I noticed a couple weeks ago that our backup needed a second tape and still the same up to today. It seems to be backing up some of the same resources another time on the the 2nd tape. Today it backed up "System State" and our "Mailbox Database" twice on two separate tapes. Yesterday, it decided to just backup the "Mailbox Database" on the 2nd tape. I've attached the resources that were backed up on both tapes. Thanks for any help I can get. Tony614Views0likes1CommentMoving to Office 365
Backup Exec 2010 R3. We are moving our on-premises Exchange mailboxes to Office 365 and am curious how this might affect Backup Exec. Of course BE will not be able to backup the mailboxes online but if I move the mailbox associated with the Backup Exec logon account to Exchange online will that cause any issues with the backup of the remaining on-premises mailboxes? Unless I am mistaken Backup Exec requires its own Exchange mailbox in order to backup and restoreother mailboxes using GRT. But then again maybe I am mis-reading the artaicle. source: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.v53933085_v113799574Solved2.3KViews0likes2CommentsHDD Failure Windows Server 2008 - Now what?
Hi, We've had a HDD failure (I think) our server will no longer boot. There is no Raid error being displayed, I assume that whatever has happened has damaged both drives at this stage. (there are 3 drives in total) We had Backup Exec 2010 installed - It's been useful a few times recovering damaged or infected files from the Dell cartridges we swap out each night. I'm confident we have a working backup of the entire system on these cartridges. I assume the correct way forward would be to obtain 3 brand new replacement drives, then reinstall the Server OS to it's minimum form, download and install Backup exec 2010 and then do a recovery which should put the snapshot back in place? My problem is two-fold Apparantley we have no recovery media for Windows Server 2008 - The server was supplied by a local council I.T department a few years ago, they are saying media has been supplied, however it doesn't exist - Also I would expect a License sticker/key on the chassis of the server, this doesn't apear to be there either. Assuming I manage to get hold of three replacement drives, and a copy of the media/license - I'm in the same situation for Backup Exec 2010 - Nobody seems to know any information on the license for the software, it is not on the original invoice for the server, the local council are being less than helpful and suggest that we are on our own. I'm not really sure where to go from here - I can't install the OS, or the software - I might be missing something with the recovery procedure and I'm kind of hoping that there is a plan B to get me around this situation - Obviously if the recovery happens I will be able to provide license info for Backup Exec - Maybe I can get the software in Trial mode or something? Suggestions more than welcome Thank you!1.4KViews0likes3CommentsRestoring emails from backup Exec 2010 fails
I have been tasked to recover some emails from an old tape based backup created with Backup Exec 2010. I have spun up a VM of SBS 2003 as this was what the backups were created on. I've set it up with the same domain details as the original server (that no longer exists). I've loaded up backup exec 2010 R3, inventoried and catalogued the tapes. Tested restore of files from drives stored in the backupsand all is fine. Restore completes without issue. Ican see the microsoft exchange mailboxes in question on the backup. One of the mailboxes in the backup has a warning x symbol on it and its status is 'corrupt or contains corrupt items'. All the other mailboxes appear with the status 'normal'. It is one of these 'normal' mailboxes that i want to recover some emails from. I start a restore job, select the emails, Set the settings in backup exec under 'exchange' to automatically recreate user accounts and mailboxes', dismount the database before restore and commit and mount database after restore. I then start the restore. The job then fails with the following error: 'A checksum of the data has failed.' I am wondering if the whole exchange database is corrupt in the backup. My question is, how can i get the exchange database 'out' of the backup, so i can try and run some utilities on it to recover the emails? Many thanks Matthew1.6KViews0likes4CommentsOverwrite Protection and multiple jobs to single tape
G'day All. We have an implementation of BE2010 utilising a single LTO3 drive for daily incremental, and weekly and monthly full backups. We are currently using multiple jobs with different selection lists to capture different data areas for our backups. We have three different media sets for each group of jobs with different overwrite protection periods for each. The daily media set has an overwrite period of 6 Days, the weekly 4 weeks and the monthly 1 year. I'm having some trouble understanding exactly how the overwrite protection periods work. There are some instances where the daily jobs will run one after another, happily writing to the same tape and other instances where after a job the media becomes overwrite protected and subsequent daily jobs fail. Is anyone able to shed some light on why this would be occuring? Also, if someone is able to clarify whether overwrite protection protects an entire tape, or simply the data from a job while allowing appends. I suspect it's the former, but if that's the case i don't understand how multiple jobs can ever run to a single tape with overwrite protection set. I appreciate any assistance given.1KViews0likes3Comments
