Media Tape Library with LTO7 and LTO8
Hello everyone, Recently we purchased a new Tape drive LTO8 and placed it into the Tape Library with an LTO7 drive already in it. I have tested running properly as all the backup jobs we have set are using this Tape Library and with the LTO7. I am planning to setup the backup job task of Monthly backup using this LTO8. So I have changed the Storage from LTO7 with the original media set, into the new Storage, which is the LTO8 and with the Media set named "Monthly Backup LTO8". Besides that, what other procedure that I need to do to make it work that Daily / Weekly backup will be taken place on LTO7, but just the monthly backup on LTO8. Thanks in advance. Hello, i haveto restore an old backup (created with backup exec 10 i guess). For this restore i use Backup Exec 2010 R3 on Server 2008 R2. There are no entries for this backup in the catalog. So i loaded all tapes for this backup (20x LTO4 containing one backup) in my 24-Slot loader and inventorized them. After that i created catalogue jobs for each tape, starting with the first one. After 2 hours and about 800gb data the job on tape 1 failed with the error (translated): V-79-57344-33994 - Data read from media is not consistent. All other tapes failed with the same error. I can browse the data of the first tape and restore some of the items (others have a red cross). All other tapes are not in the catalogue, so i cant browse them. What i tried: * cleaning drive * checking statistic data for all tapes (0 errors) * Under BE Options > catalogue > disabled request all media in a row (translated) * enabled debugging May the first tape be broken? Is there a possibility to check the contents of all other tapes? I'm doing something wrong? I have a Tandberg LTO6 autoloader & BE2012 that I support at one site, and an Overland LTO6 autoloader & BE15 at another. All tapes at both sites are bar-coded. At the Tandberg/BE2012 site, when I rotate previously used, but now overwritable, tapes into the slots and do a Scan from BE, the tapes are shown with their correct labels and are recognized. At the Overland/BE15 site, when I do the same thing, the tapes that I've just loaded show the correct Barcode and Media Label, and all other columns for that matter. But in the Description column, it shows "(Unknown media)". If I inventory those slots, (or just let BE choose those tapes for a backup) the "(Unknown media)" designation goes away. There's no practical difference, so this is really just curiosity, but why are tapes at the Tandberg/BE2012 site recognized correctly, and those at the Overland/BE15 site "unknown" until I inventory or reuse them? Is it an Option setting? Difference between BE2012 and BE15 media management? Autoloader hardware difference?Solved4.2KViews0likes7CommentsUNC storage - the path appears to be an invalid path
I would like to duplicate some backups to a UNC storage. Backup exec 15 gives an error; the path appears to be an invalid path. Logged in as domain administrator at the Backup exec server. We've had an issue with our server due to lack of free space. We've examined the contents of the drive and "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Logs\" is taking up 38GB of space. Can you tell me why it would take up this much space please? More importantly how do i cap it at say 10GB? We are using Backup Exec 2010 R3 on a windows 2007 sbs server. All our backups are backup to disk folders on removable drives and we backup also backup exchange and SQL. Greetings: Perhaps someone could provide an explanation for the following: Weekend backups finished, all jobs duplicated to physical tape from VTL backups. It's time to unload the tapes and take them to the data safe for safekeeping. In order to keep track of things and to keep the boss and the auditors content, I manually select the used tapes and move them to one of the two vault containers I've created under the media tab. I then export the tapes, and place them in the carrier for transport. There are still 5 weeks of overwrite protectionon the tapes that have been vaulted and exported. Why then, when I go to print the vault report have they been changed to scratch tapes? This is most frustrating, not only because I've just sent a number of "scratch" tapes to the off-site storage, but also because it's only an occasional incident. A very annoying occasional incident. Anyone? Anyone? Buhler? Buhler? Thanks, Jim658Views0likes1CommentBackup Exec Server Service Won't Start
My Backup Exec Server service stopped at 10:06 this morning. I try to restart the service using services.msc and I get the following: The Backup Exec Server service on Local Computer Started and the stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs. I get the following in Event Viewer: Event 57802, The Backup Exec Server Service did not start. An internal error (10) occurred in object 13. I looked to see if any updates were installed and I did find SP2 was installed today, 10/23/13. So it seems that this update may have broken something. I did not apply this update nor can it be uninstalled. I have tried changing the service logon to Local System account and the service still would not start. I have also tried repairing the installation with no success starting the service. I appreciate any feedback. P.S. I find it kind of odd that this happened after my support agreement ended a couple of days ago and I renewed the agreement. Coincidence?Solved14KViews1like11CommentsBackup Exec 2014 duplicate backup sets without encryption?
Hi, As above really! We are backing up our servers using BE definedpassphrase (256 bit AES encryption) on our LTO5/6 drives. We are going to start supporting an external company and rather than dedicate separate media sets (And tapes)to this company what we want to do is the following: Setup their jobs to append to our tapes using our current encryption key In the extremely unlikely scenario that they want a copy of their backups I do not want to give them our tapes (Just incase they get into our data). So what I want to do is duplicate their backup sets onto an unencrypted tape. When I select a backup set and select the Duplicate option there is an option about encryption which Symantec mentions can be used to encrypt unencrypted backup sets. It also mentions that if a different encryption key is specified only unencrypted data will be encrypted with this key. So I am wondering if I select no encryption will it simply make an encrypted copy, or will it make an unencrypted copy?Solved1.5KViews0likes4CommentsCatalogue Operation has failed
Hi All I've spent a few hours searching and trying different methods online to try and get our Tape Cataloge process to work. We have some LTO5 Tapes that were used to backup information in Backup Exec 2010. Since these tapes were used we have upgraded to Backup Exec 2012 (service Pack 4). At first I though tthe catalogue process was failing because of this, but further investigation I can see that it is failing on tapes that have only been used in Backup Exec 2012 When trying to cataloge the tapes after an inventory the job is failing and is producing these error messages: Job ended: 04 June 2014 at 20:23:52 Completed status: Failed Final error: 0xe00084b7 - A backup set was created which contains no data. See the job log for details. Final error category: Job Errors For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-33975# Catalog- sanapp2.progressrail.com\WHATSUP Null backupset. Possible reason: Cataloging SW Compressed ArcServe Tape. Backupexec does not support this operation In regards to the above message, we are using Compresson on Hardware using our Dell Powervault TL4000 drive. I have tried following this support article but it makes no difference:http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH142684 I dont have much hair but the little I do have, im slowly starting to pull out. Would appreciate it if anyone could share some information on this. Thanks CraigSolved1.5KViews1like2CommentsVerifying taking much longer that backup ?
I have BE2010 installed on MS Windows 2008 R2. Backing up on SAS hard disk and appropriate 'agents' are enabled and installed. Backup starts at 22:00 and completes without warning.
