How do I upgrade BE2014 to BE2016?
I currently have BE 14.1 1786.1093 running on WS2012R2. The database is on a separate SQL Server 2012 SE server. Q1. How do I do an in-place upgrade on the WS2012R2 server to BE 16? Q2: I'm currently using USB thumb drives which I daily rotate on BE 14. Will these still work after the upgrade to BE 16? In BE14 the USB disk media description is "(Disk Cartridge)" as a FLDR device. Q3: When the USB disks were first added, they were setup with "Configure Disk", "Disk-based storage", then "Disk cartridge device". Is this still supported in BE 16?1.3KViews0likes4CommentsDuplicate to tape job automatically gets skipped if the source job fails
This is a feature request. This is the scenario; If a backup to disk job fails for any reason whatsoever, even if it's only missing one file or directory, it automatically causes a duplicate to tape job to get skipped and then it requires creating a manual duplicate to tape job for that backup set just to get your data backed up. If you're backing up multi-terabytes worth of information and a backup fails for a single missing directory, I still want/need that data to be duplicated to tape regardless! The software needs to be smart enough to do this because I can't babysit backup jobs that sometimes take four or five days to complete by themselves, not including verification. Even if the job failed entirely, I would still want whatever data that actually was backed up to be duplicated to tape.701Views1like0CommentsJob priorities are not granular enough
This is a feature request. As verified with support, job priorities are all linked at the server level, which is definitely not granular enough for my needs. For example,if you have multiple stages or sub-jobsfor eachserver, such as backup to disk full/incremental based on daily/weekly/monthly schedule, duplicate to disk/tape, or separate verify jobs, you cannot prioritize anything beyond the main server job over other entire server jobs. Theproblem becomes much more apparentwhen you have multi-terabyte jobs that take most of the week to complete. Add on another dozen or so servers that need backed up (some of those comprised of multiple terabytes of data as well) and you have an extremelyfinite backup window and this is where better job priorities would play a huge role. For instance, it would be nice to be able to prioritizelarge verify jobs lower than thesmaller ones since they take much less time to complete, but still have the actual backup to disk job be a higher priority level. Or to be able to prioritize certain full backup to disk jobs in one order, but have a linked duplicate to tape job be a different priority level entirely. I don't think I need to try and recreate all of the different scenarios of why this feature would be beneficial. It seems like this should already be part of the software, but it isn't for some reason.604Views1like0CommentsBE2015 adding Enterprise Option but EO is BE2016
So I'm wanting to add Enterprise Option to BE 2015 for CASO but the link I get form Veritas with my entitlement number takes me to BE2016 Feature Pack 1... My issue is this .. I still have 2003 servers runing AD and this is why I cannot go to BE2016 yet. If I install this option is it going to take me to BE2016... Is there a link to previous version of Enterprise option? Do I just need the SLA key and enter it which "unlocks" the option in BE2015? Thanks in advanceSolved1.9KViews0likes3CommentsMissing Files in Shadow Copy Component
Hi, I hope someone can assist us and that we're not alone in this. We have Win2k12 R2 OSISoft PI Server with version 3.5.X being backed up by BE 2016 through Shadow Copy Component. Backup seems to be successful - no errors, no exceptions, but restore is a different story. Restore of Shadow Copy Components don't restore .exe files located in PI\adm and PI\bin. Seems to me that these files were not backed up by BE to begin with. We would like to get this Server fully backed up while the PI services are running. Hope someone can advice. Thank you.
