NetBackup - what licenses do i need?
Hi. I'm newbie in Veritas, and it seems difficult to understand without any guidance and answers licensing. Need help to calculate necessary licenses to backup environment and compare TCO with Veeam proposal. Long story short: We do have 48 HP blades with approx. 300 Vm's, Alletra Storage with 675 TB formatted space to be backedup, have HP StoreOnce for daily needs backups. We might configure dedicated 1RU servers for backup needs, but how many should be? What would be backup architecture? what license do we need?
How to backup/restore SysVol on a domain controller w Netbackup
How can we backup and restore from the locationC:\Windows\SYSVOL on our domain controllers? In the backup policy we have it set to do a full backup and if you browse the directory structure it shows all the contents of this folder. However, when you try to run a restore from the server it shows this folder as being empty. We have the Netbackup Client Service running on those servers as a local domain admin account. Those servers also have "Netbackup Legacy Client Service" (not sure what the difference is) which is also running with a local domain admin account. I have also tried enabling Granular Recovery and Cross mount points on the backup policy, but still having the same issue. Our Netbackup admin console is ver 8.1.2
Improving Backup Performance
Hi all, I'm currently trying to improve the backup speed performance. I was looking at the backup job's logs, and the bptm process is is waiting thousands of times more than the bpbkar process. Does this mean that the bottleneck is on the client side, and does anyone have any ideas as to how to improve performance if this is the case?

A successful catalog backup is required to protect your data. ============================================= I have read a number of blogs and suggesstions regarding how to get this done by backing up, deleting an re-creacting the database. But, due to the sensitive nature of this production environment I've decided to come here and ask for some good advice. - Master server and media servers are RHEL 6.6 - There is plenty of space in the master server to backup the catalog (70G of space) - I want to run the catalog backup to the master server local storage to take advantage of local fast hdd drive and overall speed - then I can move to resulting file /directorie(s) to another location for safekeeping - Would appreciate if someone could tell me what are the directories that I must target to generate a tarball so I can transfer to another server - backups are completing without any issue (all backups go to a DSU / no tapes) - I have to make sure that I have a successful and full catalog backup before I stop and delete some policies and hosts as they are no longer needed So, - Is there a simple way to address this catalog issue? If so, could someone please provide the steps and/or document with the steps to fix this error. - Could I get away by simply running the "Configure the Catalog Backup" again and creating a new catalog backup file (must include the same info as the existing backup catalog) and run it? Again, apologies for the ask, but this is production and I do not want to do anything to the catalog that would prevent me from restoring it in case of an emergency. backup - allocation failed (10) - but enough memory
hi all, we are experiencing backup failures with error code 10,but we were monitoring memory usage and it was on average level. problem is only with FS /var which has around 2mil. files. UX team says maxdsiz_64bit is at max value. ******** [root]:/var: >kmtune -q maxdsiz_64bit Parameter Current Dyn Planned Module Version ============================================================================== maxdsiz_64bit 4294967296 - 4294967296 Client HP-UX 11.11 64bit virtual has NB version 6.5. Two media servers HP-UX 11.31 64bit physical. From my findingsevery related topic suggest to free up memory we don't know where to move with this. I would appreciate any suggestions. Hi Team I have one query. Today lot of organizations are talking about cloud backup service. If i have infrastructurecreated in cloud itself (AWS instances, Databases etc.,), do i need to deploy enviornment inside cloud as we deploy in on-premise? Cloud offers few native features such as Snapshot mechanims for AWS instances Database availability and consistency Data availability across multiple region. In this scenario, why should i use backup software since they will charge me license cost.
