year. I still a bit clueless. As for the on premis netbackup appliance looks the best solution but very expensive. Other idea was data domain with NB but that is not really good because it also needs to buy new servers for master, plus it also needs NB licences yearly for continuity. In that case we should rather move to a less expensive simple backup solution other storage solution. Besides if we move to a different backup solution nb msdp should be migrated to the new enviroment. I am also not sure how complicated it should be or that is possible at all to migrate all the data. So many question and still not know where to move.

Using ansible to automate client updates/upgrades or tasks on netbackup 7/8 appliances
Hi, I'm not able find anything of interest in google or veritas support docs. We're looking at automation of most of our common sysadmin tasks including upgrading and patching netbackup on clients and media servers using ansible, just a quick question if there's any plans to provide or support a netbackup appliance ansible type module to perform such tasks, also would remote command execution via ansible be supported? Maybe a silly question or one that has been addressed somewhere. Sure more people would be curious if ansible support is on the roadmap for netbackup appliances etc. ? When to used Advanced Disk?
From an academic standpoint, when does it make sense to use Advanced Disk over MSDP? The scenarios I've seen from reading are: 1. Data that is about to get dumped to tape 2. Data that is being kept for a very short life span 3. Data that changes wildly from day to day and does not dedup well Any others? For #3, how much change does there need to be to make it worth it? The non academic part of this question is I'm using two appliances, one intended for a DR role and am looking at utilizing AIR replication between the two sites. However it appears that Advanced disk is not supported by AIR. I'm entertaining the idea of converting ALL of my storage over to MSDP, so can anyone tell me why that's a bad idea?
