Problem with discovery tool from ssr2011
Hi, I work for a relatively big company(1400 servers) and i'm involved in the upgrade project of our BESR 8.5 architecture (to SSR2011) I installed SSR on a 2008R2 server and tried to start with but I have some problems with discovering computers I want to manage. I need to import from from my AD 10 servers for testing and cannot handle with. Can someone tell me which options I have to select to import precisely those servers? I used the action "import Microsoft active directory " tool then the first option -> import computer resources from "my domain" starting from "_servers" and using default columns mappings(do not understand how this option works seen values I can check) import all computers (with ldap search filter fulfilled with cn=COMPUTERNAME,ou=_servers,ou=xxx etc dc=net and it did import all computers from the OU!!! What can I do???!!! can I delete the content of this discovery from my database (sql 2008)? or rollback to a previous snapshot?) Otherwise I have an other problem some computers have been added automatically. On some of them (6), half are correctly managed and backed up but on others(2008 SP2) I get error messages when I try to force SSR addin install (error code : ) unavailable on the console, need to go on the server directly...) when I try to install manually, destination folder is empty why not) and then I get "internal error 2869.errorDialog" Please help me, Cordially1.7KViews6likes12CommentsSystem Recovery Management Solution 2013
I was just on the MySupport portal to create a new case for SSR2011ms and I noticed System Recovery Management Solution 2013 As on option for product version Is there a new version out? I didn’t here anything about a new version or will it be out soon?603Views6likes3CommentsSSR 2011 offsite copy hangs at 2%, 5%
Hi there, We are currently running SSR 2011 doing backups on 11 HP Proliant ML 350, IBM eSeries, and Dell Poweredge servers to a local LaCie 10TB 5Big Network 2 NAS device with an offsite copy over a 10MB Metro-E fiber link to a duplicate NAS device at a remote branch. 6 of the 11 servers backup locally and offsite fine, the remaining five do not complete the offsite, but do complete the incremental recovery points successfully each day to the local NAS. The partitions vary from multiple logical drives using RAID 5 to a single mirrored partition on each server. It does not appear consistent on similar ML generations with similar partitions/RAID levels. There are multiple discussions that dance around this issue. Beforewe try moving the offsite array local and try to perform the backups during the day, removing the offsite device each night,we want to try one more thread and see if any progress has been made resolving this. A few days ago I had an issue with doing a system restore using Ghost 15. I went to that forum for help and learned that Symantec was going to discontinue Ghost and recommended users "check out" SSR 2013 with its free trial. I downloaded the free trial and eventually learned it would not install unless I first remove Ghost. That wasn't from anything that I saw when the SSR installation failed; that happened without any additional information. However, I did eventually find my way to this forum and a helpful Guru pointed out the issue and also that I could always re-install Ghost if I wasn't happy with SSR. I uninstalled Ghost, installed SSR, and started backing stuff up. Now, if one of the things you want to do is a full system restore (my primary interest)then you need a recovery disk. SSR will make a recovery disk for you and all you need to do is provide an activation key which you don't get with the trial version. No problem, as all I need to do is install Ghost. But I can't install Ghost until I uninstall SSR. And SSR WILL NOT UNINSTALL. Whenever I try to uninstall it there's an Error 2738 and something about a VBasic error. So now I have a trial verision of a program that I can't use and a paid for program I can no longer load. I guess it can all be fixed if I pay Symantec for an activation key for a program that I'm not sure I want in the hopes it will maybe allow me to upgrade to a latter version that can uninstall so I can install the program I uninstalled so I could evaluate the Free Trial. To put it another way, I may have to pay Symantec to I can remove their free software and load back the software I paid them for as well. And, even it it turns out there's a simple, and hopefully less expensive, way out of this I've still wasted a lot of time on what should be a free trial of a comercial product which appears to be more of an alpha test. (If I sound upset, it's because I really am)2.4KViews3likes12CommentsSystem Recovery vs. Backup Exec
We have been using / recommending Backup Exec to our clients and are considering System Recovery instead. I found this in another post about this topic. Is everthing correct? Any other comments? Backupexec 2010 a. File based b. Can backup to tape c. Can restore individual email d. Can do bare metal restore to SAME/SIMILAR hardware e. easy to take tapes offsite BE System Recovery (BESR) a. image based b. cannot backup to tape c. cannot restore individual email (restore whole information store from image file) d. can do Hardware Independent Restore e. can be set to backup incremental every 15 mins with almost no impact on performance f. easily import image to VM in case of total failure (i.e. server room fire)4.1KViews3likes3CommentsAlways failed in backing up to shared network drive in another Server ?
Guys, Why I always get this error in some of the server with BESR 9.0.1 ? Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Backup of C:\, D:\. Error EC8F03ED: Cannot create the recovery point. I am trying to create a Linux 5.7 recovery disk and am getting the error message below: # createSRD --iso=/mnt/backup/rhel-server-5.7-source-dvd.iso -d /mnt/backup/customSRD.iso Creating SRD...Please Wait [ ######################## ] 36% Could not get distribution info from media. Please check the media. This would seem to imply a problem with the iso file but I have tried 2 different iso files and get the same error message. Anyone have any ideas on this one? I'm trying to do something that is dead simple, but frustratingly it's killing me... One little thing, just trying to backup and restore Windows Server 2012 R2 on an Intel i7 PC that's in UEFI mode with GPT partitions on a SATA SSD drive. Symantec System Recovery 2013 SP2 x64 v11.0.2.49853 has no problem going through the paces of restoring the backup, but afterward Windows fails to boot. I even went to the extent of wiping the C drive (and all the partitions), reinstalled WS2012 R2 Data Center GUI (nothing else except a network driver and SSR), backed up freshly installed WS2012 R2 to an external USB drive using SSR installed inside Windows, wiped the C drive (and all the partitions) and restored the backup, but all that effort didn't matter. PC still won't boot Windows. I also tried restoring the 100MB EFI Partition first, followed by the operating system and Recovery partitions, still no help. The only odd thing I see is inside the WinPE SRD, About - Symantec System Recovery Disk shows versions that seem old even though it was just extracted from the latest v11.0.2.49853 download zip file (although the SRD .iso file date of 12/15/13 is older than the SSR SP2 11.0.2 update that supposedly fixed UEFI problems). Do you see anything usual or something that I'm doing wrong? Please help because obviously I am unhealthily obsessed with this problem! ;-) Thanks! Hi there, We've just purchased SSR 2013 for a customer, and when I looked in the User Guide prior to purchase, it said this: "Symantec System Recovery supports Exchange Server 2003 or later, whichimplements VSS technology" on page 292. They are running it on Server 2012 R2, which I now see is supported. However when I look in the Release notes and Software compatibility list, I see no reference to Exchange 2013. Can someone help me out with an up-to-date answer? I can see questions about this topic, but they are a year old. Is Exchange 2013 supported in SP2? I am currently running Ghost 15 on my Win 7 pc. I am replacing my pc with a new computer so it looks like I will have to install System Recovery 2013 Desktop on my new machine (will be win 7 also). A couple of questions: (1) How do I purchase an upgrade version of SSR 2013 since I am really ungrading from Ghost? (2) Does SSR recognize Ghost 15 recovery points? (3) How does the recovery to disparate hardware work? How good is it really; I mean we're talking about the HAL here. What kind of problems can I expect to have if I go that route? Would I have to backup my current machine with SSR which would mean I would have to upgrade from Ghost to SSR 1st and from what I've read it is better to remove Ghost 1st and then install SSR?? Acronis has a similar product for recovery to disparate hw and the results are pretty mixed for it. Works for some and not for others. (4) How does SSR handle Win7 System Reserve partition backup and recovery compared to Ghost. Well that's more than a couple of questions so thanks for your thoughts here.Solved1.8KViews2likes10Comments
