BE16: Duplicate, identical media-id on different tapes
Hi, for one backup server I recognized, that there are several tapes, that have an identical Media-ID (German: Medien-ID). Reading up the manuals I can only find statements telling, that it's impossible to modify the Media-ID. The result of this situation is, that these at least three groups of 2 or 3 tapes are the exactly same tape from the point of view of BE16, even though they are physically different tapes. here: Tape "January" and "February" are one "pair-of-identical-IDs", so are "March" and "April", and "June", "July" and "August". Q1: How is ist possible, that this happens at all? Q2: Howto fix the wrong (identical) Media? Q2a: Or if this is not possible with BE16, can I "low level format" with some tool running on Windows 2016 Server Standard, to get rid of these wrong, identical media IDs? We've restored a single VMDK with it's VMX file to the backup media server, uploaded that to the ESX VM host, added it to a powered down server and attempt to power on the server, but get message: "Unsupported or invalid disk type 2 for 'scsi0:2'. Ensure that the disk has been imported." ... "Unable to create virtual SCSI device for 'scsi0:2' " Is there anything special I need to do when requesting the restore to have a usable VMDK file or a step after the restore from tape step? Was running BE16 at the time of restore for this example. Upgrading to 20.3 right now. But I doubt the process changed. Using vSphere web clientVersion 6.5.0.20000 Build 9451637 My goal is to get a file out of a VMDK based backup by attaching restored VMDK to a non-critical server. This has never worked for me, so I'm obviously doing something wrong.1.9KViews0likes4CommentsOrphaned backup files in Dedup Storage folder
Hello Community, I've read through some topics regarding to orphaned .bkf files and how to handle them, but I think my situation is a little bit different and I'd like to ask for some help or guidance where to look further. So we are using a Dedup Storage in order to have more storage space for backups. However we are about to run out of free space so the situation is quite bad. First of all, I started to look up backup sets with old data, but I could not find any relavant information, it seemed OK and I did not understand what is occupying so much space. I went further and started digging in the files. I've found almost 8 TB of data (.BHD and .BIN files) from July 2017 (D:\BackupExecDeduplicationStorageFolder\data) as well as some PostgreSQL log files (D:\BackupExecDeduplicationStorageFolder\log\pddb). Okay, that's a huge amount of data. So I've headed back to Backup Exec admin console and started to look for backups from 2017. I've checked the Job History and I found a very few backups from November 2017 but still no backup which might contain old backup sets from July. I also checked Backup Calendar, maybe that helps me. Nope. Same as Job History. What I would like to know: Am I missing something and looking for old data at the wrong place? How do I know which backup set created those old files? If I have more information about those files, can I safely remove them manually? If have no more information, what could be the worst case if I remove those files manually? Hopefully I've provided enough useful information. If not, I'm happy to help further in order to resolve this case. Thanks, CsabaSolved2.4KViews0likes3Commentsreplication of hyper-v server
Hello, I have 2 server that are hosting number of virtual machine using Hyper-V. I want to replicate number of this hyper-v server to a third host, so that in case of host failure I could immediately put this crucial hyper-v servers online from this third server. how do I do this using BE16? what will be the time deference between the replica? and what will be the minimum time that I could replicate? how demanding will it be on the production server I/O the replication process ? Hello, We have encrypted our VM thru the VM encryption module provided by VMWare since 6.5 version. As it is not supported by BE 16, we are doing now file level backup. Is there some news regarding an update of BE 16 that will allow block level backup with encrypted VM ?1.3KViews0likes1Comment
