Can I upgrade from BESR 2010 9.0.2.37914 to BESR 2013 R2 11.1.2.54477??
This is for Symantec System Protection aka Backup Exec System Recovery... We are presently on a 2010 version, I don't know which SP... And I want to upgrade it to System Protection 2013 SP2... It is a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 64-bit server. Thank you, TomSolved1.4KViews11likes4CommentsBabysitting BESR 2010 clients and issues
I really like the BESR 2010 product...except for one thing. It seems I have to "babysit" more clients then I would like to. By this I mean, I log on almost daily to my Management Console to make sure everything is going ok. But everytime there is a handful of clients that for whatever reasons have skipped/missed backups for several days or are stuck doing a backup. Normally I have to reboot the PCs or clear out the *.PQJ and *.PQH files and start a new base recovery point. I've been all over these forums and on search engines looking for reasons why these things are happening and there's no real concrete answers. I manage 300 PCs and doing this extra work to maintain the backups is stretching my time really thin. Is there an update with fixes coming soon? These are my main issues: - skipped/missed backups, clients look fine (green check box in system tray icon). I can tell they missed because in the Manage Tasks, Computers view in the Console it shows last time run as several days ago - misreporting of the "Last Run" date when you open the client. The one on my PC says my last backup ran was 42 days ago, but in my backup history it shows backups successfully completed every day - backups hanging at 95% or even at other points. No future backups will run because they think it's stll not completed. Must reboot PCs and/or delete PQJ/PGH files Again this happens on a handful of PCs usually and they seem to randomly happen. Different PCs, different dates, etc. I've posted about some of these issues before and gotten nothing really except a link to this: " http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/352307.htm " That page might explain some of my issues, but there doesn't seem to be any progress on that. Anyone else experiencing any/all of these issues? I'm using version 9.0.1.365272.2KViews4likes58CommentsBESRM 2010 losing clients and/or policy assignments
I am running BESR 2010 with around 200 clients. Yesterday when viewing them in the BESRM, about 120 of them went from the staus of installed with a working backup policy assigned to clients showing up as not installed and no policies or the clients just don't show up at all in the computer list. I check physically on the machines and the BESR 2010 software is still installed, but will say in trial mode (since license policy isn't being applied) with no backup jobs. The only thing I did yesterday was delete some old backup destinations. I followed the instructions in this knowledge base article: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH153587&key=53845&actp=LIST Unfortunately it looks like this procedure suggested by Symantec deletes clients or the relationship between them and the BESRM. Now I have a bunch of PCs that aren't reporting it or think they are not installed and are not running their backups. Outside of restoring back to the previous day's image for the BESR server, how do I fix this? So far I've been able to get some PCs back by restarting the Altiris Agent and BESR services and reseting the agent via the Altiris Agent Task Status tab. I've then had to go back into the policies I've created and re-add the clients to the right ones. This is a lot of work to re-do 100+ clients this way. Ultimately I have a feeling that I will have to do this for each client and that the removal of the backup destination associations procedure I did was the cause. If so, then what is a safer way of removing backup destinations?456Views3likes5CommentsAlways failed in backing up to shared network drive in another Server ?

Hello Experts, I'm not sure how come my windows server restored from BESR 2010 always rebooting infinitely ? this is the error message 'A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. .....",it happens so fast and i couldn't write down the error message. as soon as I logged in before displaying the desktop it always restart, the problem still occuring even on SAFE MODE. The background is that I tired to restore Windows Server 2003 Std. Ed R2 into older server hardware for disaster recovery purpose and it is confirmed that BESR 2010 doesn't work well with restoring old Windows Server 2003 into old HP server DL380 G5 into G3.Solved576Views3likes4CommentsOne time conversion to vmdk will not boot
I have taken a cold backup using system recovery 2010 of a windows 7 x64 PC I then wanted to convert the image to a vmdk to open in Vmware workstation 7 I ran the one time conversion and I now have a vmdk all good so far. Next I opened vmware workstation 7 and started to create a new vm as I went through the wizard it asked me to select an existing vmdk so I selected the one I created. After the vm was created I powered up the vm but it does not boot it gets passed the BIOS screen then I just get a black screen. Any thoughts?374Views3likes4CommentsKerberos error occurs when starting BESR 2010
After moving a server to another domain, each time BESR 2010 ( VProConsole)is opened an error occurs in the WIndows SYSTEM event log. Error Code: 0x7 KDC_ERR_S_PRINCIPAL_UNKNOWN . Server Realm: PCN1.LOCAL Server Name: krbtgt/PCN1.LOCAL Target Name: host/pcnebr.dcn@PCN1.LOCAL PCN1.LOCAL is the previous domain name. I notice that right before the KERBEROS error, an entry in the Windows system log for Virtual Disk Service - Service started occurs. Also, immediately after the kerberos error, Virtual Disk Service - service stopped gets logged. I notice in the BESR Logs, a VProUtils.GetDiskSpace entry to a UNC on the previous Backup location on the previous domain. I have removed all the *.PQ files and *.PGH files. I can not figure out why this computer's BESR is still trying to accesss a previous Backup location.378Views2likes2CommentsBackups Failing - Cannot create recovery points for job
Hi, 1st post. We have recently installed Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 Management Console. We have deployed the Altiris Agent and the Backup Exec 2010 Plug in. We have a mixture of Server 2000/2003/2008R2 servers running BESR 8/8.5 and 2010. There are a group of servers that will not back up, the message they receive is as below (taken from Event Log) Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Fraserburgh Macrae. Error E7D1001F: Unable to write to file. Error EBAB03F1: The specified network name is no longer available. Error E7D10046: Unable to set file size. Error EBAB03F1: The specified network name is no longer available. (UMI:V-281-3215-6071) Details: Source: Backup Exec System Recovery We are backing up across the LAN to a brand new NAS box. Permissions are correct and I can copy backup files between the server and NAS and the other way too. I have also amended the \\server\share to \\ipaddress\share to no avail. I have tried the articles listed via Google but am still at a loss as to what to do. If you are able to help that would be excellent as I have been struggling with Symantec Support for about 6 weeks for various issues with regards this installation. Cheers.Solved2.7KViews2likes7Comments
