Slow Windows file server cluster backup performance
Dear community, We are using NetBackup version 9.1.0.1 and were previously backing up two physical HP servers running Windows Server 2008 R2 shared data volumes without any issue. We have then migrated to two virtual nodes running Windows Server 2019 under VMware and backup performance is total chaos. Backing up 2GB of data takes 2 hours! We're using VSS and the NetBackup agent is installed on both virtual nodes, since backing them up using VMware native capabilities is not possible because we're using bus sharing (RDM disks). We have already opened a case with Veritas but the support agent is totally lost in the troubleshooting process. Do you have any ideas as to why this is happening and if we're doing things in the right way? I can share additional configuration data or logs if that helps! Thanks a lot and have a lovely week!698Views0likes1CommentClusdb File on Windows 2008 Microsoft Cluster
Hello, This week we are doing some tests with microsoft regarding Backup & Restore of Microsoft Clustered environment. I installed netbackup 7.6.0.1 Client on the servers (with windows cluster 2008) And we see that during the backup the CLUSDB file is being skipped. HHere is output from Diskshadow Exclude list: technote :http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH76997 WRITER "Cluster Database" - Writer ID = {41e12264-35d8-479b-8e5c- 9b23d1dad37e} - Writer instance ID = {46a75fd5-5b3b-4e8c-a140- 189419c23b13} - Supports restore events = TRUE - Writer restore conditions = VSS_WRE_ALWAYS - Restore method = VSS_RME_RESTORE_STOP_START - Requires reboot after restore = FALSE - Excluded files: + Component "Cluster Database:\Cluster Database" - Name: Cluster Database - Logical path: - Full path: \Cluster Database - Caption: ClusterDatabase - Type: VSS_CT_FILEGROUP [2] - Is selectable: TRUE - Is top level: TRUE - Notify on backup complete: FALSE - Components: - File List: Path = C:\Windows\cluster\, Filespec = CLUSDB - Paths affected by this component: - C:\Windows\cluster\ - Volumes affected by this component: - \\?\Volume{9b236815-75eb-11e3- 8eed-806e6f6e6963}\ [C:\] - Component Dependencies: Info From bpbkar While doing a backup: 10:46:14 BKR - C:\Windows\Cluster\ 10:46:14 INF - Filtered 'BEDS Exclude' Object: C:\Windows\Cluster\CLUSDB <- you can see the file was excluded when excplictly telling netbackup do d C: \ SystemStaete' \ Shadowcopycomponent backup. Question is : Why its in the Exclude list of the cluster vss, How should I do a GOOD backup of microsoft cluster if netbackup dosent do a backup of this file. BTW: ntbackup of microsoft is able to backup clusdb file.Solved2.9KViews1like10CommentsAnyone had luck using the CPF1_POLICY parameter with RMAN?
Here is the scenario that I am attempting. I have an Oracle RAC 11g cluster running on Linux and using NB 7.0 client NB 6.5 Server. I have the same environment duplicated at a remote site. I am backing up my database to Oracle's FRA ("Fast Recovery Area" Disk location in ASM). I then run a backup to tape using RMAN and NB. I would like to use RMAN's duplex capability to write to two different media servers simultaneously. An Oracle document suggested using the CPF{N}_POLICY and CPF{N}_SCHED parameters in the RMAN script. I have tried this. RMAN is making two copies of the backup and I get I can write to both media servers but in most cases the backup copies are being written to the same server rather than the alternate. Here is my RMAN script: run { ALLOCATE CHANNEL s1 DEVICE TYPE SBT PARMS 'ENV=(NB_ORA_SERV=bka-01, NB_ORA_CLIENT=oracle-server, CPF1_POLICY=OraDBDefaultApp, CPF1_SCHED=OracleLevel0)'; ALLOCATE CHANNEL s2 DEVICE TYPE SBT PARMS 'ENV=(NB_ORA_SERV=bka-01, NB_ORA_CLIENT=oracle-server, CPF1_POLICY=OraDBDefaultApp, CPF1_SCHED=OracleLevel0)'; ALLOCATE CHANNEL s3 DEVICE TYPE SBT PARMS 'ENV=(NB_ORA_SERV=bka-01.site2, NB_ORA_CLIENT=oracle-server, CPF2_POLICY=OraDBDefaultApp, CPF2_SCHED=OracleLevel0)'; ALLOCATE CHANNEL s4 DEVICE TYPE SBT PARMS 'ENV=(NB_ORA_SERV=bka-01.site2, NB_ORA_CLIENT=oracle-server, CPF2_POLICY=OraDBDefaultApp, CPF2_SCHED=OracleLevel0)'; BACKUP COPIES 2 BACKUPSET ALL; } Thanks Brian708Views0likes2CommentsNetbackup Synthetic Full backups
Hello All, One small and good question, I am planning for Synthetic backups, I know the process how it works but one thing I am unable to understand is as Synthetic backup is nothing to do with the client, For example sunday regular full backup then mon-fri Incrementals, Do I need to have all these backup medias in the library for synthetic backups.? Because we usually send medias offsite next day of the backup. Thanks NasserSolved2KViews1like5Comments
