Flex Appliance Sizing
Hi Guys, I'm new to Netbackup products, even more so to its Appliances. We've received a new Flex 5260 appliance, which we're going to configure. Before starting the configuration, we're consulting the Veritas documentation to better understand how the device works. For a first review, two questions come to mind: Size of the application instances volumes : In our Appliance, we'll create two instances, one Primary and one MediaServer (MSDP); How can we get NBU recommendations regarding volumes sizes ? (Primary Catalog, MSDP, AdvDisk, Staging ... Etc). In the configuration of a new MediaServer instance, we came across the following volumes : MSDP, AdvancedDisk, Staging. And since we are going to use Dedup, then automatically we'll create an MSDP volume. In this case, should we set AdvancedDisk and Staging to 0 GB ? What is the purpose of the "Staging volume" ? Is there any sort of Sizing Tool provided by Veritas for this purpose ? To get the right requirements for each component depending on the environment to be backed up (Number of clients, FET, BET ...etc.) Thanks in advance for any provided guidance. Hello Community, Quick question: Has anyone successfully configured NetBackup hot catalog backup DR email notifications using PowerShell's Send-MailMessage cmdlet or any related commands, instead of relying on BLAT to send emails on Windows? I'm looking to transition from BLAT to utilizing PowerShell's native Send-MailMessage functionality.Solved155Views0likes1CommentNetBackup Catalog Recover
Hello, I am trying to recover a NetBacukp catalog from an old server on a new one with another OS but same name and different IP address. I get the following error, when I chose the NetBackup Catalog Recovery Wizard right after successful installation of NetBackup 8.2 to a Windows Server 2016 virtual machine. The output of the log D:\Veritas\NetBackup\logs\user_ops\SERVERNAME\Administrator\logs is only 2 bytes in size. Any idea?3.4KViews0likes20CommentsNetbackup Catalog Backup - Where to Store
We currently have Netbackup 8.2 Environment with 1 Master (W2k16 / Virtual Machine (VMWare) + 2 Media Servers (W2k16, Physicals) & Data Domain as primary disk storage target via OST. We have our Catalog backup policy configured to store via UNC Path on one of the Media Servers (Weekly Full + Daily Diffs w/a 2 Week Retention). We recently suffered a hardware failure on the physical media server that was storing the Catalog Backup. I'm thinking this is an opportunity for improvement of where to store catalog backup it for easy retrieval/recovery when needed. One thought I had was to add a new VMDK to master server since it's a VM that way the VMDK can be easily attached to any machine and accessed in the event of a failure and not be prone to another hardware issue on the media server plus the disk can be easily grown to accommodate catalog growth. Thoughts? What are others doing? Thanks in advance.Solved3.4KViews0likes10CommentsNetBackup 7.5 Catalog Backup FAILED on host <hostname> status 2
Hello, Hope someone can assist me with this issue I am having: Receiving the following error: ============================= Server <Master_Netbackup_Server_Name> Date Fri 09 Oct 2020 10:15:22 AM UTC Policy Catalog-BKP Catalog Backup Status 2 - none of the requested files were backed up You are strongly urged to correct this problem as soon as possible. A successful catalog backup is required to protect your data. ============================================= I have read a number of blogs and suggesstions regarding how to get this done by backing up, deleting an re-creacting the database. But, due to the sensitive nature of this production environment I've decided to come here and ask for some good advice. - Master server and media servers are RHEL 6.6 - There is plenty of space in the master server to backup the catalog (70G of space) - I want to run the catalog backup to the master server local storage to take advantage of local fast hdd drive and overall speed - then I can move to resulting file /directorie(s) to another location for safekeeping - Would appreciate if someone could tell me what are the directories that I must target to generate a tarball so I can transfer to another server - backups are completing without any issue (all backups go to a DSU / no tapes) - I have to make sure that I have a successful and full catalog backup before I stop and delete some policies and hosts as they are no longer needed So, - Is there a simple way to address this catalog issue? If so, could someone please provide the steps and/or document with the steps to fix this error. - Could I get away by simply running the "Configure the Catalog Backup" again and creating a new catalog backup file (must include the same info as the existing backup catalog) and run it? Again, apologies for the ask, but this is production and I do not want to do anything to the catalog that would prevent me from restoring it in case of an emergency. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Ed2.2KViews0likes6CommentsNetbackup Catalog Merging
Hi everybody, Can we merge a catalog with other, using same NetBackup version (8.0)? Our previous enviroment was a clustered Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 running as Master Servers and a couple of physical servers running as Media Servers... On our previous enviroment we lost our access to the GUI and some command line weren't work as well, so we had to rise another enviroment with a new Master Server (Windows 2012 R2, not clustered), connecting to the our Media Servers, but we were not abble to restore the catalog... So we're willing to know if there is a way to merge our old catalog with our new one.4.4KViews0likes14Comments
