NetBackup version upgrade involving DD and NBU Appliances
Hello Folks, Greetings for the day. We have many small/large NetBackup environments that we would like to start NetBackup version upgrade on. The NetBackup Master Server is a physical server with either Windows or Linux OS on it. We have environments where we have been using Data Domain for short-term backup and then vault them off to tapes for longer retention. In some of our environments, we also have NBU appliances being used as media servers. Many environments have all devices viz. NBU Master Server (Physical Server), NBU Media Server(Physical Server), Data Domain(Appliance), NBU Appliances, Ops-Center(Virtual Machine) in there together. Could you please guide us the correct sequence which should be followed for Upgrading NBU environment to NBU 7.7.3 ? We know the basic sequence of proceeding with Ops-center first, then NBU Master Servers, then NBU media servers, then clients, but the involvement of appliances has been adding complexities to the whole upgradation process, especially when it requires upgrading 3rd party appliancs like Data Domain. I will be furnishing more details about individual's version but at some point, we have found ourseleves stuck up on whether to upgrade DD first or NBU Master Server first. In our environment, we need to upgrade both, the DDOS and DDboost plungin. EMC has suggested to upgrade DDOS to Version on 5.5.4.10 and ddboost plugin to 3.1.x. The upgrade path is 5.0/5.1 to 5.2 to 5.5.4.10. So we are pretty confused as to go with DD OS / DDBoost plugin upgrade first and then NetBackup upgrade on some other day or all to be performed on the same day? Also, can we ourseleves upgrade the DD OS/DD Boost or EMC TSE needs to perform the same ? The NetBackup Master Server version is little different in all of the environments w.r.t patches installed over and above 7.5 version. Ops-center is Ops-Center Analytics ver 7.6.0.1 on VMware virtual machine running Windows 2012 OSmanaging all of the different Master Backup servers. ======================================================= There are many but to start off with, two of our NBU environments have below configuration:-> NBU Environment 1 Data Domain Model number: DD610 Data Domain OS 5.0.1.0-240411 Master Server NBU version installed: 7.5.0.5 Master Server OS : windows 2008 R2 Current plugin installed:- 2.3.1.0-223945 Media Servers: N/A Tape Library/Robot: N/A Data Domain: Configured as single Disk Pool NBU Environment 2 Model number: DD620 Data Domain OS 5.1.1.0-291218 Master Server NBU version installed: 7.5.0.4 Master Server OS : windows 2008 R2 Current plugin Version: 2.4.1.0-289644 Media Servers: N/A Tape Library/Robot: N/A Data Domain: Configured as single Disk Pool ================================================================== Please let me know if you need any more info from our side.4.1KViews0likes7Commentsbackup - allocation failed (10) - but enough memory

Hi All, Now a days there is lot of buzz about OpenStack cloud. I would like to check how can we deploy Backup infrastrucute in an OpenStack cloud enviornment. One way is like building backup domain (with Master, media, storage and client) in each tenant. 2nd way, putting Master server outisde of each tenant and just - Media, Storage inside tenant to backup tenant VMs as shown in diagram. in this case Tenant VMs have to connect to master server via Media agent and vice versa. Have anyone deployed OpenStack cloud in thier enviornment and which backup software has been deployed. Does Netbackup or any other backup software supports KVM hypervisor to take image level snapshot of VMs?3KViews0likes6CommentsHow to backup/restore SysVol on a domain controller w Netbackup
How can we backup and restore from the locationC:\Windows\SYSVOL on our domain controllers? In the backup policy we have it set to do a full backup and if you browse the directory structure it shows all the contents of this folder. However, when you try to run a restore from the server it shows this folder as being empty. We have the Netbackup Client Service running on those servers as a local domain admin account. Those servers also have "Netbackup Legacy Client Service" (not sure what the difference is) which is also running with a local domain admin account. I have also tried enabling Granular Recovery and Cross mount points on the backup policy, but still having the same issue. Our Netbackup admin console is ver 8.1.22.9KViews0likes4CommentsNetBackup 7.5 Catalog Backup FAILED on host <hostname> status 2
Hello, Hope someone can assist me with this issue I am having: Receiving the following error: ============================= Server <Master_Netbackup_Server_Name> Date Fri 09 Oct 2020 10:15:22 AM UTC Policy Catalog-BKP Catalog Backup Status 2 - none of the requested files were backed up You are strongly urged to correct this problem as soon as possible. A successful catalog backup is required to protect your data. ============================================= I have read a number of blogs and suggesstions regarding how to get this done by backing up, deleting an re-creacting the database. But, due to the sensitive nature of this production environment I've decided to come here and ask for some good advice. - Master server and media servers are RHEL 6.6 - There is plenty of space in the master server to backup the catalog (70G of space) - I want to run the catalog backup to the master server local storage to take advantage of local fast hdd drive and overall speed - then I can move to resulting file /directorie(s) to another location for safekeeping - Would appreciate if someone could tell me what are the directories that I must target to generate a tarball so I can transfer to another server - backups are completing without any issue (all backups go to a DSU / no tapes) - I have to make sure that I have a successful and full catalog backup before I stop and delete some policies and hosts as they are no longer needed So, - Is there a simple way to address this catalog issue? If so, could someone please provide the steps and/or document with the steps to fix this error. - Could I get away by simply running the "Configure the Catalog Backup" again and creating a new catalog backup file (must include the same info as the existing backup catalog) and run it? Again, apologies for the ask, but this is production and I do not want to do anything to the catalog that would prevent me from restoring it in case of an emergency. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Ed2.1KViews0likes6CommentsDelete multiple tapes from NetBackup Media Database and Relabel multiple tapes
Hello All, I know it's a not big issue but would like to know if you guys have any easy option for my two things. 1. We recently destroyed approx 1000 tapes and i am looking out for an option to delete them all at once from NetBackup Media Database. 2. We have also received approx 200 (images expired) tapes from other site. I want to relabel them all at once. Is there any option to do it all together?Solved2.1KViews0likes5CommentsWhy should i use cloud backup solution like AWS..?
Hi Team I have one query. Today lot of organizations are talking about cloud backup service. If i have infrastructurecreated in cloud itself (AWS instances, Databases etc.,), do i need to deploy enviornment inside cloud as we deploy in on-premise? Cloud offers few native features such as Snapshot mechanims for AWS instances Database availability and consistency Data availability across multiple region. In this scenario, why should i use backup software since they will charge me license cost.1.8KViews0likes3Comments1 legacy server remova from policyl - Need To Keep Last Full Backup Data For 1 Year (DSU)
Hello Everyone, My apologies if this question / situation has been posted before. I have looked everywhere, but I am unable to find the post. Issue (RedHat Linux Environment / Netbackup 7.6): I have a policy with 2 hosts (server A and B). - Policy is daily imcrementals with full weekend backup - client B will be decommissioned in a few days - Need to keep the last full backup for 1 year - physical host will be re-purpose for something else Here is what I am planning to do to accomplish above request: - increase retention period to 1 year on last full backup image for "client B" using (bpexpdate) command - stop netbackup on "client B" - remove hostname "client B" from policy X My questions are: - Am I missing anything else - Is it OK to remove hostname "client B" from the policy - How do I restore data using the last backup image, if necesary, now that the physical server is gone Is there anything I am doing wrong where the image backup will become useless? Thank you in advance for any guidance. EdSolved1.2KViews0likes3Comments
